Schumer Accuses "Hard Right" of Intimidating Minnesota Voting Officials
cnsnews.com ^ | Friday, November 14, 2008 | Josiah Ryan

(CNSNews.com) - The political “hard right” is trying to intimidate voting officials in Minnesota who are conducting a recount of the Senate race between Democratic challenger Al Franken and incumbent Republican Norm Coleman, said Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, on Thursday.

But the Coleman campaign told CNSNews.com in a statement that the Franken campaign is trying to use the recount, which is mandated by Minnesota law in such close races, to illicitly affect the outcome of the election.

By Thursday afternoon, Coleman maintained an unofficial lead of 206 votes out of 2.88 million cast in the state’s election for U.S. Senate. The race, one of three Senate contests in the nation still undecided, is important, because if Democrats win all three races they will capture a 60-seat, filibuster-proof majority in the Senate.

“The right wing has worked itself into a lather in a clear attempt to intimidate election officials from doing their job,” said Schumer at a press conference near the Capitol in Washington. “Minnesota law requires a recount, but it seems like the hard right wing of America, the hard right wing of the Republican Party, has a different idea.”

Cullen Sheehan, Coleman’s campaign manager, said in a statement that the campaign is “troubled” by dramatic and unnatural shifts that are occurring in the counting process.

“The Franken campaign is shamelessly trying to strong-arm local officials into counting invalid ballots in order to influence the outcome of the recount,” said Sheehan. “It is so troubling to us that instead of the normal slight changes in vote totals one would expect during this process, we are now seeing huge chunks of votes appearing and disappearing – statistically dubious and improbable shifts that are overwhelmingly accruing to the benefit of Al Franken.”

Sheehan is referring to the fact that Coleman’s lead, which stood at 725 votes on the morning of Nov. 5, has diminished to 206 votes, as apparently uncounted ballots from the state’s 87 counties have been added to the tally.

Schumer, however, said any suggestion that “fishy” ballots are being counted is false.

“The claims that something is fishy here are just belied by history,” Schumer told CNSNews.com. “There is nothing improbable or even unprecedented about a shift in a few hundred votes in the canvas process. The shifts that occurred this year are actually smaller than what has happened in previous years.”

If the state of Minnesota is unable to produce a definitive winner after the recount, the Senate could ultimately decide which candidate won the race – or that neither had won.

Schumer, however, told CNSNews.com that he is unwilling to discuss that possibility until the recount is over.

Schumer added that while he thinks it is still unlikely that Democrats will win 60 seats in the Senate, he thinks that the 57 they have already gained is enough to “move the country forward.”

The official statewide recount of ballots is set to begin some time next week.

When I see Schumer I see evil. The entire evil, left wing of the democrats are from hell. I am sorry to sound so harsh. There is no other explanation.

Now this could get (more) interesting...

If you want to be nice, how about socialist? If you tend to be more hard core, how about communist?

Back in the '60s, Canadian commies , without more than a dab of irony, called themselves "liberals in a hurry".

Now I more fully realize just how truthful they were!

This is critical. If there’s anything we can do at the grassroots level to stop this early voting, please let us know when and where.

I almost think we need some legal help in filing a challenge.

A similar theme can has been put forth by the left concern the ACORN voter registration fraud. From the Huffington Post:

With prospects looking bleak for the Republicans this November, pulling out the old ACORN lie -- in hopes of scaring people away from the polls, causing chaos in November by challenging voters when they show up to vote, and putting in place baseless grounds to contest close results later on (when the GOP become "sore losers") -- is just about all they have left at this point.

GOP's ACORN 'Voter Fraud' Lie Ramped Up; State Police Raid ACORN Office in Vegas

I'm seeing a pattern here. Evidently what the left is doing is to first make a mockery of our election process and then blame the right when they are questioned.

Schumer considers anyone “Hard Right” if they’re philosophically to the right of Trotsky.

If you step back and look at this, exposing the fraud must be having some impact for them to activate their propaganda defense unit.

Keep hitting them on this fraud. One problem conservatives have is that they get tired of listening to themselves so they don’t keep repeating talking points over and over again.

Keep repeating, this is fraud. Get the car votes out there, I don’t think the majority of sheeple even know that yet.

Tell GOP & Coleman to start fighting “appearing votes” BEFORE the final count so they can challenge. Maybe even postpone final count until those magic votes are legally verified. Don’t wait until the final count or it will be too late.

If the GOP can use investigations like the Dems do, I would love to see the dirt on Talky Chucky. He is one of the most arrogant of the Arrogant Party that we know. How the public can vote for these pompous asses time and time again is still a mystery.

Just heard there will be 4 judges overseeing the recount process. Anyone know anything about those judges?

I’m amazed about how liberals always accuse conservatives of intimidating their inner city voters.

Serious, how many inner city people do you know who don’t strive on confrontation?

Until this year, I at least had a perception that people voted on Election Day (first Tuesday in November) as prescribed by the US Constitution.

This election proved that we (Republican leaders unfortunately) no longer even pretend to follow the election rules which we are supposed to live by.

The most important thing we, as conservatives, can do the next two years is to demand, demand our political leaders outlaw early voting ... and make absentee voting ONLY for situations which a person cannot get physically to the polls.

If we fail to do this, we might as well open up our election process to imaginary people because that’s how easy it is becoming to vote “early” with no oversight, no proof a person is even real or capable of voting.

Instead we get platitudes (from Republican Tim Pawllenty) like these: the campaign is “troubled” by... “It is so troubling to us that instead of... statistically dubious and improbable...

I heard Republicans in Minnesota just wimping out when they should be OUT-FREAKIN'RAGED at this Democrat theft attempt.

Finding 500 votes for Al Frankin and NONE for Norm Coleman would be like flipping a coin 500 times, and having it land on 'heads' every time.

Rossi v. Gregoire: How Elections Are Stolen

handwriting analysis of 400 Washington absentee ballots reveal that they were written in the same hand .

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/tom-blumer/2007/07/29/acorn-vote-registration-fraud-wa-are-there-2004-ramifications

The list of “voters” registered in Washington state included former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, New York Times columnists Frank Rich and Tom Friedman, actress Katie Holmes and nonexistent people with nonsensical names such as Stormi Bays and Fruto Boy. The addresses used for the fake names were local homeless shelters. Given that the state doesn’t require the showing of any identification before voting, it is entirely possible people could have illegally voted using those names. (just like here)

And people wonder why Dims always oppose voter ID ?

The comparison to a turd demeans the turd in that it is dead fecal matter and is usually helpful for growing things unlike Schumer who has no useful properties. Other than that I agree completely.
