Private property rights win a round in the NC House

Back in June we published an article about a land grab the State of North Carolina was attempting to make on land owned by Alcoa, Inc. You can get the background on this particular issue in that earlier article.

The N. C. Property Rights Coalition is reporting tonight (7-28-09) that a significant victory for private property owners in the state. By a vote of 8-6 the House Water Resources and Infrastructure Committee rejected a bill SB 967 that would have opened the door for the state to take over Alcoa's privately owned dams, powerhouses and other facilities on the Yadkin River.

The committee's action does not necessarily kill the bill, which has already passed the Senate, but it does deal it a severe blow unless some of the legislative leadership wished to run the bill anyway.

"While private property owners won a victory in today's committee vote, we realize this fight is far from over," Shanahan added. "We cannot assume that we have heard the last of the state's efforts to seize Alcoa's private property. The N.C. Property Rights Coalition will continue to keep a watchful eye on this and other private property issues throughout North Carolina."

This is the state that snatched the three falls land from a developer for some 36 million when it was offered to the state for around 7 million a year earlier. I do not expect to see anything intelligent from anyone here. In six short years we went from Helms to Dole to total crap!

He was at my college graduation. He did not speak, he was quite frail. Bob Dole gave the main address. However, Helms shook all the graduates’ hands.

Helms was so hated by many elitists, but the “little man” in NC warmed to him. NC has gone socialist because of its northern invasion. Much like VA.

What a disappointment to have Helms there, and Dole speak.
