He was a two pack a day smoker, than became a zealot. I thought tobacco was a killer. How is he still alive?

RJ Reynolds probably slipped him a couple mil to do this.

But the device, which is sold over the Internet and at select mall kiosks, needs to be tested by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before it is deemed safe for general use, Lautenberg wrote in a letter to the FDA on Monday.

Translation: Lautenberg wants more tax revenue from this product.

For too long, Americans have been conditioned to believe that all Nazis wear gray uniforms with red armbands bearing swastikas. Those Nazis are all dead, but others have taken their place. They still worship the state, detest personal liberty, and claim to love mankind and nature, as did their predecessors. They will “progress” in the same directions, as well.

How is that distinction even relevant? Smoking has been banned from ALL aircraft, not just commercial planes.

Are you series? They're actually so deluded think they can tell you not to smoke in your own plane? < facepalm >

Why not? They are also banning it from all “places of employment” which could very well be your home. When you hire a plumber, your house now becomes a place of employment.

That’s not true.

That going too far. I’d ignore them.

Your gratitude would seem misplaced, since eliminating smoking from aircraft enabled the airlines to drastically reduce the amount of fresh air entering the cabin, thereby ensuring that if there is a bug aboard, you are far more likely to be exposed to it.

At least when the smokers were at the back of the bus (so to speak), the driver had to keep those windows open. Now we all get to inhale each other’s halitosis, BO and whatever else was brought aboard. Yay!

Which works until they begin enforcing it via the barrell of the government guns. And that is their only recorse in the long term.

How are they supposed to know if you smoke in your own plane?

FAA inspections or customs or any number of their armed agents.

No idea. He's the second oldest person in the Senate at 85 years old. Smokes must not have hurt him too badly!

"Ive had my ecig for about a month now - and I’m down to just 2 cigs a day in the morning vs my 2.5 packs a day a month ago. Same goes for the wife to."

Two questions, if you don't mind:

1. Which brand did you go for? There are many e-cigs out there today, and I am concerned with the availability of replacement cartridges..

2. Did you and your wife each buy one or do you share the same one?

I’d like to see a little more discussion on the different brands also. Seems like most are basically the same. Then there the cartridges vs. the liquid.

I’m using the Liberty Stix brand, expensive but after a week I’m down to a pack a day of cigs and one cartridge. Looking to eventually knock out the cigs.

Thanks for the input!

Actually that's the cheapest starter kit I've seen, at $50. The other ones I looked at were $150. I haven't yet compares the cost of cartridges to see how those stack up.

“Your gratitude would seem misplaced...”

I don’t think so. I had to work in that smoky environment. Besides, ask a commercial aircraft mechanic who worked back then. One mechanic showed us the thick tar from cigarette smoke that accumulated in air vents, around the moving parts of aircraft doors, etc. It was disgusting.

Pilots, flight attendants, and most passengers fought for years to ban smoking on aircraft. Surveys conducted by airlines in the 80’s revealed that fewer than 20% of passengers were smokers. Besides, I know that many of the smokers preferred to sit in the non-smoking section of the aircraft and go to the smoking section for a smoke during a flight.

Airlines mix fresh air with recirculated air now to save money and improve energy efficiency. The toxicity in airplane air is a combination of jet fuel, hydraulic fluid leaks, engine lubricant oil, cleaning compounds, and pesticides.

Just a few examples of some private airlines who permit smoking...

“Whether you can light up or not is up to the individual plane owner or operator. NetJets, for one, doesn’t place any restrictions on smoking on their aircraft (just wait for the no smoking light to turn off.) If you’ve arranged your flight through a charter broker, be sure to ask the flight crew whether smoking is permissible, as the rules can vary according to the plane owner’s preference.”
http://jets.halogenguides.com/articles/1046-the-dos-and-don-ts-of-private-flying-etiquette

“While many aircraft are designated “No-Smoking,” and cigar and pipe smoking are never permitted, many jets do allow cigarette smoking on board. Please notify your Charter Coordinator in advance so that he or she can dispatch a plane that will accommodate your needs. In certain cases, there may be a special charge associated with purifying the air after you deplane. Your Charter Coordinator can advise you as to any additional charges.”
