More than one in five of all children in the United States are Hispanic – a significant jump from 29 years ago when only about 9 percent of children were Latino, according to a Pew Hispanic report released today.
The study, called "Latino Children: A majority are U.S.-Born offspring of Immigrants," states that more than half of the nation's 16 million Latino children are now "second generation," which means they are the U.S.-born children of at least one foreign-born parent. In California the number of second generation Latino children is 62 percent.

It goes beyond this too unfortunately. The “fight culture” that is being sold to our kids today, is very destructive. There have been movies out that glamorize beating others to a pulp. You’re not a real man if you can’t take getting beat to a pulp yourself.
I saw a report the other night, that clubs are having serious problems with groups fighting outside on the way in. And once inside, it’s still a problem.
This stuff is being programmed into our kids.
While Brad Pitt goes on his merry way to making more tens of millions for his next flick, young kids are being killed and seriously injured as a result of his participation in “Fight Club”. He’s not the only one of course. There are other examples out there too.
Then we have our elected officials trying to destroy this nation from the top down too.

If they assimilate, it won’t be a problem. So far, there is evidence that they likely will.
Why do you think so many Mexicans come here in the first place? If Mexico offered Mexicans everything they desired, good jobs with good pay, good schools, good medical care, high standard of living, etc., why would they pack up everything and move to another country which offered them the same things. Most first generation Mexicans who are living here still have family and friends back in Mexico. I'm sure many of these Mexicans would seriously consider moving back to their ancestor's homeland, assuming the United States and Mexicio both offered them opportunities, benefits, and lifestyles of equal comparison.

The evidence I’ve seen suggests that your story is not that unusual and that in about three generations, Hispanic people assimilate. It’s why some Hispanics have to take Spanish classes to learn Spanish. And one can look at the show Dora the Explorer two ways. Yes, it has a Hispanic lead with overtly brown eyes and they use some Spanish words and have some characters that speak Spanish but the reality is that most of the show is in English, Dora speaks unaccented English, and she’s essentially assimilated.
I was going to respond by saying that the American Graffiti type atmosphere continued to exist along Van Nuys Boulevard up until the mid 1980s, at least the middle class apple pie America part of it. I think that might be stretching it a bit. It probably did last up until about 1980, but like you say, that is splitting hairs.
I grew up in the Valley and know first hand what you mean. I see neighborhoods that I grew up in that now look like third world hell holes....just one of many reasons I moved but unfortunately it isn't much better here.
I dunno, I don't have the answers but something has to give soon, it's gonna be an interesting ride to say the least :(
The South Africa situation was a lot like the Vietnam and Cambodia situations. The left got their way and things caved in afterward. There! Fixed.

I have to disagree. There may be evidence that they'll eventually assimilate, but there's also ample evidence that they aren't and that they won't.
We didn't print government forms, including ballots in Italian, French, Polish, Hungarian etc, during the last great immigration boom. If you can't read English when you vote, no problem, someone will give you a Spanish-language ballot and directions. That's a future recipe for disaster.
Plus, none of those immigrants had a plethora of native-language entertainment options. Currently, there are two massive Spanish language national networks, that have beaten NBC in weekly ratings this last year. That's in addition to smaller, regional Spanish-language networks in CA and FL as well as every English-Language network simulcasting Spanish language audio for all their programs.
We seriously risk the Balkinization of several parts of this country. The Hispanics may end up assimilating, but I'd hardly call it likely at this point.
And in case anyone cares, my daughters have blonde hair and blue eyes and qualify, through my wife’s side, to be in the Daughters of the American Revolution. My grandfather, originally from Scotland, entered the United States illegally from Canada to secure a job and then entered again legally (and he traveled with other people who did the same thing) and stayed. My grandfather loved America, though, and always said that if he loved Scotland, he would have stayed there. I wish more Hispanic immigrants had that perspective.
I was stationed at Camp Pendleton the first time in early 1982. I wasn't back again until late 1998. I couldn't believe the difference in just those 16(ish) years. Basing my judgment on purely anecdotal evidence, I'd estimate that the Hispanic population at least tripled.
