Chief of the U.S. Military: Shut down Guantanamo Bay

Published on 25 May 2009 by admin in General News, In The Media

Admiral Mike Mullen stated it simply, “I’d like to see it shut down.” Mullen believes Guantanamo has significantly damaged the reputation of the United States, even going so far as to say (in other articles) that it has been a powerful recruiting tool for Islamic terrorists. Rand couldn’t agree more. Rand believes America can fight terrorism and maintain its moral integrity without resorting to offshore prison camps, “prolonged detention”, and other, highly questionable legal measures. For Rand, national security and the rule of law go hand in hand. More and more high-ranking military officials are confirming his position.

Looks like someone forgot another copy of this existed on what appears to be some sort of an old mirror site (get your screen shots before they delete this one too and claim it never existed). After Grayson's campaign started to highlight Paul's support of closing Gitmo after the Obama Administration started moving the terror trials to U.S. civilian courts, the Rand Paul campaign promptly deleted this post from the website and later claimed it was actually a posting by non campaign staff on an "unofficial" website trying to draft him into the Senate race and was not from his official campaign website (but it was in fact there). Now this copy has surfaced on a google search for "Rand Paul shut down Guantanamo Bay." Ads are now being run by the Rand Paul campaign calling Grayson a 'liar' for suggesting Rand Paul was ever in favor of shutting down Gitmo and the military tribunals. Rand Paul attacked Guantanamo during his father's Presidential campaign so it pretty clear he decided to flip flop with his new claim of being strongly in favor of keeping the prison open and military tribunals...rather than stand his ground as it would be unpopular in this Senate bid - this from the supposedly "principled" candidate in the race.

I agree with R Paul, no more “prisons”...just kick the terrorists out of a C-130 in mid-flight.

Not surprised. I still like Rand better than pops. Hell, even Pres. Bush was moving to close it down towards the end of the term, wasn’t he? It never should have been divisive, but it did become so. The Dems created this false scandal in their battle to destroy Bush through a death of a thousand cuts. It is pathetic what they do.

I have never heard a single Republican - either a public official or private citizen - do anything but root for success in Afghanistan the past few months. One party is full of adults. The other infants.

End of his political career for sure.

It'll give Grayson some ammunition on the national security front and damage him a bit, but in the end he'll pull it out because of his limited government stand.

But this comment was hare-brained for sure.

"Where’s all the Paulites? Oh yeah, they’re spending all their time trying to rally everyone against Palin."

Sarah did endorse Rand, but she did make the caveat in a statement that although she disagree on some issues with him she likes his 10th amendment stance and limited government proposals

Are the paulistinians on their knees in front of the jihadis, or from behind?

They're using they're parents cash to buy them comfort camels.
