Collins says she'll oppose Geithner

Senator Susan Collins, the moderate Republican from Maine, just announced that she will vote today against the nomination of Timothy Geithner as treasury secretary.

While acknowledging Geithner's experience and expertise, Collins said on MSNBC that his failure to pay self-employment taxes while working at the International Monetary Fund -- including for two years after an audit pointed out the lapse -- disqualifies him.

This woman is despicable. She KNOWS he’ll be confirmed anyway, and she’ll trumpet this meaningless vote forever when she’s called out for being a freakin RINO.

Watch and see.

I hope the Reps pound in the fact that the Dhims are showing their contempt for the citizenry by approving someone who would be in jail for what he did if he was one of “the little people”.

Now she grows a little common sense?

Whoa... Collins actually takes OUR side on a "contraversal" Democrat nomination? Is she feeling okay?

Tom Coburn and Jeff Sessions vote for Hilderbeast, but Susan Collins opposes Geithner, and Arlen Specter is against Holder.

Look, we have to take what we can get, one battle at a time. It is possible Collins’s constituents are as ticked-off about Geithner as many other Americans are. Let's not send a message to RINOS that they may as well NEVER vote the conservative way because we won't bother to give them credit when they do.

Freepers, call your senators and tell them. “No on Geithner!”

If I didn’t “know better” I would have to conclude from this unabated stupidity that there is a much LARGER plan at work. I cannot believe that these people in DC are REALLY this moronic. They MUST - MUST - I repeat MUST - be attempting to elicit civil unrest. They could not possibly have selected such an outrageous candidate to run the Treasury -especially in the midst of crisis spawned by a moral vacuum - unless they wanted to provoke a Jacobin like response from Americans.

I called Martinez today and he’s voting against Geithner too. I told his office he better vote against that socialistic “economic stimulus” plan too. She told me he hasn’t revealed how he’ll vote on that.

Since he’s a RINO I’m not holding out much hope.

She doesn’t, she just wants this vote to say ‘I voted against Obama...(once)...’ when her next election comes up.

When a dino is conservative they get called a “conservative”

In order for the "no" votes to succeed, you'd not only need EVERY Republican to oppose the nomination, but 9 Democrats as well.

“This woman is despicable. “

Sad but predictable. Someone does the right thing and a freeper whines; you should give them a pat on the back, not the back of your hand.

Save the ‘despicable’ for the senators of both parties who vote FOR Holder, Geitner, Solis, etc.

“I figured somebody would leap to her defense on this.” I am defending her vote on this, not her whole record.

“Sorry, she’s got hundreds of votes ...” - Yeah, but we are talking about THIS VOTE - Geitner. She’s voting the right way.

Don’t call a politician ‘despicable’ for voting the right way. Save it for when she votes the WRONG way - And I’m sure her RINO ways dont escape your eagle eye so you won’t have to wait long for her to disappoint you next.

I agree about Collins’s motives, but why belabor that point right now? We need every senator we can possibly get to vote, “No” on Geithner. Your post just angers people when we need them to focus on this particular issue.

If all Republicans vote against Geithner, I think he’ll be withdrawn. This is a great mid-term issue for Republicans, if they can pull their heads out. Senator X voted for a tax cheat who committed fraud and broke criminal laws, the economy still stinks because of all the crooks running things, part of the Culture of Corruption, etc.
