She claims she never read Marshall's post last week and had heard the line from a friend who did not mention reading it in Marshall's blog.HEARD the phrase? Her friend just happened to quote it verbatim and she wrote down EXACTLY what the friend said? And through that process, Dowd managed to get a word-for-word transcript less one small tweak? Holy billion monkeys, Batman, will she "write" Shakespeare next week? Even Pelosi could come up with a better excuse than this.

"The error appeared in Dowd's Sunday column" Error? Error?
error : an act involving an unintentional deviation from truth or accuracy.
This was no "unintentional deviation" by MoDo. In fact, it couldn't have been more intentional.

Maureen Dowd has sent the NYTPicker this comment on today’s accusations that she may have plagiarized a portion of her Sunday column from Joshua Micah Marshall of Talking Points Memo:
josh is right. I didn’t read his blog last week, and didn’t have any idea he had made that point until you informed me just now.
i was talking to a friend of mine Friday about what I was writing who suggested I make this point, expressing it in a cogent — and I assumed spontaneous — way and I wanted to weave the idea into my column.
but, clearly, my friend must have read josh marshall without mentioning that to me.
we’re fixing it on the web, to give josh credit, and will include a note, as well as a formal correction tomorrow.

And look at the single change she made in the plagiarized copy - she virtually penned in “Bush did it.” You just can’t make this stuff up, it’s too low to imagine if you’re sane. You just have to wait and observe the Leftists crawling around enacting it - and the liberals crawling right after them in the trails they leave behind.

I had a columnist copy one of my posts also. When I contacted him he couldn't care less. I was more happy that my ideas got out then I was sad for being plagiarized

Something along these lines was used by the Boston Globe to silence conservative columnist Jeff Jacoby for four months during the 2000 election.
Somehow, I doubt the same standards will apply to the liberal columnist, even if the NYT didn't own the Boston Globe at the time.

The error appeared in Dowd's Sunday column, in which she criticized the Bush administration's use of interrogation methods in the run-up to the Iraq war. Too funny! The crAP calling plagerism by a NYT columnist an "error".
Calling Helen Thomas a journalist is an error. Plagerism by a well-seasoned, elderly writer is not an error, it is the gravest crime a writer can be accused of.
