Special Agent Larry Carr of the Seattle office of the FBI has developed some interesting theories in the case of the iconic skyjacker known as D.B. Cooper. Carr, who took over the case two years ago, believes it's possible Cooper took his name from the French-Canadian comic book character Dan Cooper. Carr says that's important because the books were never translated into English, and could mean he spent time overseas. This fits with Carr's theory that Cooper had been in the Air Force.

I think he is alive.

His plan was too well thought out.

Sans execution errors or external problems, his plan probably worked.

You never know, D.B. Cooper might just be one of our fellow Freepers.

I’m not telling.

or he coulda went splat and the native wildlife got a free meal
it happened before my time so all i can say is that the cooper stunt was absolutely insane, even the most experienced military jumpers would have a hard time surviving what he did.

No, I really think he is alive. His plan was good and I think he had the training (as the OP posits) to get the job done.

Morrison and Hoffa are quite dead. And, jeeze, did you see the Oliver Stone masturbation on Morrison? My God, I was seasick by the time it was over!

When people type things like:

in the aviation industry, which was in its infancy in 1971.

It is hard to take them seriously.

My thoughts exactly. I would have guessed he transposed the second 1 and the 7 in the year had I not known the era that the “D.B. Cooper” caper happened.

D.B Cooper was 43 when we first heard his name
47 miles away from where he fell down to his fame
But he told me that the hardest part wasn’t really jumping out of the plane
It was spending the night watching those lights
Shine through the pouring rain

They had a man hunt that next morning like nothing I had ever seen
I was only 8 years old at the time watching on a TV screen
They were saying he was never gonna make it now, now that daylight had set in
But later that night they were shining those lights
Down on the mountain again

Not far away from the City of Roses
They all watched those lights up through the rain
For D.B. Cooper

The cops blocked off all the exit roads and turned loose all of the hounds
They even dragged the river up a couple of times to see if he had drowned
With all those men working overtime they swore they would brin him down
But a parachute and a few hundred dollars
Was all that they ever found

Not far away from the City of Roses
They all watched those lights up through the rain

Now some people say that he died up there somewhere in the rain and the wind
Other people say that he got away but his girlfriend did him in
The law men say if he is out there someday they’re gonna bring him in
As for me, I hope they never see
D.B. Cooper again

Not far away from the City of Roses
A light shined from a house out in the rain
It was D.B. Cooper
Drinking champagne
