Unlike the EPA the FDA is not burdened by the need to show a finding of endangerment to health or welfare to regulate any substance purported to benefit one’s health; the mere claim alone shifts the burden of proof to the purveyor — it would be far easier to market the device as a novelty.

I once got stuck on KP cleaning a grease pit in a kitchen at an abandoned Army post our N.G. unit used for weekend target practice in Kingwood, W.Va.

You’d have to smoke a carton of filterless Camels to get the taste out of your mouth.

None of this is about health but about who decides what’s healthy or allowed; when the rulemakers get sick the rules will take a back seat.

Your point is that the Gubmint can do whatever the Hell it wants. They’re in charge until they get voted out or their is a violent revolution. :-) Whichever comes first.

1. The EPA lied about SHS. They lied last week about Global Warning.

2. The FDA is going to have a hard time explaining to the citizens why they allow the sale of tobacco with 4,000 chemicals, dozens of which are carcinogens, while banning the sale of a significantly reduced harm product that hurts nobody and helps millions.

Even libs and smoker haters will look at them sideways.

Big Pharma and Big Tobacco won’t like it. If nothing else, this will prove to fellow tax paying, voting citizens that Tobacco Control activists, Big Pharma and Gubmint don’t give a rat’s ass about Public Health.

It’s all about the money and control.

“None of this is about health but about who decides what’s healthy or allowed.”

I realize that. It’s all about money.

“There are many set to gain financially from the demise of the e-cigarette.

These include:

*the huge pharmecutical corporations (Big Pharm) who sell the nicotine replacement aids recently proved to be so ineffective (1.6% when measured at 12 months abstinence)...

*the public health groups who have received tens of millions of dollars in funding from those same pharmecutical groups...

*America’s largest tobacco company, Philip Morris, which will see the safe alternatives to its lethal products removed from the market.

Perhaps this is also why millions of dollars have been spent lobbying for the Tobacco Bill by Philip Morris – which has spent more money lobbying this year than all the other tobacco companies in the US put together.

In contrast, those who support the e-cigarette – researchers, smokers and the very new Electronic Cigarette Association – have little money. The campaign against the electronic cigarette has been forced to take place on forums and on blog posts, on You Tube and on Twitter – the very places which provided the upswell of support which gave you your historic victory.”

Remember when a carton of cigarettes was $8.00 at the commissary?

just mention the word

Heck, try actually using the product.

Your point about “conservatives” is well taken, ultimately, if somewhat of an unpopular activity is demonised, what next.

One point of the antitabak jihad has been that if the product is used as intended it kills people.

Any other product you can think of that does essentially that? HAHAHA!

then ... BAN THE STUFF!!!

however the only thing MORE ADDICTIVE than tobacco... is TOBACCO TAX REVENUE!!

If it’s so dangerous ... BAN IT!!! just be ready to see your federal taxes QUADRUPLE, and your State taxes go up even MORE!!!

Want to thank you both for turning me on to e-cigs!

I've gone from a 2 pack a day smoker to just a couple real cigs a day without even trying, with e-cigs.

Since this discussion last month, I am now the proud owner of both a 901 and a 510. As a matter of fact, I just got the passthrough for the 510 today and am loving it. (I have the personal charger on order.)

It's taken me a little while and research to get the kinks out of how I handle things with e-cigs, batteries, filling my own cartridges, finding the right menthol, etc, but e-cigs are absolutely awesome!

If you've got an e-cig ping list, please put me on it.

Also, just to let you know, there is another really nice board for discussing and doing research at Vapor Talk. And unlike that other message board, this one is free to post questions to. Again, many thanks!

I believe that in this particular situation, we're dealing with the potential displacement of a centuries long institution by this novelty, electronic cigarettes. When you're up against that kind of momentum, you're bound to encounter some kind of resistance, whether it be from the private sector, or government acting on its behalf. An electronic cigarette is the way of the future, though, have no doubt.

I bought the 501 from http://simplyecigs.com/catalog_details.cfm?c=6

Great service and quick turn around. Plus the sit has a lot of information I didn’t know.

I used to have the 901 but like the manual option of the 501 much better.

“I just got the passthrough for the 510 today and am loving it.” What’s a passthrough?

“I just got the passthrough for the 510 today and am loving it.” What’s a passthrough?

This is a passthrough It uses a USB port on your computer to give you an unlimited (but physically connected) battery for your e-cig. When I am sitting at the computer, I connect to it, rather than use the battery because it never runs out of steam.

I also have a portable recharger, which allows me to recharge on the move. Looks like a skinny pack of cigarettes, but once you charge it, it will recharge batteries without an electrical connection.

If you are in California, buy it soon because there is a bill that could make e-cigs illegal in 2010 if Schwarzenegger doesn't veto it!

I went thru several models, 401, 901, 801, until I finally found nirvana with the Prodigy using an 801 atomizer. 5 volts of power and dripping is the only way to go. You don’t need cartridges which eliminates all the fiddlyness.

Finding the right equipment is key.
