2012: Demint or Palin?
Vanity ^ | 4/20/2010 | FTJM

Given the obsession with the 2012 Presidential race and Palin's possible candidacy, who would you choose between Demint and Palin to be the GOP nominee for President at this point? If you'd like to see a ticket of both, specify which one you prefer for President and which one you prefer for Vice President.

Let’s just hope the GOP nominee is somebody as conservative as either of them. Not another McCain disaster.

OK. So here’s the deal. If you are going to characterize someone who has alot of fans here in unflattering terms, like he’s some kind of hick instead of the intellectual he is, then expect to take flack. DeMint has alot of fans here, myself included. And just as Palin fans will swarm down hard on those who characterize her as an airhead or worse, as they should, you should expect the same on DeMint.

I know you are supporting Palin, as are scads of folks here. I say good for you. And I know you are a conservative. But DeMint a used car salesman? That’s the equivalent of Palin being called a welfare queen or Hunter being called a petty crook.

I agree. Another McCain will wreck the party. I view Romney as being another McCain. He had his shot and blew it. He needs to stand aside now.

For others who have said our candidate hasn't revealed himself yet, I say forget it. If he wasn't in the fight in 2009 and 2010, he needn't come knocking in 2011.

Yep. I want a candidate who's had the guts to stand up to this bogus administration- several times. Kind words and typical republican 'kindness' will not work. And I won't support it.

Listen, in my original response, I meant to say that DeMint comes across as a (reputable) insurance salesman and not a used car salesman (that's Romney). It was literally a slip of the keyboard, based on my usual response to the Romneyites. I actually like DeMint, and could vote for him since I think he does have much integrity (even though he's got very close ties to Romney).

However, the point here is that DeMint's got the presence and charisma of an oak tree, and as a white male southern politician (like Barbour), he will have virtually NO chance against the Obama thug machine in a 2012 campaign. Race and gender are POTUS issues now, like it or not.

And do you really believe DeMint has the capacity to draw the same energetic crowds of GOP voters as Sarah Palin is doing, most notably in Louisville the other night, when 16,000 turned out to see her?

It just won't happen. Maybe in a perfect world, but not in ours.

With that said, I have no interest in brawling with you over this, so let's leave it alone.

Truce?

That’s a heck of a slip! LOL. I have no interest in warring with you or the palinistas. Though after 2010, things will surely warm up around here, as they always do. She won’t be my first choice unless it’s her against the RINOs. Nevertheless, she’s a conservative and I would get behind her if she wins the nomination.

As to her being the most popular now - big crowds and all - that has no bearing on me whatsoever. ANY conservative who is coherent, fearless, quick on his feet, and dedicated to scrapping the Obama agenda will crush the boy marxist, southern or not.

Palin for her ability to call out bo and take all kinds of crap. Sarah can put together a coalition of voters that I don’t think DeMint can. That said let DeMint be the Senate Leader that could rev up a real constitutional Gov’t.
