Losing Streisand?
NRO ^ | 07/07/2010 | Jonah Goldberg

Lloyd Grove at the DB writing from the Aspen Ideas thingamajig where Obama's economic policies are apparently being lambasted by Niall Ferguson and Mort Zuckerman:

“We are, without question, in a period of decline, particularly in the business world,” Zuckerman said. “The real problem we have…are some of the worst economic policies in place today that, in my judgment, go directly against the long-term interests of this country.”

Zuckerman added that he detects in the Obama White House “hostility to the very kinds of [business] culture that have made this the great country that it is and was. I think we have to find some way of dealing with that or else we will do great damage to this country with a public policy that could ruin everything.

-snip-

Ferguson called for what he called “radical” measures. “I can’t emphasize strongly enough the need for radical fiscal reform to restore the incentives for work and remove the incentives for idleness.” He praised “really radical reform of the sort that, for example, Paul Ryan [the ranking Republican on the House Budget Committee] has outlined in his wonderful ‘Roadmap’ for radical, root-and-branch reform not only of the tax system but of the entitlement system” and “unleash entrepreneurial innovation.” Otherwise, Ferguson warned: “Do you want to be a kind of implicit part of the European Union? I’d advise you against it.”

This was greeted by hearty applause from a crowd that included Barbra Streisand and her husband James Brolin. “Depressing, but fantastic,” Streisand told me afterward, rendering her verdict on the session. “So exciting. Wonderful!”

Brolin’s assessment: “Mind-blowing.”

Hysterical.

Of course, there's an incredibly likely possiblity that Streisand has NO IDEA who Paul Ryan is, and if she did, she probably wouldn't be cheering, irrespective of how much practical sense Ryan makes.

She just honed in on the word “radical” and assumed it meant her world view.

Considering that Streisand is the baseline from which all intelligence should be measured, who gives a smelly Obama what comes from her one-celled brain?

Yeah, well when Obama runs in 2012, we’ll see who Streisand and Brolin throw fundraisers for.

Can’t tell you how convinced I am that it’s going to be someone we support. /s

Or, Streisand suddenly realizes that as a fabulously wealthy person she is a top target to pay for Obamanomics.

Giving her the benefit of the doubt, she is more American than Obama.

She was talking about the buffet.

Maybe she sees that as one not in the same league as Warren Buffet, her wealth is subject to plunder.

Album and concert sales must be down. America: Bad! Money: Good.

Maybe she is just too dumb to know that the hell the speaker was really talking about.

Maybe wealthy liberals looked in the dressing room mirror and saw a target painted on their backs................

I really liked Jonah Goldberg's assessment of this over at The Corner

" Alas, I've always gotten the impression that a faint breeze would be mind-blowing for Brolin, but still. Interesting."

Mrs. Brolin has actually been to wrapped up in carefully annotating her forthcoming critical edition of the Complete Dramatic Works of William Shakespeare, so she may not be up on the details of this Paul Ryan fellow’s background.

Barbra Streisand is been and probably always will be a Clinton supporter. She may raise money for Obama but her heart and soul are devoted to Bill.

She probably thinks he has the other triangle.

“Yeah, well when Obama runs in 2012, we’ll see who Streisand and Brolin throw fundraisers for.”

We know who they (the fanatics) will support in 2012.

But, hopefully we can get enough of the non fanatics who voted for O, but know see the huge mistake they made.

I have heard many people express alarm at an overreaching government.

No they’re not losing Streisand. She just simply had no idea what anyone was talking about.

I am considering another take. What the Republicans usually advocate is a crappy Democrat-lite. I often wonder that anybody can actually get behind them. If people are presented with the exciting radical truth their eyes might just be opened. that is if they are not totally evil. ABout all the GOP ever offers is let’s just cut the rate of growth and cut taxes. Who can get excited.
Give people a PRINCIPLED vision that doesn’t pull any punches and we jsut might save the country.
