Video: CPAC boos speaker for condemning invite to gay conservative group (CPAC to SoCons:"Get lost")

"While I was flipping through the autobiography, a woman approached the booth. Catherine Sumner, it turned out, was part of GOProud, a group of openly gay Republicans and conservatives that for the first time is taking part in CPAC. “Is this your flyer?” Sumner demanded, waving the white and green pamphlet. Thus launched a debate about gays in the military that pretty much ended when the booth attendee told her that homosexuality is a sin and she’s going to hell.

“It’s insulting,” Sumner, 31, who edits a military magazine, said turning away. “Across the board the reaction to GOProud’s presence here has been positive, but then you have guys like this. Even Dick Cheney came out and says he supports us. Conservatives have to be more inclusive, they have to be.” In fact, just one group, Liberty University, boycotted CPAC over the inclusion of GOProud, though the Catholic crowd weren’t the only ones unnerved by their presence: one booth down from GOProud’s set up in the fourth row, those manning the National Organization for Marriage, which works to ban gay marriage, kept casting nervous – and slightly envious – glances at the somewhat larger crowd surrounding GOProud’s booth.

The tensions didn’t end there. Along the back wall 2004 World Poker Champion Greg Raymer stood waiting for a talk radio interview. “Focus on the Family considers poker immoral,” Raymer said, gesturing towards the Focus on the Family booth down an aisle. “They have no right to tell me what to do.” Raymer is at CPAC representing the Poker Players Alliance..."

Amazing that conservatives are the on verge of regaining power and CPAC would take an action to split apart the conservative movement by embracing a homosexual group.

I’m not one bit concerned about CPAC or its Straw Poll.

I fully expect Romney and Paul to do well. Romney has won their poll the last three years, and what has it gained him? He still has to finance his own campaigns whereas, ONLY Sarah can raise the $ Millions needed to defeat Obama.

But they DO have the right to tell you that what you're doing is immoral. First amendment, and all that.

I have no problem with the free exercise of inalienable rights.

However, the reason that people who believe in such things as the "immorality" of poker join political groups, is to seek ways to elevate their opinion to law.

Oops - that's called "free assembly," and the Constitution doesn't place limits on it, either.

Come to think of it, the Constitution doesn't put any limits on the efforts of people to, say, ban poker, or anything else not specifically covered in that document.

That's why we have a little thing called "public participation," part of being a "republic," where the principle of the people being the "original legislative jurisdiction" comes into play. You want to keep playing poker, then join a political group and oppose the people you disagree with. Just don't pretend that the Constitution somehow limits them from pushing for political goals you don't like. Oh, and for the record, I don't support banning poker, etc., even though I do find it immoral. In a sense, I'm probably on the same side as you, as far as political positioning is concerned, I just find your reasoning a bit insufficient, is all.

“conservatives are the on verge of regaining power and CPAC would take an action to split apart the conservative movement by embracing a homosexual group.”

CPAC is not conservative anymore. It is firmly in the grip of Romney who wants to use it for his nefarious purposes, to masquerade as a conservative.

Don’t think the Dems aren’t encouraging this as well, with lefists like E.J.Dionne praising Romney and saying that fraudster is better qualified than Palin for the Presidency.

And Dems are the ultimate beneficiaries of the marginalization of social conservatives in the GOP. If they drive the Social conservatives out of the GOP, it makes it much easier to secure Obama’s reelction. Romney or Obama? Two sides of the same false coin.

Great quote.

These "realities of life" that President Reagan spoke of, include such things as homosexuals. They exist, and they are a reality.

The question we should all ask ourselves is what needs to be the focus of Conservative political action committees...the inexcusable actions of government, or the unpalatable behavior of individuals.

To the extent that politics, by definition, addresses government, it is my opinion that the primary object of Conservatives, should always be to demand that government behave as dictated by the Constitution, not that others adhere to our individual codes of behavior.

Time enough for that later, once we have jointly solved the larger issues of a government marching inexorably toward Socialism.

I'm back. Decided to keep fighting.

Another article about CPAC with some freeper attendee/s input. IMO if CPAC is allowing GOProud in, they're compromised too much to be of use.

“I’m not one bit concerned about CPAC or its Straw Poll.”

It is bought and paid for, by Mittens. It is fishwrap. Sarah will have all the financial resources she needs to wipe the floor with him.

What military magazine, I wonder? Does it have a homosexual taint or is it straight military topics?

Poker players aren’t trying to change laws nor destroy the military or marriage.

This guy is a fake. He has another agenda, and why are people like that allowed at a supposed conservative conference? Might as well allow the conservative branch of NAMBLA and the conservative S&M groups. /sarc

Come to think of it, the Constitution doesn't put any limits on the efforts of people to, say, ban poker, or anything else not specifically covered in that document.

The Constitution's main thrust, and our form of government, is the notion that the individual must be protected from the will of an omnipotent majority, as it is the individual's inalienable rights that are Supreme, and no group of individuals, be that group a State, or even a nation, has the power to do anything other than violate your rights, or punish you from exercising them.

For the further record, I made no mention of the Constitution, nor did I allege that people did not have the right to do what I described, I just commented on the idea that they had "no right" to tell this man whether he could play poker, or not.

Of course he has that right.

You are accepting the stereotyped version of social conservatives. Exactly what leftists do.

And you are certainly judging the man by his facial features alone, discounting his words, which is a very weird thing to do.

This is why we need some new, young blood in the Conservative movement. It’s just pathetic that Arizona’s now stuck choosing between a Rino and a criminal. I pray for this country. I was reading on another post that the crowd who booed was full of college students and that’s why. It’s scary how thorough the libs have gotten with indoctrinating our youth. The only hope I can see is maybe attending one of these type of conferences, they can meet a few real Conservatives....but with all the infiltrators, who knows?

“Poker players aren’t trying to change laws nor destroy the military or marriage.”

True, but what in th blue blazes was someone representing the Poker Players Alliance doing at an alleged conservative political event and taking jabs at one of the largest conservative groups in the country.

CPAC must sell tables to the highest bidder. What a sham organization. Romney is well matched with it.

I don’t think you understand what I’m talking about. Same-sex “marriage” is a means of using the power of the state to force people to violate their religious beliefs, by requiring them to treat people who are not married as if they are.

There is no opportunity here to vote “present.”

Silence about the homosexual agenda on their part = tacit support, and often financial support as well.

It is not a tiny minority who are pushing it, unfortunately, and they have many non-homosexual supporters of course.
