Sarah Palin. Again, I think Cheney should be in the debates to bring out some interesting points that Sarah could answer the rest may fall flat on there face with.

Who opposes amnesty and open borders? I like Cheney but the last 2 years of Bush Admin was going through the motions. I am not sure what they were doing which was a real shame.

I like Sarah but the nod might go to Cheney. The problem is he is too old and not very healthy anymore. If Fred had been a bit younger and got organized earlier - he might have saved us in 2008.

Break with the past, move forward - Sarah Palin.

Cheney has the experience along with the baggage. Palin is a breath of fresh air. Cheney is a politician; Palin is a hockey mom. As for experience, name one President who was prepared for the office. No one is ever really prepared for the enormity of the job.

Palin for me too. Its not a matter of disliking Cheney, I just think Palin is a step back in the direction of representing the people rather than the party.

Palin. Haliburton/Darth Vader Cheney would never pull the squishy Middle tier or voters.

Start fresh...

I totally agree. She is a fresh face that we need. But.....Cheney, in the debates, can speak on matters that others will not and give Sarah a platform to work from. He could do this without any intention of winning.

Cheney is a hawk but not a social conservative. He supports gay marriage. He was key part of an administration that increased government and did not return to Conservatism and small Government. “Compassionate Conservatism” = failure.

Palin is a the hawk and a social conservative. She defends priciples and values. She is the only candidate I trust to lead us back to “Common-sense Conservatism”.

Also Cheney is old, of bad health and without a chance.
Palin is young, energetic and will win 2012.

Easy as that, actually.

Palin - time for a whole new group -

I really like Cheney and he has valuable knowledge to draw from, but we need a totally new non-connected, non-inside circle, group of real Constitutionalist Conservatives to open the windows and clear out the stale air.

Yeah , these questions are so unfairly rigged for Cheney because he has the qualifications and she doesn't .

Cheney would probably lean for it and Palin would be against it.

"If Fred had been a bit younger and..."

Problem with that is that Thompson didn't really want the job.

Both he and Cheney would fit nicely into a Palin cabinet, age and health aren't big issues in that event.

Whether she's perfect or only sort of perfect, Palin can energize the audience and she already has a foot hold with the base. What's needed is to dump the RINOS hard enough to convince the GOP that we won't suffer another McCain, a Romney, or any other closet socialist.

Because of Cheney’s health, age, and especially the fact that he does not want the job, I choose Palin. I’d love to see Cheney as Veep again, but we need to focus on the future: the Veep should also be someone who could be President.

If it happened...Vice President Cheney.

As a matter of objective reality, on the other hand, I think it’s unlikely that the veep is going to run for president in 2012 or beyond, and I think at this point everybody knows why. So given that...Governor Palin.

Bush and Cheney had eight years to confront the MSM over their lies and deliberate attempt to destroy the Bush presidency. That lack of spine and guts gave us the Puke that resides in the WH today.

And in the late 80s early 90s, Cheney was a BIG proponent of the Patsy Schroeder, DACOWITS, Tailhook mentality. He’s ok,,, but he’s not all people make him out to be. Im sick of a politician’s being aggressive in war, being mistaken for being conservative. I haven’t heard him lead us a single step away from the internationalist, open border, pro-NAFTA mentality.

To me he sounds like just another internationalist, “bankers first” guy who will use our military aggressively, thereby tricking regular nice people into thinking he is Conservative overall. Sarah all the way.

“of experience, knowledge, resolve, dedication, public speaking, interview skills, political savvy and ability, conservative credentials, coolness under fire, etc”

Sounds like Palin to me.

Of course, we're not to supposed to recognize that because she's not a Washington insider. She's just been a governor.

Hmmm, That sounds familiar. Didn't we elect a president a while back that was just a governor? In 1980. wasn't it?

As I remember, that turned out pretty well.

Unfortunately the question compares apples and oranges. Cheney is an experienced and well spoken statesman; someone worth listening to, but his age, health and his past is against him. Sarah is an honest conservative and also speaks well, but totally lacks experience at the national level, although I think she tries to do the right thing. So maybe the question shouldn’t be an either/or kind of question. Sarah might be a good choice with good advisors. So, how about Sarah as president with Cheney as a silent advisor in the background, along with other conservatives and moderates? The fact is, almost any conservatives, or even moderates, would be a far better choice for Whitehouse staff than the socialists that are now advising the president.

Carter- Governor
Reagan - Governor
Bush 1 - VP
Clinton- Governor
Bush 2 - Governor

I’m not sure what you’re post is supposed to imply.

“Cheney is a hawk but not a social conservative.”

Exactly,,, and far too many people confuse the two. Ditto for Bush. Hawks are often that way to mask their left of center approach to Economic and Social policy at home.
Take away the war, and personal morality, and Bush wasn’t THAT different from Clinton on policy. Here and there,, but in the main thrust,,, no.

“Cheney because he has the qualifications and she doesn’t”

On everything except the war, Cheney has been silent for 8 years. And what are his conservative credentials? He a big pro-lifer? He against gay marriage? He against prespcription plan? He a huge budget cutter? He have much to say on the economy? He is no different than the presidencies we have suffered under since 1988. Bush I, Clinton, Bush II. He fits that bunch perfectly, time to gracefully leave.

FReeper Poll - In a match up between Dick Cheney and Sarah Palin, whom would you vote for?

Sheesh, Bob, this is so easy! Sarah Palin, of course.
Now you don't specify what type of match but if it's boxing Palin wins because Cheney wouldn't hit a lady. If soccer, Palin, because she runs in marathons and has more stamina. A chess match might be interesting, but I'd give the advantage to Palin. With five children she seems more adept at mating.

Have a GREAT day, Bob!

Palin. If Cheney could consistently rally crowds in the thousands all over the U.S. and demonstrate an ability to connect with self-described "independents" the way that Palin can, I'd feel differently.

I LOVE Cheney, by the way. But that doesn't blind me to the fact that Palin is a gift of a caliber that Cheney cannot even begin to touch, and I believe Cheney would be the first to acknowledge it.
