We’re all friends here, but I wish my friends wouldn’t resort to Obama’s talking points, i.e. it’s all Bush’s fault.

It’s not.

I am sorry — I have a fever and can’t watch it for fear I will get more sick, but believe me the sob stories haven’t even started!! And I have compassion for those who’ve been smacked with health bills, but here’s the upside—the SYSTEM THROUGH WHICH YOU GOT THE CARE WAS THERE FOR YOU WHEN YOU NEEDED it. After tonight, after this bill, you will not even be able to count on that.

Happy Dependence Day! [Mark Steyn]

Well, it seems to be in the bag now. I try to be a sunny the-glass-is-one-sixteenth-full kinda guy, but it’s hard to overestimate the magnitude of what the Democrats have accomplished. Whatever is in the bill is an intermediate stage: As the graph posted earlier shows, the governmentalization of health care will accelerate, private insurers will no longer be free to be “insurers” in any meaningful sense of that term (ie, evaluators of risk), and once that’s clear we’ll be on the fast track to Obama’s desired destination of single payer as a fait accomplis.

If Barack Obama does nothing else in his term in office, this will make him one of the most consequential presidents in history. It’s a huge transformative event in Americans’ view of themselves and of the role of government. You can say, oh, well, the polls show most people opposed to it, but, if that mattered, the Dems wouldn’t be doing what they’re doing. Their bet is that it can’t be undone, and that over time, as I’ve been saying for years now, governmentalized health care not only changes the relationship of the citizen to the state but the very character of the people. As I wrote in NR recently, there’s plenty of evidence to support that from Britain, Canada and elsewhere.

More prosaically, it’s also unaffordable. That’s why one of the first things that middle-rank powers abandon once they go down this road is a global military capability. If you take the view that the US is an imperialist aggressor, congratulations: You can cease worrying. But, if you think that America has been the ultimate guarantor of the post-war global order, it’s less cheery. Five years from now, just as in Canada and Europe two generations ago, we’ll be getting used to announcements of defense cuts to prop up the unsustainable costs of big government at home. And, as the superpower retrenches, America’s enemies will be quick to scent opportunity.

Longer wait times, fewer doctors, more bureaucracy, massive IRS expansion, explosive debt, the end of the Pax Americana, and global Armageddon. Must try to look on the bright side...

Yes, that’s an important part of the “sacrifice” thingie.

It’s not like they WANT to conform to the hardship and discipline. They do it because they love their country and family and friends.

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accuser, incontinent, fierce, despisers, of those that are good
Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more thean lovers of God
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such TURN AWAY

And the dough nut hole won’t be fixed for a decade according to the Dems plan.

The fix for this year involves a $250 one time payment.

How dare you imply I am using Obama’s talking points— why don’t you be honest and admit that Bush, who could have limited the growth of a FEDERAL Education Department, DID NOT and in fact grew it, by quite a bit. And Obama’s not blaming Bush for THAT!!

Stupak’s opponent was literally unknown as of yesterday. 200 friends on Facebook

Today, after Stupak’s bribe taking and sell out, Benishek has literally gone viral.

Thousands of hits on his facebook and now Twitter with promises of donations and support.
Front page story about his on American Spectator

If Stupak wasn’t worried about his seat this morning, he may want to reconsider.

I don’t have insurance and will not conform. I will break the law!

Well, now I have been giving this a lot of thought. I do have healthcare for myself and spouse through my employer. With this new 'bill' I am thinking about dropping the healthcare altogether, or at least dropping it for y spouse because that would be cheaper, and then paying the fine, which is cheaper, and waithing until we get sick to buy insurance because I cannot be denied because of pre-existing conditions. Will that work? Or, will I go to jail for doing such a thing?

“Obama may have just been re-elected tonight, and the (D) and NOT the (R) will win big this Nov.
Please set me right.”

It's about the 60 million who are aware and the 270 million who are fast asleep. So yes, big Dem win in Nov -— no matter how many actually vote Republican.
