Report: Insubordinate McChrystal Called Back to Washington for White House Meeting
Tuesday, June 22, 2010 | Kristinn

Posted on 06/22/2010 4:07:18 AM PDT by kristinn

NBC News' Savannah Guthrie reports this morning that Gen. Stanley McChrystal is being called to Washington for a meeting at the White House tomorrow in the wake of a Rolling Stone article that has exposed McChrystal and his staff as mockingly disrespectful of their civilian overseers, including their commander-in-chief President Barack Obama.

Guthrie posted at Twitter:

McChrystal has been ordered to the Sit Rom tomorrow to explain his stmts criticizing admin officials to Rolling Stone to POTUS in person 15 minutes ago via UberTwitter

Guthrie added: "McChrystal has been calling around town apologizing to officials."

The Atlantic reported late last night that McChrystal had been called by numerous top officials last night:

Within hours after today's Rolling Stone story broke, McChrystal was called by the White House, the Secretary of Defense, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. They were not happy.

The Atlantic also notes that McChrystal never completely had the trust of the Obama administration:

Even though McChrystal voted for Obama and told him so during their first meeting, he sensed that a number of senior White House aides didn't really believe that the former commander of the military's special missions unit during the Bush-Cheney years was suddenly on their side. National Security Adviser James Jones, who is a bit of cipher to McChrystal's team, may or may not have been one of these aides. No one in the West Wing bought all that liberal internet chatter about JSOC's alleged crimes -- but no one really didn't buy it, either.

“Frankly, as much as I hate O, these comments from McChrystal are unacceptable. Always have been, and hopefully, always will be.”

Yup. And if obama orders our troops to round up Christians and conservatives and send them to camps, any dissent likewise would be “unacceptable” and “always will be.” Right? Because, of course, our military’s highest oath is to the person holding the office of President. Not to some old piece of paper writtent by a bunch of dead white guys.

I recommend we cut General McChrystal some slack. We haven’t heard from him; only people who could arguably be called his enemies. I think it’s unlikely he said anything unfortunate during an interview with The Rolling Stone or anybody else. He also most likely had the interview tapped and can produce that tape.

In light of his subsequent, groveling apologies, there is no way to avoid wondering whether McChrystal was drunk when he gave the Rolling Stone interview. If he wasn’t drunk, then he appears not to know the difference between a General giving an interview to a magazine and a PFC bitching at a local bar.

McChrystal should have resigned and said his piece or shut up and focused on the war.

Does anyone give a damn about the young men who are dying and being mutilated for this nation? There is no evidence that Obama or any of his minions give a damn, and now it is hard to believe McChrystal gives a damn.

Does anyone give a damn about defeating radical Islam?

We appear to be up s____ creek without a boat or paddle.

This is odd. Someone in the military is telling the press it was McChrystal's decision to go to Washington.

From The Washington Post:

Lt. Col. Joseph Breasseale, a U.S. military spokesman, said McChrystal called Biden and other senior administration officials Tuesday morning in reference to the article. "After these discussions, he decided to travel to the U.S. for a meeting," the spokesman said in an e-mail.

"to undermine everything he was given 18 months to do has seen soldiers under his command DIE to do."

Of course, that's not really important. What's important (according to some Freepers up thread) is that he doesn't appear to be insubordinate. Screw those troops and screw the Constitution. He must OBEY!

It’s obvious we need a Czar over the military, a committee, a commission, a study by leading academic experts, a round-table, a blue-ribbon panel, and a speech.

Given the credibility of the media, who knows what reports to believe?

First, I thought Academy grads were smarter than this. Anyone naive enough to trust a media outlet needs to be reassessed, IMO. Even giving them a glimpse of his real feelings was a bad move. He should be relieved of command or allowed to retire soon.

We are a military family and wife and I don’t feel comfortable allowing anyone to hear anything other than “We have the utmost respect for the office of the President”.

The Generals still have a responsibility to speak up when things are wrong, and to take care of their troops. You always have a right to voice your concerns, I see no problem in this. Our troops are being fed into the meat grinder known as the politically correct war of Ashtrashistan because of this administration. It’s about time someone stands up and does something.

I understand your position and generally agree with you.

Do you have any problem with retired Gen. Paul Vallely saying we need to pressure Obama to resign before we lose all our allies?

I was all for McCrystall until I found out he voted for Obama.

He is tainted goods in my eyes.

This is the reason the country is dead meat. People are not allowed to speak truth to power.

Americans, cower in fear and prepare to turn your childrens futures over to Obama, a Kenyan and a communist.

Our kids will despise us in the future.

Whose rules of engagement are being followed in Afghanistan? That would be Obama's. McChrystal could tell Obama to change the damn thing and support a winnable stategy, or he would resign and tell the whole damn world what is going on. Put Obama in a box.

Some would consider it lucky to get fired from Obama and get out of that hell hole he’s mismanaging.

"Our kids will despise us in the future."

Take the children and yourself
and hide out in the cellar.
By now the fighting will be close at hand.
Don't believe the church and state
And everything they tell you;
Believe in me, I'm with the High Command.

Can you hear me,
can you hear me running?
Can you hear me running,
can you hear me calling you?
Can you hear me,
can you hear me running?
Can you hear me running,
can you hear me calling you?

There's a gun and ammunition
just inside the doorway;
Use it only in emergency.
Better you should pray to God,
The Father and the Spirit,
Will guide you and protect from up here.

Can you hear me,
can you hear me running?
Can you hear me running,
can you hear me calling you?
Can you hear me,
can you hear me running?
Can you hear me running,
can you hear me calling you?

Swear allegiance to the flag,
Whatever flag they offer;
Never hint at what you really feel.
Teach the children quietly,
For someday sons and daughters
Will rise up and fight while we stood still.

Can you hear me,
can you hear me running?
Can you hear me running,
can you hear me calling you?
Can you hear me,
can you hear me running?
Can you hear me running,
can you hear me calling you?

Silent Running

If true, this may be a showdown....and if it is, then the number one question is, “What do the Colonels think?”

CNN reports McChrystal has fired a press aide over the article:

[Updated 7:50 a.m.] Gen. Stanley McChrystal has fired a press aide because of a Rolling Stone article in which McChrystal was portrayed as critical of Obama administration officials, two defense officials tell CNN.

Of course a real military man won’t respect obama and there is nothing more worthless than a liberal flag officer.
