How freezing temperatures are starting to shatter climate change theory

Snowfall: Two mongrels enjoy today's fresh snow in Austria - the earliest snow since records began

In the freezing foothills of Montana, a distinctly bitter blast of revolution hangs in the air.

And while the residents of the icy city of Missoula can stave off the -10C chill with thermals and fires, there may be no easy remedy for the wintry snap's repercussions.

The temperature has shattered a 36-year record. Further into the heartlands of America, the city of Billings registered -12C on Sunday, breaking the 1959 barrier of -5C.

Closer to home, Austria is today seeing its earliest snowfall in history with 30 to 40 centimetres already predicted in the mountains.

Such dramatic falls in temperatures provide superficial evidence for those who doubt that the world is threatened by climate change.

But most pertinent of all, of course, are the growing volume of statistics.

According to the National Climatic Data Centre, Earth's hottest recorded year was 1998.

If you put the same question to NASA, scientists will say it was 1934, followed by 1998. The next three runner-ups are 1921, 2006 and 1931.

Which all blows a rather large hole in the argument that the earth is hurtling towards an inescapable heat death prompted by man's abuse of the environment.

Indeed, some experts believe we should forget global warming and turn our attention to an entirely differently phenomenon - global cooling.

The evidence for both remains inconclusive, which is unlikely to help the legions of world leaders meeting in Copenhagen in December to negotiate a new climate change deal.

There is no doubt the amount of man-made carbon dioxide, the gas believed to be responsible for heating up the planet, has increased phenomenally over the...

Whatever happened to global warming?

It doesn't exist. Never did. The temperature goes up. The temperature goes down. So Al Gore, et al, stopped calling it "Global Warming" and started calling it "Climate Change." I call it: "The Weather."

Where’s Al Gore?

I distinctly remember him being out there a few years ago, during a summer heat wave, talking about global warming, and that a summer hot spell was evidence of that.

So, I expect Al Gore to go to Montana and comment on the cold early fall weather there. Of course now GLOBAL WARMING is now called CLIMATE CHANGE so they don’t get called on changes in day to day weather.

Ok. The announcement that crap and tax is being abandoned is due to arrive in 5... 4...

Ok. The announcement from the EPA that breathing isn’t destroying the environment?

Climate change legislation including Kyoto?

Refunds on carbon trading?

Reversal of cafe standards?

Guess not.

What global warming? In much of the U.S., we are already in the deep freeze and it’s still October...much too early for all this. We’re expected to get frost here tonight, about 2 or 3 weeks earlier than normal. And out west in the Rockies, they just had a major snow/ice storm. Bleah!

The climate changes here from Summer to Winter every year. Sometimes colder sometimes hotter. When the weatherman can get it right two weeks away it is a rare occaision. I think Algore is insane.

I got to thinking today - why is the govt so exercised about the flu? We’re always being told that the US consumes too much of the world’s resources - what better way than a pandemic to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions? The govt. should welcome the pandemic if it was being consistent.

Anyway, it snowed Saturday, it snowed yesterday and it is going to snow tomorrow and Thursday, into Friday....

He must be kicking himself now. If only he had guessed that we would see colder weather in the short term and predicted global cooling which would shorten growing seasons and lead to mass starvation, his taxing scam would be picking up steam now. He could have blamed that on Carbon Di-Oxide or the decrease in the frog population due to almost any evil human activities (e.g. listening to AM radio) which would have to be taxed. And it just gives Tipper more reason to call him a loser.

I'm not so sure about that. These stories are becoming more frequent in the drive by media including Scripps Howard news service and the NY Times.

The current economic crisis, of course, is the most severe in decades, and the Gallup poll is not the first to show its effects on public attitudes toward climate change. Every January, Pew conducts a poll to assess people’s “top priorities” for the government to address. This year, global warming came out on the very bottom of the list.

Cap and trade taxes will make everything manufactured and transported more expensive and kill any chance for private sector job growth with expensive energy.

Gore has an answer to this phenomena. He claims this is part of the process effecting climate change where there will be extremes both ways. So he’s taken the liberty to cover all the bases for his junk science. His climate coin is the same on both sides. He’s such an idiot. But the idiot has believers and followers. Course, so did Jim Jones.

Regardless, this is not about some idiots who have convinced themselves they can control the climate, and now seek to convince others that they really can. This is about controlling people and their behaviors.

Maybe. My prediction is this: as the data becomes incontravertible, the issue of Global Warming will simply disappear down the memory hole. it will simply never be referred to in the media again.

Good news, but not the whole story. For obvious political reasons, the drive against CO2 will continue, but be disconnected from the root global warming "scenario." It will simply become an eeevil pollutant that must be fought on its own merits.

Soon, it will seem as if we have always been against CO2 and no one will remember quite why it seems that way.

Sympathy for The Devil from Tennessee

Please allow me to introduce myself:
I’m a man of wealth and fame.
I made a movie everyone’s seen
About the cause of climate change.

I made a bundle off of all the lies;
When they’re revealed it’ll be too late.
I show it all around the world and say
There’s no more time left for debate.

Pleased to meet you,
Hope you guess my name.
But what’s puzzling you is the
Nature of my game.

I was there when they passed cap and trade
And I shouted out with glee.
I was counting all the carbon credits
And the money flowing to me.

I received a Nobel Prize for Peace,
And acclaim from Hollywood.
All the while, I’m raking in dough
And pretending to be good.

Pleased to meet you,
Hope you guess my name.
But what’s puzzling you is the
Nature of my game.

Just imagine the waters rising
Covering islands in the sea.
Just imagine malaria spreading
And people dying in the heat.

Think about the polar bears dying
From the loss of polar ice.
Don’t you agree that it’s mankind’s fault?
Say, “Yes,” and don’t think twice.

Pleased to meet you,
Hope you buy my line.
I’m not surprised that you’re scared;
It works every time.

One thing alone concerns me now,
A minor little flaw.
It’s that the earth’s been cooling off,
And the poles refuse to thaw.

I’ve got to make my money quick
Before the people are awakened.
I’ve got to get out of Dodge real soon
Before they see they’ve all been taken.

Pleased to meet you,
Guess you know by now.
I’ve been playing you, and I’ve
Got my millions now.

(Fade out…
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Turn off that microphone.
No, there’s no more debate.
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Don’t care about the science now,
The data’s all erased.
Ooh, ooh. Ooh, ooh.
Fingers in my ears,
I can’t hear you….)
