Tongue firmly in cheek, Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) on Tuesday afternoon called on reporters to demand to see the birth certificate of new Rep. Charles Djou (R-Hawaii).
As Djou (pictured here) was being sworn into office, Frank walked the hallway of the Speaker's Lobby off the House floor calling on the media to "do your job" and review Djou's papers.
It was a small bit of payback for the enormous amount of attention some conservatives (and the media) paid to the is-the-president-really-from-America controversy.

Unfortunately, Djou was born in California. I was hoping the same thing until I checked.
Djou should hold a press conference, and have poster sized copes of both his long-form birth certificate and COLB, and explain the difference to the press, just so he can make things "perfectly clear".
Djou should show it and then tell Franks the ball is in your court fat-a$$!

I had to replace my Texas Driver's License recently. Just to show others that COLB is NOT the same as a birth certificate (and does NOT necessarily mean US born) I offer this:
Identification Requirements for a Texas Driver License or Identification Certificate
Every original applicant must present:* one piece of primary identification; or
* one piece of secondary identification plus two pieces of support identification; or
* two pieces of secondary identification.
SECONDARY (includes):
Original or certified copy of a birth certificate issued by the appropriate State Bureau of Vital Statistics or equivalent agency. (U.S. Territory or the District of Columbia or Canadian province).
Original or certified copy of United States Department of State Certification of Birth (issued to United States citizens born abroad) (Form FS-240. DS-1350, or FS-545).
Original or certified copy of court order with name and date of birth (DOB) indicating an official change of name and/or gender from a US state, US Territory or the District of Columbia or Canadian province.
Don’t show it and ask Franks to sponser a bill that the state of Hawaii open it’s files on all elected officials records.

If the Republicans screw this one up, Steele should resign immediately and let someone with some sand replace him.
Best of all, Frank has made a real weenie of himself with his making light of an issue that they’ve done their absolute best to bury.
He can still produce a legitimate long-form birth certificate. Does CA also have COLB's, similar to HA? This would be a perfect opportunity to explain the difference.

There is an account (unconfirmed even by Alan Keyes) that in the campaign debate for the Senate seat Obama would eventually win, Barack Obama claimed it didn’t matter that/if he was not born in this country as he was not seeking the White House.
A number of people swear they heard him say this on C-Span
but the tape to date has not been found.
Alan sez he doesn’t remember but others swear they saw the words spoken backstage after the debate ........

I don’t know where Djou was born, but there is no requirement that any US official but the President be a natural citizen.
Someone should point out to Frank that there are specifically different requirements under the Constitution for eligibility between the Congress and the Presidency and then ask him why he thinks that is. If all you had to be was a naturalized American citizen in order to be President then why didn’t the Framers just give one requirement for all offices? The fact is they specified a ‘natural born’ citizen for a reason.
Mine are in an old tin lock box that I bought for important family papers the first year I was married (51 years ago). The problem is that through many, many moves and banging around, the lock has become distorted, and I can no longer open it. So, someone please hand me a hammer, and I’ll produce my papers to all who ask. Mine include a hospital certif. and a long form birth certif. with the name of the doctor, name of the hospital, parents’ names, nurses’ names, etc. Betcha Obama can’t do that.

I think it’s total stupidity on his part, because it gives Djou a fantastic opening.
I think it does show that this issue is on the minds of people in Washington though. They all know Obama is ineligible, and what they’re mocking is the fact that the rule of law is beyond the reach of the American public to enforce. They’re holding the ball above their heads and laughing in our faces because we can’t reach that far.
I posted a comment explaining that the HDOH has actually now twice confirmed that Obama’s Factcheck COLB is a forgery. We’ll see if the administrators at “The Hill” will allow my post - now that they’ve allowed 5 or 6 spam comments by “Barrack H Obama” that give no facts.
But there is a requirement that elected officials be citizens. So Djou should whip out that BC a prove his citizenship just to make a point.
BTW, I really like this guy from what I have seen so far. I hope that the people of HI have the good sense to keep him in office in Nov. And I hope the GOP has the good sense to direct him on a path to Leadership. I like the way he speaks and I like what he says.
Let’s not forget that one of the Constitutional requirements for election to Congress is to be an American citizen whereas the applicable requirement for the Presidency is to be a ‘natural born citizen’ i.e., born on American soil to American citizen parents. “Natural citizen” (whatever that is) is not a defense.

Hawaiian law has recently been changed. Djou does not need to meet FOIA requests. At least until Jan 21, 2013. Funny how the Rats in Hawaii went down that path this year.
