'Obama Working to Protect Your Gun Rights' (Friday laugh)

Obama is talking to gun owners -- and they're listening

By Ray Schoenke at October 14, 2008 - 11:00am

I was in Florida over the weekend campaigning for Obama. I'm impressed with the way the Obama campaign will not cede any vote to McCain. This is the first time any Democratic presidential campaign has so aggressively fought for gun owners. I think it's working - and it's throwing the GOP-controlled NRA for a loop.

I like this headline from the Daytona Beach News-Journal: "Obama, McCain lining up gun groups"

Obama is actually lining up gun voters, which is most important. Wherever I go, I'm finding gun owners are open to Obama. This year, we're not being duped by the NRA's aggressively pro-GOP spin. That loyalty to the Republicans hasn't gotten gun owners much. Our environment is in danger and the economy in crisis. The NRA's leaders don't look beyond their own narrow self-interests.

I'm also very glad to see more Democratic leaders speaking out on this issue. Last week, Ohio Governor Ted Strickland delivered the message in Southern Ohio:

"There is probably no governor, I would say, in the United States of America, who has a stronger, better record in the support of the Second Amendment than does Governor Ted Strickland and I'm proud of that," Strickland told a rally in Chillicothe as he warmed up the crowd ahead of a speech by Obama.

Strickland, whose battleground state is a focus of intensive campaigning by Obama and Republican John McCain, said he spoke directly to Obama about the right to bear arms in the Second Amendment.

"If you are a sportsman, if you are a gun owner, if you are someone that honors and respects the Second Amendment, you have nothing to fear from Barack Obama," the Democratic governor said at a rally in the rural southern part of his state.

Governor Strickland is absolutely right. We're making progress -- Democrats are talking to gun owners and gun owners are listening. I've been campaigning for Obama myself in Southern Ohio so I know Strickland's words carry weight with gun owners. When these gun owners understand their guns are safe, they are willing to hear what Obama has to say about the economy.

It's also good to see the NRA's leadership being called out on their hypocrisy. Yesterday, the Los Angeles Times used the NRA's own words to undermine the case the group is trying to make for McCain:

The NRA on Thursday officially endorsed John McCain, though that was merely a formality given that it had already spent $2.3 million on attack ads targeting Obama. This puts the organization in the odd position of throwing its considerable political clout behind a Republican candidate whom its official journal once called "one of the premier flag carriers for enemies of the 2nd Amendment," and against a Democrat who never tires of telling voters that he believes in the right to bear arms. So what gives? Apparently, the NRA thinks that McCain's past legislative sins against gun ownership are forgivable, while Obama's are not.

The gun lobby was furious seven years ago when the McCain-Feingold bill threatened to limit the ability of advocacy groups like the NRA to sponsor political ads; McCain also prominently backed a bill that would have required dealers at gun shows to run background checks on buyers, a smart strategy for keeping guns out of the hands of criminals that horrifies the NRA. McCain's choice of lifetime NRA member Sarah Palin as vice president, on the other hand, seems to have erased any doubts about his loyalty to the Colt-hugging crew.

There was never any doubt that the NRA would endorse their one-time enemy, John McCain. The current leaders of the NRA put their own partisan politics first. This year, however, the NRA isn't the only game in town. Gun owners are hearing from both sides. And, this year, that is making a major difference. Along those lines, I'll be back on the campaign trail this week heading to Minnesota and Michigan.

Obama is a socialist and a liar about many of his positions. He knows if he were honest he could not be elected.

So he manufactures lies beyond pale and the MSM gleefully repeat them.

Obama is using the same big lie tactics as previous socialist dictators used. And just like Pravda the MSM is fully in the bag.

1. Obama will sign the Fairness doctrine!
2. Declare a National emergency!
3. Rescind the 2nd amendment by signing into law to ban all firearms.

so again the media are just giving out more biased obama propaganda crap

Not one yard sign on display for obama, hardly any stickers infact Palin and McCain stickers out number obama about 10 to 1 right now here in north Florida

The NRA is going to having “guns a blazing” against Obama in the last few weeks. Obama knows it and that is why he is trying to put his own camo on.

All NRA members and gun owners know about Obama and will not vote for him and the NRA will remind them.

"If you are a sportsman, if you are a gun owner..."

It ain't about hunting.

When a state issued CCW is valid in all states, I might believe. When you don't need a licence in any state, I will believe.

Under zerobama, a license for speech is more likely .

From Ray Schoenke - Wikipedia

Raymond Frederick Schoenke (born September 10, 1941 in Wahiawa, Hawaii) is a gun owner, hunter, and conservationist. Former Washington Redskins football player Ray Schoenke is the founding President of the American Hunters and Shooters Association which the Brady Campaign, an anti-gun organization, considers to be 'complementary' to its own goals.

And now we learn ACORN has removed our ability to take part in a representative form of government.

That leaves us only one recourse.

What about his votes in the state senate to ban guns? This pro gun organization sounds like a big joke. If they really support the rights of gun owners then they, like tens of millions of others who are blinded with 0bama love, will have to learn the hard way when he goes against their best interests. And he will.

Here's a laugh I just got in a spam email:

St. Peter is at the Pearly Gates checking up on the people waiting to enter Heaven.

He asks the next one in line, 'So, who are you, and what did you do on Earth?' The fellow says,"I'm Barack Obama, and I was the first black to be elected President of the United States."

St. Peter says, "The U.S.? A black President? You gotta be kidding me! When did this happen? "

And Obama says, 'About twenty minutes ago.

If you google this outfit, or “Ray”, you'll learn that this is actually an anti-gun group masquerading as a pro-hunter friend. They are insidious liars, and should be exposed for what they are at every turn — an offshoot of the Brady Campaign and Handgun Control, Inc. See, if you can, where their money comes from. People who try to hide what they actually are are the lowest form of scum.

That loyalty to the Republicans hasn't gotten gun owners much. Our environment is in danger and the economy in crisis. The NRA's leaders don't look beyond their own narrow self-interests.

In other words, gun owners "need to look beyond their own self-interest" and be willing to sacrifice their gun rights to vote for a canidate that will magically "cause the ocean levels to go back down." This has nothing at all to do with Obama and Biden's positions on gun control. Obama's against the sale and ownership of handguns and Biden helped craft the language of the assault weapons ban. In fact, Biden tried to pass the AWB a couple times before Feinstein. These are just democrat "sportsmen" who only hunt because they think it brings them closer to a "pre-industrial utopia" don't believe in anyone owning any gun for any other reason.

Until then, I’m clinging.

Next issue.

Correction, their ideal is that we abandon prosperity, live in the wild, and hunt with bows and arrows at most, eat plants only at best. Hunting rifles are just a “necessary evil” - a temporary bridge in order to cull some support from dupes while working towards a complete abandonment of technology.

I am actual concerned that if he wins and has overwhelming majorities (esp. a filibuster-proof Senate), then there’s a real chance of a Reichstag Fire that will be followed by a major (and, needless to say, unconstitutional) granting of “temporary” powers to him. “Temporary” - as in for the duration of the (manufactured) crisis, or any other (manufactured) crisis that the President certifies. Remember that Hitler’s powers were also temporary - they only lasted for about 12 years.

If you are a sportsman,...”

How I DESPISE that term! FWIW, anytime I hear anyone use it, I know that they are anti-gun, and will take everything away if given the chance (or at least everything except expensive shotguns and single-shot air rifles. The whole idea of mere sport being used to justify a constitutional right is offensive.
