Humans are unusual animals by any stretch of the imagination, ones that have changed the face of the world around us. What makes us so special when compared to the rest of the animal kingdom? Some things we take completely for granted might surprise you.

You don't have to believe in evoloserism to comprehend that Elaine Morgan is almost certainly right in thinking that humans originally lived in water, and that we share a large number of traits with the aquatic mammals and with nothing else on the planet.

The most obvious difference between us and apes is our legs being the major limbs, which is an adaptation for swimming and wading. Likewise our voluntary control over breathing which apes lack; that is the ONLY reason that chimps and gorillas cannot be taught to speak English, they communicate using deaf signs perfectly well.

I love the comment below that article that suggests humans are no better than any other animal on the planet. I suppose we should define what “better” means for him.

We are at the top of the food chain. We are able to change our habitat to suit our needs and comfort. We are consious of our existence. We are a little smarter than any other animal as a race.

I am not ashamed to state unequivocally, we are better than any other living species.
