Police Pursue Warrant To Search Tiger's House: Report (possible domestic abuse charges for wife)
Toronto Star ^ | 11/30/09

Posted on 11/30/2009 10:01:00 AM PST by caddystacks

Florida police are seeking a warrant to search the house of golfer Tiger Woods and may plan to lay charges of domestic abuse against his wife, Elin Nordegren, according to a report on TMZ.com.

Woods and Nordegren have been at the centre of a global media maelstrom since it was revealed that he had been injured in a one-car accident on his Orlando property Friday.

Early reports portrayed Nordegren as a hero who freed the injured Woods from his SUV by using a golf club to smash out the windows.

Since that first report, a number of problems have emerged in Woods's claim that the accident – in which he backed into a tree and a fire hydrant – was the result of simple carelessness.

A steady trickle of information now points to a different possibility: a loud, early morning argument over a National Enquirer story accusing Woods of an extra-marital affair. Various outlets have speculated that Woods was attempting to flee his angry wife as she swung a golf club at his car.

Three times in three days, Woods has refused to speak to police officers about the accident. If the TMZ report is true, the option for refused entry may soon be removed.

Meanwhile, Woods published a statement online on Sunday.

"This is a private matter and I want to keep it that way," Woods wrote in part. "Although I understand there is curiosity, the many false, unfounded and malicious rumors that are currently circulating about my family and me are irresponsible."

The FHP should get a life and go crack down on drug smugglers/speeders on the turnpike. Leave Tiger and his family alone.

Well, no . . . Once the police are called to the scene of an incident, they really have no choice but to investigate it fully.

What is the state law? Must charges be pressed even if the victim does not want to press them?

Without Woods complaining, they will never get cause for a warrant.

That's true in most states.

Are there no bank robbers out there? The parks are safe at night? You can walk down any street in the city without worry?

This is over the top. Neither party has asked for police intervention. They’re wasting taxpayer money.

Not really. For example, if the gender roles were flipped, the police would have acted very differently.

If she had facial lacerations and crashed the SUV and Tiger was the one accused of taking out a window with a golf club, you can be damn sure that he'd have been arrested on the spot.

There wouldn't be refusals to interview...only issues of arraignment, restraining orders, and bail.

Domestic violence is a crime only if it is against women.

Police can arrest on suspicion of domestic violence in Florida. This couple may both be good with their irons.

Is Tiger Woods above the law? I say treat him the same way the Joe the Ditchdigger would be treated under similar circumstances, i.e., running over a fire hydrant and hitting a tree.

Where have you been for the last ten years concerning Domestic Violence? In most states they don’t need a complaint from one party or the other it more of big brother controlling the people. In California if the cops go to a house for DV whether one files a complaint or not 99% of the time one of the two is going to jail unlike days of old when one would be asked to leave the house for the night. Yeah there are better things for cops to do but our legislators want us under their thumb for everything. Oh if you get convicted of DV try and keep a gun.

Charge away Florida cops,, and see what kind of testimony you get when you put the “victim” on the stand to testify against her. It’ll be extra funny when they show up at court together each day holding hands.

Idiots.

They go away only after somebody is charged with something. What's unusual about this case is that Tiger is not the one in the sights.

After all, we "know" that DV is only against women. Women even have their own special law (VAWA) to cover it. What's going on here?

Just what do they hope to find in searching Tiger’s house? A judge who allows this warrant needs to be thrown off the bench. The accident occurred outside. The golf club has probably been thrown away by now(or should have been, if she whacked him with it). Even so, blood on the club can easily be explained away, the club was there is close proximity to Tiger. If I was Tiger, if he really wants to protect his wife, I would get rid of that and any thing else that might incriminate her, as far as I am concerned the police should stay out of it.

maybe this is what sent Elin over the top... I am not a gossip columnist but I did ask around ‘certain circles.’ These “circles” scoffed at the idea of Tiger’s innocence. I was told that over the last three to five years, many a jet was occupied by Mr. Woods and his entourage, with an ex-working girl tasked to provide beauties for the beasts. Come back tomorrow for more on the working girl in question—a lady based out of Chicago who is a regular “pal” of one of Tiger’s inner circle. “The jets would touch down in L.A. or Vegas or wherever the party was,” said my source. I asked if Mr. Woods was partaking in the girlie action? She responded with “duh.” http://www.blackbookmag.com/article/good-night-mr-lewis-uchitel-woods-club-connection/13466

No. That only applies to poor people, driving broken-down pickups and living in trailer parks. If the rich want to beat each other and drive wildly and crash on public steets, then it’s none of the cops’ business, as long as nobody in the family wants to press charges.

“I say treat him the same way the Joe the Ditchdigger”

And Joe Ditchdigger woulda got a ticket that night for reckless driving or whatever, and theis woulda been over 2 days ago. There wouldnt be a TEAM of detectives and DA’s, swinging into action the next week, to deeply delve into Joe Ditchdigger’s evening, trying to ferret out that he was a actually domestic violence victim, when he is standing there saying “The whole wreck is 100% MY fault”.

Never,,

The scenario you presented is exactly what happened in the case of Hiram Monserrate -- a New York State Senator who was charged with assaulting his girlfriend with a broken bottle a while back.

No, she didn't cooperate with the police. Yes, she said she loved him. And yes, they showed up holding hands together every day in court.

He was acquitted of the most serious charges but was found guilty on two counts of assault.

My first reaction was that it was some type of domestic violence. I turned to hubby and said “She carried a golf club to the crash site? Why the heck would she do that?”. It just didn’t make sense. Now that they are refusing to cooperate it makes even more sense.

"Rachel is being painted as a homewrecker, and it doesn’t seem fair. It takes two to tango. And if the shock, jealousy, and moral indignation of the shamed wife is entertaining, it’s still strange. When watching Tiger toss clubs around and scream at people at televised golf tournaments, does it seem like he’s a person who cares about others’ feelings or plays by rules of decency and decorum? Did his wife expect that he would play on a one-hole golf course?"

LOL. Line of the day.

Well, she claims she drove a golf cart to the crash site, and there is a golf cart in the photos, so that could explain why she had a golf club.

Yeah,, but that was a man,, and a state senator,,,accused of assaulting HER. It’ll be different when the woman is the accused,,, and the “victim” is a uber-wealthy guy, clearly not beholden to her for his well-being or livelyhood.

Gonna be pretty hard to cast him as pressured into supporting her against his will. (except maybe by the San Francisco types)

Beware of Tiger fan boy syndrome that many suffer from. My issue is the PGA and TV treat him like he is the only player out there and treat the other players like sh*t. It is disgusting.

Phil kicked his a*s in Shanghai, Lucas at the U.S. Open and Tiger missed the cut at the British Open but he was still the story. Phil beat him at the Masters and shot a 30 on the front nine at the final round which is staggering.

As far as the cops - the wife or someone called the cops and with DV they have to investigate. Ignoring the cops requests 3 times is BS. Yeah I know about Constitutional rights but you try to tell the cops my husband is asleep so come back later.
