WASHINGTON -- U.S. President-elect Barack Obama said on Sunday he will take a new approach toward Iran that will emphasize respect for the Iranian people and spell out what the United States expects of its leaders.
"Iran is going to be one of our biggest challenges," Obama said in an interview with ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos."
Obama said he was concerned about the Islamic republic's support of the Lebanese Shi'ite movement Hezbollah and about Iran's nuclear enrichment, which he said could trigger a Middle East arms race.
In a shift from President George W. Bush's policies, Obama has said he would seek much broader engagement with Iran.

Sanctions and bribes won’t work. But we must repeat the same mistakes over and over again. They’ll take our money and continue with their plans.

"Obama doesnt know what the heck hes doing and the enemy knows this."That's why the enemy supported him so enthusiastically. They know a mark when they see one. Bill Clinton made the same mistake with Yasser that Obama is about to make with Ahmanutjob: beliving he's smart enough and slick enough to cut a favorable deal and lock a legacy. In Yasser's case, Bubba thought to outcon a con with a LOT more years of experience under his belt than Bubba had ever experienced.
In Barack Hussein's case, it'll be because he (and he IS a master con artist) believes he has the brains (he doesn't, not by a long shot) and the smoothness (it's Iran - he DOESN'T) to charm the leader of a country that had intrigue and cloaked tactics down to such a science that they turned it into a board game two thousand years ago (the Shah's game, now known as chess). Iran has it's own interests of Empire it's looking out for...Obama has HIS own interests at heart, not America's. Gotta respect Persia on that score. Barack Hussein is toast. Thereby, so are we.

We all know Comrade 0bama is a naive fool or worse, but let's not forget that our current illustrious President said as recently as last month on December 5th that America "would not permit Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon", and considering that Iran's nuclear program is full speed ahead, that means that George W. Legacy has exactly eight days to not only talk the talk, but walk the walk.
It was in 2001 that GWB declared that we were faced with an 'Axis of Evil', comprised of Iraq, Iran and North Korea, now here it is 7+ years later and while Iraq was in fact liberated from Saddam Hussein, the sad and ugly truth is that Bush hasn't done f--k all to rein in the other two legs of that notorious 'Axis', unless you count all that puffed up, chest thumping talk as more than just talk.
Tehran and Pyongyang are laughing their asses off at us, you can bet the rent on that.

It’s amazing that this buffoon hasn’t gotten over the marxist/socialist/flower-child ‘Can’t we all get along?’ mentality. Most of us move beyond this when we begin to experience the real world. This is either one naive moron or he’s for real and we’d better begin to sit up and take notice.

This is the same crap as when he told the interviewer last week that ‘there are some really dangerous people’ at Gitmo.

It was in 2001 that GWB declared that we were faced with an 'Axis of Evil'...
Refresh my memory: didn't George Bush say, just after 9-11, that "they were going to get the people who did this" [the 9-11 attacks]?? Meaning Osama bin Laden, Mullah Omar, and the Taliban?
Yet 7+ years later, bin Laden still hasn't been caught, Omar is still free and laughing, and the Taliban still hasn't been defeated. STILL.
Oh, and the Iraq War wasn't a distraction.
To: Fennie
Obama’s new Iran approach... I don’t trust this communist Muslim as far as I could throw him. His “new approach” will be clearly of an Iran friendly, terrorist loving nature.
To: yorkie01
The reason why he hs not "moved on" is because Obamessiah is a September 10'th 2001 man who staunchly refuses to believe the reality that America and the world are living in a September 12th and beyond world!
Because of his INEXPERIENCE and foolish/dangerous idealism America and the world is at risk and a lot of people are going to get hurt and die before Obamessiah's rule is over.

Your memory needs no refreshing FRiend, that's exactly what he said.
Yet 7+ years later, bin Laden still hasn't been caught, Omar is still free and laughing, and the Taliban still hasn't been defeated. STILL.
All valid points.
Oh, and the Iraq War wasn't a distraction.
The motives behind the liberation of Iraq are probably always going to be a matter of speculation, Saddam was in fact subject to the Clinton Administration's change of policy with their 'Iraq Regime Change Act' that was passed prior to GWB arriving in Washington, and happily signed into law by Emperor Billigula. The fact is, GWB did nothing that was not already authorized under U.S. law, enacted by his predecessors. The more that I consider how the whole tableau played out, the more credence I give to the theory that GWB decided that with U.S. law backing him up, plus Saddam's intransigence regarding U.N. mandated no-fly zones, oil-for-food bribery, failure to account for all WMD systems and programs, etc., that taking out Saddam would be a fine way to follow up the initial successes in the Afghanistan theatre of operations, and there was one more factor: it was already personal between the Bushes and Saddam, because Saddam had his fingers all over a reported plot to assassinate GHWB on a visit to Kuwait, and I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility that GWB saw an opportunity to 'even the score', and all the parts fell into place.
The fact is, liberating Iraq produced benefits over and above the sh*t-canning of Saddam, which was Libya's abandonment of IT'S nuclear program which was further along than anyone had suspected, and Libya turned that over not to the U.N., not to the IAEA, but to the U.K. and the U.S.
If Saddam had not been overthrown, we would be facing the reality of not one, but two rogue states racing against the clock to develop a nuclear capability, because Saddam would not be about to allow Iran to gain a tactical or strategic advantage.
Unfortunately, once Saddam was in custody and ultimately hanged, there wasn't much more incentive for our current President to take out the Persian garbage stinking up the neighborhood with their daily threats of wiping out Israel, wiping out the U.S., wiping out this, that, and the other thing. As long as the oil kept moving through the Straits of Hormuz, this Administration was not about to risk any action that might have disrupted or even closed that passageway, although it opened the door to what former Ambassador John Bolton said, which was that the 'only worse alternative to taking military action against Iran, was the prospect of a nuclear capable and armed Iran' (paraphrased).
And GWB has 7 days including tomorrow to do something about Iran's nuclear threat other than run his mouth, which he has already done in abundance.
