I was trying to read his lips, too, and I was pretty sure Mr. Bush said, “God Bless you.”
I meant that as a term-of-art. He fails to move his lips slightly more than the average Texan of his age and apparent health.
So do I. I mumble because I can't hear myself because I spent too many years around jets and loud weapons.
"Articulation requires moving ones lips". "Projection requires speaking from the diaphram".
I guess they don't teach those classes anymore.

Without getting married again.
I'm sure that it wasn't his jet fighter pilot days in the 60s or loud firearms that effected his hearing.
Good enough excuse for the President, good enough for me.
Thanks!

I liken GW and Reagan to the old-school no-compromise hard-line dad that every kid gripes about to his peanut gallery friends at school, but never gives a thought to whether that same “mean old SOB” [NOT!] would be out of bed, down the stairs, across the house, ball bat ready to swing, and in the face of a would-be intruder before the first shard of breaking glass could make it to the floor.
We bit@h about them while we live under their roofs all the while secretly praying that we grow up to be that strong, self-sacrificing, and loyal to those who count on us.
There was a time not long ago when “contemporary historians” could find little good to say about Reagan but were all agush over incumbent Bubba. Funny what a decade +/- of hindsight will do, isn't it. ;) It'll take time, but the smart @$$es and pencil necks will come to miss their tough old man.
He was awsome in Texas yesterday afternoon... the old Bush we all loved, all over the room hugging and kissing and having his picture taken with attendees.
