Lately, Newt has shown Rino colors. Also, the terrible manner in which he jettisoned a cancer-stricken wife will kill him in any election.

It just will, and anyone who thinks not is ignoring how vicious that a presidential election becomes.

Newt’s been good on shaking up the state department bureaucracy, and knows enough history to take foreign policy beyond the deal du jour. Sure, he’s not a pure conservative on domestic issues, but he’s got no love for American declinists here or abroad. We don’t have enough Reagans walking around to staff a govt now, so we have to work with what’s available. Just a thought.

I love Sarah and think she would make a great President. Sometimes, though, I wish she’d stop talking about two sentences before she does. Like when she just used the word “refutiate” on Hannity.

There’s “refute” and “repudiate”, but I’ve never heard “refutiate”.

Michelle Bachman does that from time to time as well. I find it charming since the resulting construction is a wonderful and apt neologism.

Bolton’d be fine by me...this just happened to be a thread about Newt.

I’d take Palin over Newt too, but we could do a lot worse than Gingrich, huh?

He’s a schemer, but I think he means well and is patriotic.

He’s brilliant, but I think his root problem is that he runs with the wrong crowd — they put moderate/calculating gibberish in his ear.

If Sarah Palin wins the presidency in 2012 it will be the biggest thrill for me. I have a stack of firecrackers sitting around for just an occasion to let my neighbors know how I feel.

But I have observed politics in this country for 5 decades and have a good feel who can and who can not defeat Obama in 2012.

I am a realist before I am an ideologue. But you are entitled to your opinion.

'Well THAT should bring in the votes!'

Ha - my wife and I were walking on the treadmills at the local rec center this evening. They just held the Alabama runoff election and a polling place was in the gym. I told my wife that I could print out campaign posters on the laser printer with the slogan, "Why me? Because I'm not the other guy!", nail them to every other telephone pole in town when an election rolls around, and sooner or later, someone is gonna elect me to something. It might be the neighborhood cat herder, but you can bet people would eventually shrug and think, "Why not?".

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

Agreed,

Palin is NOT a viable candidate and it was proven in the last election. Gingrich is a very weak candidate due to his scandalous personal life.

The GOP needs to find some fresh faces for 2012.

We’ve got about a year before the Presidential race starts in earnest. A lot can happen in a year.

Agreed 2 years and 3 months is eternity in politics.

Not that it matters but I have predicted every presidential winner since JFK in 1960 when I was a freshly arrived foreign student in U of Iowa. I predicted Johnson, Nixon wins and Ford loss. I predicted Carter would lose, and Clinton would defeat Bush41. Obama beating McCain was so obvious. One was fresh, youthful, tall, and cool. Other was a pudgy short balding man with maverick qualities and even many republicans were not excited by him.

As soon as the republican nominee is decided, I will post my prediction right here.
