The hunt for Obama’s senior “thesis” began with a throwaway line in a newspaper article last October. The New York Times story, on Obama’s early New York years, mentioned in passing that the presidential contender had majored in political science at Columbia and had spent his time “writing his thesis on Soviet nuclear disarmament.”
Journalists began hounding Columbia University for copies of the musty document. Conservative bloggers began wondering if the young Obama had written a no-nukes screed that he might come to regret. And David Bossie, the former congressional investigator and “right-wing hit man,” as one newspaper described him, took out classified newspaper ads in Columbia University’s newspaper and the Chicago Tribune in March searching for the term paper.
Bossie came up dry, but said the effort was well worth it:
“A thesis entitled Soviet Nuclear Disarmament, written at the height of The Cold War in 1983, might shed some light upon what Barack Obama thought about our most pressing foreign policy issue for 40-plus years (U.S.-Soviet Relations),” he wrote in an e-mail to NBC News.

In 1982, New York City, Barack Obama is attending Columbia Univ. and is residing about two blocks away from Weather Underground leader William Ayers on the Upper East side of Manhattan NY.
Barack Obama will not release any information about his days at Columbia Univ, as to what organizations he belonged to, but Obama’s first known public speech takes place at an Occidental College event, sponsored by the Students for Economic Democracy (SED), which is a branch of the Campaign for Economic Democracy (CED), a group that was founded by radical, anti-American, Marxist activist Tom Hayden who was also active with the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) in the 1960's. William Ayers’ subsequent radical group, the Weather Underground, was comprised of many former SDS members; in 1969 the Weather Underground - then called simply “Weatherman” - declared “war on Amerikka.”

Political Science with a minor in International Affairs allegedly — which makes his (presumably) low gpa even harder to understand... a low gpa at the engineering shcool? that i would understand.
What is weird? I went to school during those years. I had a GF, beer, basketball, and cheap chili. I didn’t want to write a paper or protest. Does that make me weird?
I wonder if a guy named Rashid Khalidi made a big, big donation to Harvard in 1981?
Since Harvard is a private school, does that mean they don’t publish a list of big donors?
Strongest rumor is that Barack was expelled for cheating and got back in only after Ayers’ Leftist lawyers filed a civil rights suit against The One. He then was affirmative-actioned into Harvard Law over several thousand more qualified whites and Asians. His law license in IL has been “suspended.” He is the biggest liar ever to run for president. I don’t know what I want more: a McCain win or a Barack win followed by four years of his real past leaking out, destroying him by inches.

Maybe — the neighborhood he lived in (East 94th Street) is not far from what was a well known open air drug market in spanish harlem — and 81-83 was when NY started to move into the coke era... maybe he was a “reseller” to affluent white kids who didn’t want to go the hood?
Yes. But, we all like you so we don’t tell you.
Maybe someone should look into Harvard Law admissions records and find out what made him a good candidate. Not any old Tom, Dick or Jane would even be able to apply with no more than we know of Obama, in my opinion.
Might want to sniff around at Bank Street. That’s where Ayers was during this time.
Thanks for taking the time and doing the research. You did an outstanding job and I am not surprised that some potentially key information may have been expunged from the record.
I would not make too much out of the transfer to a male school. People that have a mission in life will put certain things aside to meet their goals. My take is that Obama wanted to go to an established liberal school that best met his socialization needs.

He didn’t go to Columbia University! He went to Columbia College, which was an external degree program run by Columbia University for older students, students who had gone through other colleges but didn’t have the grades to get into the Columbia U undergrad program (Obama’s problem), and students who were working and couldn’t attend classes. A certain amount of class attendance was required (I think they had seminars every now and then), but generally you got your degree without being on campus.
I know this because I looked into the program in the 80s, the same period during which Obama was attending. I had gone to CCNY prior to affirmative action, but I hadn’t graduated essentially because SDS and others turned the campus into a battleground where you were spat upon for going to class on the days they had called a “strike.” I needed to complete my degree years later, and I checked out Columbia College because it was a well-known external degree program, although one that did require some appearances at seminars and exams.
That’s why Barry has no record of outside activities. Columbia College didn’t have them.
