Senator Susan Collins, the moderate Republican from Maine, just announced that she will vote today against the nomination of Timothy Geithner as treasury secretary.
While acknowledging Geithner's experience and expertise, Collins said on MSNBC that his failure to pay self-employment taxes while working at the International Monetary Fund -- including for two years after an audit pointed out the lapse -- disqualifies him.

Hogs on the wing!
This woman is despicable. She KNOWS he’ll be confirmed anyway, and she’ll trumpet this meaningless vote forever when she’s called out for being a freakin RINO.
Watch and see.
I hope the Reps pound in the fact that the Dhims are showing their contempt for the citizenry by approving someone who would be in jail for what he did if he was one of “the little people”.
Now she grows a little common sense?
Tom Coburn and Jeff Sessions vote for Hilderbeast, but Susan Collins opposes Geithner, and Arlen Specter is against Holder.
:: twilight zone music ::
WE have a winnah!!! Bingo..
LOL. I just got that comment. A little slow today due to a nasty cold.
Bart.
The No votes are spread out just enough for Zero to get all his posse.
Translation: “Vote for Sale”
Freepers, call your senators and tell them. “No on Geithner!”
RINOs have to pretend to be something other than loyal Democrats sometimes, though I wouldn’t have expect it from Collins.
Do you listen to Mike Church. If you don't you should.
If I didn’t “know better” I would have to conclude from this unabated stupidity that there is a much LARGER plan at work. I cannot believe that these people in DC are REALLY this moronic. They MUST - MUST - I repeat MUST - be attempting to elicit civil unrest. They could not possibly have selected such an outrageous candidate to run the Treasury -especially in the midst of crisis spawned by a moral vacuum - unless they wanted to provoke a Jacobin like response from Americans.

(chuckle)
Collins listening to her constituents...oh man, now thats funny!
(you were trying being funny, right?)
I called Martinez today and he’s voting against Geithner too. I told his office he better vote against that socialistic “economic stimulus” plan too. She told me he hasn’t revealed how he’ll vote on that.
Since he’s a RINO I’m not holding out much hope.
I’m no fan of Collins but it’s pretty sad when a RINO woman has more balls than Coburn, Corynyn, McCain, etc.
She doesn’t, she just wants this vote to say ‘I voted against Obama...(once)...’ when her next election comes up.
Does this phony actually think she’s kidding anyone with this obvious throw away vote? Since when has she become concerned about a display of conservative bona fides...fake or otherwise?
As this thread is already demonstrating, yes she does, and yes it will.
When a rino is liberal they get called a “moderate”
When a dino is conservative they get called a “conservative”
Has anyone ever heard of a democrat being called a moderate?
Ok...then why doesn't Coburn, Cornyn, and/or McCain do it too?
I'm fairly certain they are and she knows it.
Because its Monday.
All the time. Anyone to the right of Stalin is a "moderate". Clinton was called a moderate.
That's the only trait that distinguishes them from Democrats.
No need to ask that question. The answer is plain to see.
Hell, yes! Every day CNN, MSNBC and the NYT call creatures like Pelosi, Reid and Schumer 'moderates.'
Has she been listening to RUSH?
naughty naughty
WOW! Is she grinding off the RINO horn?
WAY TO GO! Another Republican Senator found their spine!
“This woman is despicable. “
Sad but predictable. Someone does the right thing and a freeper whines; you should give them a pat on the back, not the back of your hand.
Save the ‘despicable’ for the senators of both parties who vote FOR Holder, Geitner, Solis, etc.
“She doesnt, she just wants this vote to say I voted against Obama...(once)... when her next election comes up.”
This won’t help her anymore. Maine has succumbed for good to Obama.
A liberal Democrat was called a ‘conservative’ - yesterday - just for being only 90% ADA instead of 100% ADA liberal.
I figured somebody would leap to her defense on this.
Sorry, she’s got hundreds of votes undermining her own party’s President, her own parties base, and this is just a laughable attempt for her to get some ‘cover’ from those of us that follow her RINOism.
ABSOLUTELY! And it doesnt matter if its a Dem or GOP Senator. This is not a partisan issue. No tax cheat should be head of the IRS - PERIOD.
She’s not that bright, as her voting record demonstrates.
Let me guess, he is too conservative for her?
“I figured somebody would leap to her defense on this.” I am defending her vote on this, not her whole record.
“Sorry, shes got hundreds of votes ...” - Yeah, but we are talking about THIS VOTE - Geitner. She’s voting the right way.
Don’t call a politician ‘despicable’ for voting the right way. Save it for when she votes the WRONG way - And I’m sure her RINO ways dont escape your eagle eye so you won’t have to wait long for her to disappoint you next.
I didn’t call her ‘despicable’ for her vote.
I said she was ‘despicable’.
If you want to argue about this, keep my words in context.
‘I agree about Collinss motives, but why belabor that point right now?’
I didn’t belabor the point. I noted she’s ‘despicable’.
She is, in my honest opinion.
As for ‘why’...psssst. This is Free Republic. Its an internet bulletin board focused on ‘politics’ and ‘politicians’....(chuckle)
Why...thats a hoot friend.
That’s not despicable at all. She’s making the correct vote; her true intent for doing so isn’t readily discernible. Maybe if enough of her colleagues come to their senses he’ll get rejected.
This guy worked for Bush under Paulson.
But, it would be nice to have a guy who diligently overlooked his fiduciary responsibility on voluntary repatriation of income to be put in charge of the IRS.
I’d rather see him approved, but only with Dem votes.
Let them hang the albatross around their own necks.
Exactly. Good post.
NO ON GEITHNER!!! No on tax cheats.
One more time, for the reading challenged.
I find Collins DESPICABLE.
I did not say her vote was ‘DESPICABLE’.
I do believe her vote is CYNICAL.
Now, if that doesn’t make it ‘crystal clear’...let me know, and I’ll type S..L...O...W...E...R...
If all Republicans vote against Geithner, I think he’ll be withdrawn. This is a great mid-term issue for Republicans, if they can pull their heads out. Senator X voted for a tax cheat who committed fraud and broke criminal laws, the economy still stinks because of all the crooks running things, part of the Culture of Corruption, etc.
