Facing one of the most nail-biting choices since the presidential election, David Paterson, the New York governor, has been told he would be guilty of “political malpractice” if he named anyone other than Caroline Kennedy as the state’s new junior representative in the Senate.

Mr Paterson, under intense pressure from some of the country’s most powerful political dynasties as he ponders his decision, has sole discretion to appoint a replacement for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, who is moving to the state department in Barack Obama’s administration.

Hearing Caroline speak makes my brain hurt. I really wonder what she did at Harvard and Columbia Universities. Sleeping I presume

Based on the sheer fog and incoherence I’ve heard coming out of her mouth in interviews, naming her might be good for Republicans when it comes time to run someone against her in ‘10.

Steyn said maybe this is because Mass Governor is not inclined to name Teddy’s wife to the Senate if something happens to his health.

I have run into several of these people that say “you know” every other sentence. Each time I stop them and say, “no - I don't know”. It drives them nuts.

She can’t be worse than Sonny Bono.

Can she ski?

Didn’t one of her kin have a little skiing accident?

The tie that binds?

I still wouldn’t be surprised if Paterson appointed Bill Clinton; his stupendous clout with the Rats could outweigh Paterson’s concerns about loss of seniority, even if BC would only serve two years. Audacity of Hope, meet Audacity of Grope.

Caroline Kennedy, who is currently campaigning to replace Hillary Clinton as a New York senator, doesn't mind being compared to Jennifer Lopez.

Perhaps Mr. Paterson should just call a special election for the replacement for Mrs. Clinton. This action would avoid scandal and get him off the hook with other corrupt and powerful politicians and gangsters, IMO. I do not think that Caroline is more or less dumb and inarticulate than many other politicians in office. The dummies are the New Yorkers who mindlessly vote for the people that they put into office.

The Kennedy clan is at the end of its rope. The Kennedys are a perfect example that nothing of value can be bought with money.

Say what you like about either of them, Sonny and Mary Bono both got elected on their own efforts against opposition.

So, indeed, Princess Caroline would be worse than either of them, especially for such a significantly more powerful office.

Might be a fitting punishment for this Senate.
