With the stunning news of Alaska Governor Sarah Palins sudden resignation, it is easy to jump to the conclusion that there is "something else out there" that has forced her to make this decision. There might well be, but ever since her return to Alaska after her electoral defeat in November, it has been very clear that she has loathed the new dynamic that has greeted her there.
The recent Mark Sanford saga and other political scandals have trained us to assume the worst, but as a former campaign aide who remains close to Palin cautions, "Its a sad commentary when people jump to negative conclusions."
During her first year-and-a-half as governor, Palin seemingly could do no wrong as she frequently reached across the aisle to Democrats, racked up a string of high-profile legislative successes, and caught the eye of John McCain when she challenged the Republican presidential nominees views on drilling in ANWR during their first face to face meeting in February of 2008.
But her beloved Alaska has been anything but accommodating since the McCain/Palin campaigns electoral defeat in November. She has been under a constant barrage of attacks there from critics, who have been joined by many of the same people who had once been her political allies.

The Cuda is loose.
Liberals beware Poke at your risk, the Cuda Has very Sharp Teeth.
I am proud of her and support her. She is a great American.
I think Sarah has just turned, like a fed-up mama Bear, on her detractors. She has put things in order, she has left them in the hands of capable people, and she has now turned to face her enemies directly.
...and I think they are going to be sorry. We have smelled the fear in them for a long time. Good on her!
I believe she will assist others greatly in 2010, and will run herself in 2012...and she has my full support.
GO SARAH GO!
“Americans” can be proud. They have forced an honorable, decent woman from American politics. How dare she talk that way about the good old boys club in D.C.? Fart proudly America!!!
I hope the MSM keeps trashing Palin - it is becoming more and more ridiculous, it’s purpose more and more obvious to all Americans - and she will use it against them, and for her political benefit.
go get them Barracuda!
What public relations disasters would those be? And I suppose that she was supposed to sit in her gilded cage in Juneau and keep her mouth shut while the MSM and Letterman tore her family's reputation apart?
You got it, Jeff!
The upside of this gloomy day, the media will start taking pot shots at Slick willard.
No doubt you’ll get your wish....but it won’t matter anymore. But, most Americans still won’t get it.
LOL. I would be very careful.
‘...her entire announcement. It was honorable, it was direct...’
yes.....and it flowed naturally ...from her heart...not from a teleprompter.
God bless this good woman. She’s a patriot. I hope to have an opportunity to vote for her again.
Love the poster

From NewsBusters.org, June 9, 2009...
Seven months after Election Day, and the attacks on Sarah Palin keep coming.
On Monday, CBS's David Letterman on the "Late Show" shamelessly went after the Alaska governor and her family during his opening monologue, as well as in his "Top Ten" list.
Top Ten Highlights Of Sarah Palin's Trip To New York
10. Visited New York landmarks she normally only sees from Alaska
9. Laughed at all the crazy-looking foreigners entering the U.N.
8. Made moose jerky on Rachael Ray
7. Keyed Tina Fey's car
6. After a wink and a nod, ended up with a kilo of crack
5. Made coat out of New York City rat pelts
4. Sat in for Kelly Ripa. Regis couldn't tell the difference.
3. Finally met one of those Jewish people Mel Gibson's always talking about
2. Bought makeup from Bloomingdale's to update her "slutty flight attendant" look
1. Especially enjoyed not appearing on Letterman
"One awkward moment for Sarah Palin at the Yankee game, during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked-up by Alex Rodriguez."
Bet they won’t.
Ditto Mr. Head!
RE: TELL CBS WHAT YOU THINK!! THEY REALLY WANT TO KNOW!
That message was meant for everyone.
I'm fine with Mrs. Palin's resignation. Politically it'll probably be harmful - but it was the honorable thing to do if she is truly running for President. There was a certain Senator from Illinois who only 'served' a couple of months before starting his Presidential campaign. That was a shameful example of a 'public servant'.
Also, I presume its easier to criticize a sitting Administration as a 'free-agent', than as a public official... And who knows, at the rate things are going
the public might not want to wait until 2012 for the next change in Presidents... it might not be a bad idea to start campaigning 'early'...
