And it goes all the way back to Jeff Bell in 1978 when he knocked of sitting senator Case in the primary.

Goes back well before that. After Congressman Charles Sandman, longtime conservative GOP leader beat Gov. Cahill in the 1973 primary, the RINOs (liberals, actually) stabbed him in the back. Since Watergate was going on Charley would have lost, but with support by the party he would have run a closer race.

Thanks, Sulla. I forgot about that. And I should have remembered in as much as that primary was my first involvement in GOP affairs. I was born and raised in Cahill’s home town(Collingswood) and gave out literature for Sandman going door to door in the primary.

And I remember full well the local Camden County GOP giving out slips of paper ( called by the charming name "CUT LISTS")on election day in November with all the local republican candidates listed but the top of the ticket BLANK.

What a swell bunch those NJ republicans. And they wonder why they are losers!!

RINO Governors do tend to damage their party.

Lonegan was polling well against Corzine too last time I checked.

“”I’m the only one proposing to cut taxes,” Christie told reporters in a teleconference call. “He (Lonegan) admitted this week to the Philadelphia Inquirer that his plan would raise taxes 70% and 75% on senior citizens. His plan is foolish and bizarre. It’s not a conservative idea. It’s the kind of idea you would normally hear from Democrats. “

I would like to know what that’s about.

This about Lonegan is excellent:

http://lonegan.com/Why_He_Will_Win.aspx

“. Steve Lonegan has the executive experience, the conservative philosophy and the political skills to win this election and be a great Governor for New Jersey.

Steve first attracted attention in 1995 when his aggressive campaign defeated a powerful and longtime Democratic incumbent. Because Bogota was a Democratic town, critics predicted that Lonegan would be a one-term Mayor.Mayor Lonegan’s conservative philosophy helped Republicans keep council control for ELEVEN STRAIGHT ELECTIONS even though this year Bogota voted 64% for Barack Obama and 66% for Frank Lautenberg. And in all three elections when Steve Lonegan ran for Mayor, every single Republican up and down the ballot carried Bogota.”

“He (Lonegan) admitted this week to the Philadelphia Inquirer that his plan would raise taxes 70% and 75% on senior citizens”

.
Christie is playing the misleading statistics game.

I found this article:
http://www.philly.com/inquirer/local/nj/20090429_Christie_s_tax_attacks_don_t_go_unanswered.html

Lonegan is proposing a flat rate of 2.5% income tax instead of the current progressive income tax ranging from 1.4% to 8.9%. His goal is to ultimately bring the flat rate down to 1.5%.

I quickly scanned my 2008 NJ Income tax instructions
and it seems what is omitted in the article is that NJ allows seniors 2 standard deductions (=$2,000.00), not one.

NJ also has a long list of exempt income which includes Social Security (unlike the Fed), military pensions, disability benefits, etc. In addition, for those whose income is < $100,000, there is a pension exclusion ranging from $10,000 - $20,000 depending upon one’s filing status.

my apologies....I will NEVER forget Lonegans attacks on Schundler and Forrester during last elections primaries. And now his only campaign song is to attack Christie and conveniently forgetting Corzine. This is just a retread of 2005. I do agree with most of Lonegans positions...but will never pull the lever for him.

I guess that makes me loneganfatiegued.

Lonegan is getting backchannel financial support from the Dems according to a local news article. The Dems know they will lose to Christie, but can beat Lonegan. Lonegan is not as pure as everyone believes. He is so anti-illegal immigration that he hired a few to work on his house.

I'm totally for Lonegan. Christie is just another establishment hack whose ilk have led the NJ GOP into the political wasteland.

Dump Corzine. Elect Lonegan!

If Lonegan wins the primary, the RINO left has apparently already promised to run a 3rd party candidate. They do all they can to sandbag viable Conservatives in NJ.

Indeed. Conservatives have two enemies in NJ--the Democrats and the liberal Republicans.

That said, a guy like Lonegan who won for mayor in a majority Democrat town, could win against a slimebag like Corzine.

It's time....

RINO Governors do tend to damage their party.

And not by accident, either. They view their enemies as the Conservative base of their own party, not the Democrats.

I am not pimping anything. That is a default GoDaddy parking page.

Boy I guess the Lonegan folks still are nasty, eh? Btw, is the media guy for Lonegan still Rick Shaftan? If so he is as lousy now as he was when I worked with Lonegan--the ads I saw on WCBS yesterday have half the graphics running off the screen. All you could see was "...NEGAN GOVERN...". All the text completely cut off. Just pathetic.

Let Rick know there is something called the NTSC "safe area". they teach about it in Videography 101. I can't believe Lonegan spent $50,000 for those ads.

yes...I sat thru 2 debates (during 2005) and all he did was attack Bret and occaisionally Forrester. He conveniently ignored the previous 4 years of Dem control/McGreevey/Codey/Legislature/future Corzine/etc...Plus EVERYONE knew then that he had NO chance of winning (same as now)...so what was the point?

Thanks for answering.
I was so disappointed that we didn't elect Schundler.
I still believe he would've been very good for NJ.

I too have worked with Lonegan, and would agree with that noob's characterization of him as a "pigheaded boy scout". He has also been disloyal to someone I know who had helped him tirelessly for 10 years. It was appalling. I hope he's changed, but my impressions of him were mostly negative.
