The suspect is described as an African-American man, between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a black coat and blue jeans, with a "scruffy" appearance, he said. The man is believed to have fled the coffee shop on foot, he said."

SNIPPET: “LAKEWOOD, Wash. - Four uniformed police officers were shot and killed in a bloody Sunday morning ambush at a Lakewood-area coffee shop, officials said.

Pierce County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Ed Troyer called the ambush “a targeted attack” on the four Lakewood police officers as they were preparing to start their shifts at about 8:15 a.m.”

SNIPPET: “Three male officers and one female officer all died at the scene.

State Attorney General Rob McKenna termed the shootings an “assassination.”

About 2 1/2 hours after the deadly ambush, officers identified a white Chevy pickup truck abandoned at 134th Street and Pacific Avenue South that is believed to be the one that the suspect fled in.”

Seattle Police Officer Killed

A Seattle police officer was shot to death and another officer was wounded late Saturday night while conducting a traffic stop in the city’s Central District neighborhood.

The officer who died was a veteran of the department, and the woman who was wounded is a student officer in training, Assistant Chief Jim Pugel said

Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer says the officers - four male and one female - were in full uniform and wearing bulletproof vests, sitting in Forza coffee shop near 116th Street and Steele Street on the east side of the Air Force base at about 8:30 a.m.”

Of course, my prayers and condolences to the family and friends of these four brave and needed officers.

My first thought was how in the world did this happen? These people were highly trained professionals and knew how to react in different situations. Even now, after 42 years, when I do go to a restaurant, I am adamant about where I sit. Driving thru a city I constantly am looking around, checking my mirrors, never stopping close to the vehicle in front of me, always a way of escape.
I by no means am criticizing these brave Americans. But I do wonder.

Again, my prayers and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of these 4 American heroes.

Thank you, Cindy. I’ve been up the Hills with Mr. RR (would you believe panning for gold?) all day and this is the first I’ve heard of this tragic event. My Dad was stationed at McChord in the ‘50s. We used to live in Parkland. It was a beautiful and quiet area then. That was back in the era of poodle skirts, bobby sox and very early Elvis.
