WILMINGTON, Del. -- Delaware Republican congressman Michael Castle is announcing that he's running for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Democrat Joe Biden last year after Biden was elected vice president.

In a brief, exclusive interview with The Associated Press before his news conference, Castle said he's running because he can do more for Delaware in the Senate than in the House.

He’s certainly better than Biden though.

Beau Biden, the VP’s son.

Anything is better than Biden.

Castle isn’t my idea of the kind of Republicans I would like to see elected, but nobody filling that mold could win in Delaware. I think it would be sweet for a Republican to take the seat Biden held for 32 years and was trying pass it on to his son.

That decision means he could face Biden's son, Delaware attorney general Beau Biden, who's weighing a bid for the Democratic nomination.

Like the first Biden wasn't freaking stupid enough, now we have his spawn coming on the scene.

I can see the family resemblence - he's plagiarizing his father's job. I hope Neil Kinnock's son gives a good speech.

Seems to me that a 70 year old, 9 termer should be resigning. He’s been in Washington too long already. Old RINO and young Dem reminds me too much of that last election & we all know how wonderful that was for the Pubbies!

Could you imagine? However, with Biden out ruining the country, maybe even Castle could win (he's really no my kind of Republican, checked pants).

Castle, even though a RINO, outpolls all the Dems. The Dhimmis will lose this seat.

I don’t know. Tom Carper beat Bill Roth primarily using Bill’s age against him. Mike is 70 and Beau is in his 30s, I think.

How DARE some Republican run for the Senate seat vacated by Joe Biden?

Doesn't he realize that Senate seat is reserved for VP's son?

I he so stupid as to not realize that the Delaware Democratic machine has already decided who will be the next Senator from Delaware?

Does he really believe that there is any need for an election?

/sarcasm

Roth collapsed twice at campaign events, giving voters ample reason to think he was ripe for retirement.

He passed away about two years later, proving the voters correct.

The common sense, logical part of me knows you are absolutely correct. However, there is another part of me that totally blames the mean spirited nature of Tom Carper and his campaign for Bill’s death.

I know that is totally illogical, highly emotional, and purely personal, but I adored Bill Roth, and have had a long standing personal dislike of Carper. Being in the same room with the man would literally make my skin crawl.

>>>And Delaware Freepers say what?<<<

I WILL NOT (I repeat) NOT support nor vote for Mike Castle!!!!!

RINO does not even come close to describing him for the past few years.

Want proof?

Check out his website - First - he claims to be an Independent. - Second - Check out his press releases, particularly the one on Cap ‘n Tax.

Can you believe he used Center for American Progress (yep - That ultra-liberal crew led by John Podesta - you know, the organization that Van Jones came from and went back to after Glenn Beck called him out - yeah, that’s the organization) to justify how much money and how many jobs Delaware would gain by the bill?

http://www.castle.house.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=134820

NO, I don’t think I will have anything further to do with him... Yes, I could go on and on pointing out other problems with him, but suffice to say that from the sound of callers on WGMD today following his announcement, Republican support will be limited.

LOL, you had to ask.....

>>>I adored Bill Roth<<<

I second that!

We have had some really Great Conservative Senators - John Williams, Cale Boggs, Bill Roth. I knew those three - wonderful, honest men. Castle is not even close to their caliber.

I never met John Williams and I didn’t know Cale really well, but I sure did know Bill. I have a VERY treasured photo of Bill and I with my then 4 month old daughter taken in Georgetown on Returns Day 1998.

Mike Castle is no Bill Roth. Nor is Tom Crapper for that matter, but that’s a whole other topic!!!
