LIBERALS ARE AFRAID OF SARAH PALIN
boblonsberry.com ^ | 11/23/09 | Bob Lonsberry

Posted on 11/23/2009 5:55:03 AM PST by shortstop

They must really be afraid of Sarah Palin.

The liberals in Washington and in the media, they must be absolutely, crap-their-pants terrified.

I say that because of the mockery.

That’s their grand strategy. Make fun of anybody who disagrees with them. It damages their opponents in the public mind and it gives their party a scapegoat. Hitler mocked Jews, Jim Crow mocked blacks, liberals mock conservatives.

It is a public vilification that seeks to address the grand issues of our day through prejudice and stereotype.

Anybody who disagrees with the liberals must be stupid, and you prove you are smart by making fun of her.

Ask Tina Fey.

Disagree on global warming, you’re an idiot. Oppose Obamacare, you’re an idiot. Go to church, you’re an idiot. Oppose abortion, you’re an idiot. Own a gun, you’re an idiot. Drive a pick-up truck, you’re an idiot. Oppose gay marriage, you’re an idiot. Want lower taxes, you're an idiot. Resent government intrusion, you're an idiot.

Liberalism has so simplified its pitch that it boils down to: If you don’t agree with us, it’s because you’re an idiot. You’re not smart enough to understand, you lack the enlightenment of the left.

And so those who disagree with them are met with condescension and derision – on the floor of the Congress and at the desk on the evening news. Liberals don’t argue, they mock. They don’t want to discuss the merits of an issue, they want to ridicule those on the other side of the issue.

It’s far easier to herd their followers that way.

It is an ugly sort of prejudice, essentially a bigotry, but their experience teaches them that “the politics of personal destruction” is the best trick they’ve got.

It gave Barack Obama the White House, for example.

Identify the person who is a threat to you, and make fun of him or her. Define them as an idiot in the public mind and then, by whipping up animosity against that person, rally people to your side. Make that person both your scapegoat and your whipping boy. To use Biblical words, make him a “hiss and a byword.”

That is what the liberals in Washington and in the media have done since Ronald Reagan. Mock, belittle, destroy.

Like they did with George W. Bush.

Like they did with Dick Cheney.

Like they are trying for all they’re worth to do to Sarah Palin.

That has been obvious on this book tour. For what is already the second-biggest political memoir of all time, media coverage has invariably treated the book and its author like a joke.

Barbara Walters played it like a game of gotcha, throwing obscure foreign-relations questions at Sarah Palin, hoping to find something she didn’t know or force her into a stumbling response. The media’s clear intent has been to trip her up, to get grist for the “stupid” mill. After never fact checking a political memoir ever, the Associated Press assigned not one reporter to scour Sarah Palin’s book, but 11. Eleven reporters working fulltime to rip it apart.

That’s not journalism, that’s antagonism.

That's not not just a double standard, that's double dealing.

That’s the politics of personal destruction.

That’s the left doing everything it can to destroy a person who threatens it. The liberals in Washington and in the media know that they might not be able to beat her at the ballot box, so they need to beat her now, by poisoning the public mind against her, by defining her as a buffoon. Before people come to know her, the liberals have to destroy her. It is democracy by defamation.

And yet thousands are lining up to meet her. To shake her hand and buy her book and take her picture.

And to tell her not to give up, to keep pushing, to never give up on conservatism.

What scares the liberals is that Sarah Palin is normal. She has a college degree from Idaho, an accent from Alaska and a dinner-table common sense from Main Street America. She’s not an orator, she’s not a PhD, she hasn’t spent her life padding her resume.

But she’s one of us. She’s got the red, white and blue feeling in her gut that the Washington politicians wouldn’t recognize if it slapped them across the face. She’s got the sense that people trust, knowing that she has been where they’ve been and believed what they have believed.

In a republic, the notion of having a leader who actually represents the people is a good idea. And the bottom line is that Sarah Palin, in her character and values, is more like America than any other current national politician – certainly more than the president.

And that scares the liberals.

So they are trying to destroy her through mockery. They are trying to make her a joke.

Because their philosophy is bankrupt and their agenda is ruinous, and they recognize in Sarah Palin the sort of patriotism, populism and popularity that their tax-and-spend-and-regulate Marxism can’t stand up against. She is an American girl standing in the way of their post-national socialist New World Order.

And she’s got a lot of real Americans on her side.

And that leaves the liberals absolutely, crap-their-pants terrified.

When leftists ridicule Sarah, they are ridiculing ALL of us. They are ridiculing AMERICA and what makes her great.

Politicians mock Sarah at their peril. 2010 is going to be their awakening.

Bingo!

This is Palin's 'secret weapon'. Her basic decency and common sense, her family - troubles included (which she handles with aplomb) her religious values and her sincere patriotism along with her sensible, conservative political views are anathema to liberals. Sarah Palin represents the 'average' American and in way that makes the liberals cringe when you compare Palin to, say, Hillary Clinton with her vaunted Yale law degree and supposed 'sophistication'. There is simply no contest. The left knows this - and fears her. Rightly so.

Unfortunately, so do the 'moderate' Republicans running the RNC today. They want her to fail so they can put up yet another McCain-style RINO politician as the Republican presidential candidate in 2012, thus guaranteeing Obama's re-election. Third parties are a dead end and I doubt Palin would go that way, looking at the futility of such a move. Ronald Reagan had to fight the 'Rockefeller Republicans' (the RINOs of the '70's) for the GOP presidential nomination in '76 (he lost), finally won it in 1980 and America was a better place because he did. Palin will be in a similar position in 2012.

However, Palin has the distinct advantage of conservative talk radio, some influential conservatives on TV (Sean Hannity comes to mind) and the internet, not the least of that asset being Facebook, Twitter and, of course, Free Republic.

Boy, I’m sure relieved that conservatives never mock liberals. LOL

Conservatives do not use Saul Alinsky mean-spirited mockery. We don't stoop to their level very often. CHARACTER matters. Sarah Palin has Character in Spades. 0bama has Spuds or Suds for character.

Yep, and the entire MSM(save for Fox) will mercilessly trash her 24/7 if she decides to run.

That is why they are so worried ---They have threw everything they could at her and she refused to go away

We're mocking them because of the truth about themselves, not because they are pointing out the truth about ourselves.

As I said before, the GOP is just PEOPLE, it has no thoughts, no feelings, no beliefs, no anything. It only does what the majority of it's members want it to do.

There is no dark room somewhere where the GOP picks the presidential candidate and laughs at our wasted votes in the primaries which mean nothing. McCain was nominated by people voting for him, no secret GOP group selected McCain and forced him upon us in an evil plot to enforce one world government on us.

I am a big supporter of Palin, and I will gladly donate and work to get her elected President. But if she can't win over the majority of conservatives (republicans) in the primary, she has no chance of winning the general election when liberals and moderates will be voting too.

Don’t forget, she is able to by-pass all those old phart busybodies on the local level. They want palin to pay dues TO THEM.

If Palin has a personality and a presence SUPERIOR to the mere party, then instead of Palin being beholding to the party, the party has to be beholding to Palin.

"Conservatives do not use Saul Alinsky mean-spirited mockery."

Well, this forum is abundant in non-conservatives, if that is the case. I know that "Alinsky" is all the buzz and the hot word to use these days, but a very simple truth is that republicans mock democrats and democrats mock republicans -- all day, every day. That is what politics has become. Neither side listens to the other and, if a republican were to actually engage in meaningful debate with a democrat, they would quickly be labeled a RINO for having that discussion. Again, that is what politics has become.

The degree and/or form that the mockery takes is viewed dependent on which side of the aisle you reside. Do moonbat liberals deserve to be mocked? IMHO, yes they do. Is the mockery productive? Not really. What one has to realize is that on the other side of the coin, the far left believes that conservatives should be mocked. Our forefathers believed what they believed and were willing to die for those beliefs. From everything I've read, they did not engage in all of the mockery. Of course, all of the moonbattery did not exist back then.

Sadly, that is the truth. I can't imagine how vitriolic it will be by the time 2011 or 12 actually rolls around.

One reason they are doing this now, besides being
terrified of her as a political opponent is so that
the voters will be saturated with Palin coverage by
the time the elections roll around.

Oh god , not more Palin. is what they are working for.

Ridicule is the most potent force in political scenarios.

I'm just afraid she's been Tina Fayed a little too much and it's stuck in too many people's minds a little too much. I'm just sayin... Even though I believe she's the best currently out there...

Thank you for the Lonsberry piece.
Sarah appeared at a suburban Rochester, NY Borders bookstore on Saturday evening. Sunday’s Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported that the crowd began to form on Friday. By 8:00 a.m. Saturday, there was a line of 100 women waiting to use the rest room facilities at a nearby grocery store.

I returned home from the airport around 2:15 p.m. Saturday and found the I-390 exit backed up, with gridlock on the overpass leading to the Borders store, a short distance away.

The D & C reported attendance at 1000, the number of books she had agreed to autograph.

This morning Glenn Beck reported on his own book tour. He, also, contracted to sign 1000 books. His appearance was reported to have drawn 1000 fans. He reported the response was overwhelming and in the thousands.

I’m hereby reporting something “fishy”.

Anybody else go to a Palin or Beck booksigning? How did your reality compare with the coverage?

The problem is the two-party system. That’s the problem. Until we solve that...we will NOT make any progress. The government will continue to expand and we will end up embroiled in armed conflict.

I would rather actually fix the problem and avoid armed conflict.

Supporting either the GOP or Democrats only ensures that the two-party system will continue and will not fix anything and only expose us to more continued danger.

Why would you want to continue to support any of this?

Just because you think that is the way you can get someone elected...I challenge you to have more vision, more trust in common sense America. The time is now to ditch these people that have screwed us and work to getting people elected that will actually uphold their oath to the US Constitution.

as I have said a number of times now... The GOP is nothing but people...

If all those people go to another party with a different name... everything will be exactly the same and you will have accomplished nothing. If only half go, you will have fewer conflicts but then you will only have 25% of the electorate behind you, the place you left will have 25%, and the liberals will will 50%. Tell me how that = victory?

The last several elections have clearly proven that the country is nearly evenly divided along ideological lines, how is splitting the conservative and quasi-conservative vote in 2 while allowing the liberals to have all the rest a prescription for victory?

It doesn't even matter if you use different %’s. Let say real conservatives represent 80% of the republican party even then you have the remaining 20% which represent 10% of the electorate draining votes away from your candidate.

I am all for 3rd parties when they take votes away from liberals and dilute the liberal coalition. So if you just GOT to start a 3rd party please start one that is liberal, and leave the conservative coalition alone.

Here are the “people” that are the GOP...

WASHINGTON — Republican Sen. Tom Coburn is backing off his threat to require that the Senate read the 2,074-page health care bill because some GOP colleagues aren’t supporting the effort.

The Oklahoma lawmaker said there’s uncertainty about whether reading the bill during Thanksgiving week would be productive. He also said that if the Republicans do decide to tie up the Senate for the dozens of hours it would take, six GOP colleagues have committed to pitching in on reading duty.

Coburn also said in an interview with The Associated Press that he questions whether Americans who might be listening in would understand a line-by-line reading.

Coburn, who is a doctor, said he wants Americans and other senators to know what’s in the bill.

So why would the “great” people in the GOP not want the bill read? Reading the bill would give everyone a chance to see what is actually in the bill?

You will see the bill will be passed and America as we know it or want to know will have ended and we can thank the “people” in the GOP for this to happen and somehow you want to continue to support them...like somehow through some magic the “people” ALLOWED to be in the GOP will somehow change.

Hoffman proved that isn’t possible...but please keep fooling yourself and drinking the GOP kool-aid and you will just continue to keep our country in the position we currently find ourselves in.

I haven’t read this whole thread so this may have been covered already, but if we look back at all the recent (last hundred years) political assassinations, the assassins were all liberals and their victims were generally considered to be conservative. I truly fear for Sarah. I know she has security guards with her and usually the local police help out but... She still needs help so pray for her, folks.

Just my cents deux.

Good insight. She has the same ability that Ronald Reagan possessed. She, like Reagan, talks directly to the people and does NOT need the media. That abhor that. They attacked Reagan for that same Reason.

As you pointed out, Palin has access to something that Reagan didn't.. the INTERNET, which adds to her ability to speak directly to the people. She's gaining strength and momentum daily.

>>>I am as conservative as they come, and I sure like the lady. But, I’d rather not see the Couric interview played 100,000 times come 2012. She will be Quayled beyond comparison
Who else? I sure wish I had an an answer.<<<

I’m a former media guy and I have the answer.

Go on the offensive. For every snarky comment made against Sarah Palin, go on the offensive and humuliate and defame the person making the snarky comment. When a reporter writes a libelous column, go find that reporter’s roommate in college and write, in public, on billboards, about the reporter’s dope habits and bad treatment of old girlfriends and supposedly-stated comments that sound inane.

Go after every leftist politician and publicize their misdeeds. Go for the throat. Be vicious and vile. Put together a network that is truly partisan, for conservatives, and pull out the stops. Organize letter-writing campaigns. Find out about local laws and file phony complaint after another - especially against the media, television, and web sites. TV stations have licenses, you know; file a complaint. There are loads of government agencies devoted to civil rights complaints - whenever a liberal defames a Christian, go after them. Whenever a member of the black caucus even comes close to smearing a person of non-minority descent, have them explain it to the panel. Are those teachers in your district spewing leftist propoganda? There are newspapers and school boards and commissions that deal with teaching licenses.

We are in a war. The left seeks, openly, to transform our republic of limited government and individual rights into something very, very different. We have not asked for the battle, but it has come to us.

Use their strategies against them, and keep using it until the enemy is vanquished. That’s what they want to do with us.

You understand the disgusting liberals quite well. Their influence needs to be destroyed

The liberals benefit from the decline of a moral culture because they are moral reprobates and they wallow in filth.

They do not have the ability to live in the freedoms that can only be retained by a forthright and moral country, thus they waylay morality every chance they get.

I agree with you, they need to be outed for what they are, then humiliated, then ostracized that their influence will be reduced to nil.

There answer will be increased liquor and dope with their fellow reprobates.

>>>You understand the disgusting liberals quite well. Their influence needs to be destroyed.<<<

I was raised to be one myself, by good New York Jewish parents, and I still have relatives on the Upper East Side, several on Long Island, and my mom will go to her grave praising FDR.

David Horowitz said once that the upcoming battle will not be between the conservatives and the liberals, but between those of us who were formerly leftists and seen the truth, and those leftists who still embrace leftist ideals.

War is dirty. That’s why it always seems like the left is winning - they understand that you must “break a few eggs.” Our side is still thinking that it’s a debating society, and we are being slowly killed for it. The left’s treatment of Sarah Palin is emblematic of the problem. Conservatives should have treated Barack Obama the same way - and Lord knows he has more baggage than Palin - but we chose to play fair. As a result, Obama is president, and there are huge numbers of people who think Sarah Palin is a simpleton. In fact, I know Sarah and her husband, and they are intelligent people, and she would make a fine leader of this country. I can either believe my own experience or listen to the distorted views of others on that.

I just wish those who love liberty and freedom would fight with the same vigor as those who crave collectivism and power.

Good post, I have Jewish blood in my family as well, all principled conservatives who put God first and work very hard because we believe this is what God expects.

I really like Sarah Palin for her decency first and I don't expect her to be perfect.

On the other hand, Barrack Obama is a man who has a searing hatred for what is righteous.

In my younger days, many years ago, I had three Jewish roomates at different times and now two of the three are dedicated old men of the right, like I am.

They both have great minds and great courage.

The other old roomate is very liberal and a very troubled man who has redoubled his radical liberal efforts.
