Picking cotton is a miserable job isn’t it? You’ve got to be a little out of your mind to do it. Hot, sweaty back breaking work with your hands and arms being sliced and diced by those hard boles.
Actually the saying is, he is in high cotton, meaning a good crop and therefore money.
Some guys actually were charged with a hate crime for spreading cotton balls on the lawn of some perpetually aggrieved student center.
That was at Mizzou and I think criminally they got of with “litterin” but the University hadn’t yet decided what to do with them.
