The Bradley County Sheriff's Office has joined the Federal Criminal Alien Program offered by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to identify incarcerated criminal aliens; ensure that such aliens are not released into the community; and remove them from the United States upon release.
Sheriff Tim Gobble and Chief Deputy Bill Dyer met recently with representatives of immigration control to finalize details of Bradley County's participation. The Criminal Alien Removal Act of 2008 focuses on identifying criminal aliens incarcerated in the county. It helps to ensure criminal aliens are not released back into the community upon release.
"This program allows the correction staff in the Bradley County jail's booking office to check the immigration status of all new inmates," Gobble said in a press release. "As a normal part of the booking process correction officers will ask all inmates a number of questions such as where they were born and if they are a United States citizen. If the officer suspects the person being booked is here illegally or their immigration status is questionable, an inquiry will begin to obtain more information about the individual. Those with questionable legal status have their names faxed to ICE for computer records checks and status verification."
If immigration control cannot verify legal status, the individual is assumed to be here illegally and immigration enforcement will issue a federal detainer and forward it to the sheriff's office to hold the individuals after their court proceedings are over or sentences are served.
Gobble said, "This is a step in the right direction, but the Federal government must get the illegal alien problem under control by securing the U.S. borders and quickly deporting all who come here illegally. The first test of citizenship is the ability to follow the law. If someone comes to this country illegally they have failed the first test of citizenship and should be deported until they can demonstrate adherence and respect for this country's rule of law.

Chief Deputy Dyer pointed out over the last several years there has been a noticeable increase in criminal offenders being brought to the jail who are unable to provide the arresting officer and the booking officer with either a driver's license, social security card or any authenticated immigration papers.
Sheriff Gobble has worked diligently for months seeking viable solutions for the increasing local illegal alien problem.
"Getting this illegal alien problem under control will promote public safety and National Security for all citizens."

My home is in Cleveland and Sheriff Gobble is doing a pretty fair job there in Bradley Co.
I work in Nashville during the week and emailed him over a year ago with the details of what the Sheriff here in Davidson Co. was doing and how successful it was. He did reply to me saying that he would look into it. Maybe I primed the pump.
Tim has been talking to Sheriff Hall lately..
I warned Tim 18 months ago that we would have a flood of illegal aliens from GA after July 1, 2007...
He and the Mayors just hohummed..

BTW Shertiff Hall went to Washington DC recently to ask for an “immigration court” in Nashville...

Time to start writing. 2-3 years ago, the illegals displaced 2 crews of carpenters. This can only get worse.
They suckup entitlement programs, strain our law enforcement, and add to the demand for food which drives up prices for us.
Their influx has placed demands on housing markets which created massive bank/mortgage meltdown..........(stupid invaders bought houses they could not afford---couldn't read a mortgage contract----didn't know what El Interest rate was).

Which means that there's hope. I think I'll write to the Sheriff tonight or tomorrow and see just where they stand. Could be that Chattanooga may be pro-illegal - I've met a number of otherwise conservative people who welcome the cheap labor.
Interesting story - a couple of weeks ago, I was at a cookout and a couple of friends were discussing installing a sprinkler system. One of them said that the other should hire the company who's workforce consists of illegals since they work much harder. Later that evening, the same guy scolded me for buying a Honda since it wasn't an American car. I asked him why he thought it was OK to have a sprinkler system installed with non-American labor, but it wasn't OK for me to buy a car built with non-American labor.
