Press Release A080918a-320
September 18, 2008
Coalition forces strike several al-Qaeda networks (Baghdad)
BAGHDAD Coalition forces captured three wanted men and detained nine additional suspected terrorists during operations to disrupt the al-Qaeda in Iraq terrorist network Wednesday and Thursday.
In Biaj Thursday, 130 km southwest of Mosul, Coalition forces captured three wanted men believed to be associated with an AQI organization facilitating the entry of foreign terrorists into Iraq.
Two separate operations Wednesday and Thursday in the vicinity of Sharqat, 90 km south of Mosul, netted three suspects believed to be AQI liaisons.
Another operation Thursday in the Sharqat area resulted in three detainees believed to have information about a terrorist who places improvised explosive devices along highways in eastern Iraq.
Four detainees were apprehended during an operation Thursday targeting AQI leaders in the Bayji area, 160 km south of Mosul.
Iraqi and Coalition operations continue to disrupt AQI networks by detaining terrorists before they can do harm to the people of Iraq, said Maj. John C. Hall, MNF-I spokesman.

Cleaned-up AP version of the story.....
WASHINGTON (AP) The State Department has confirmed that a young American woman and her Yemeni husband were killed in a terrorist attack at the U.S. Embassy in Yemen.
A spokesman says officials have verified reports from the family of Susan Elbaneh that the 18-year-old from Lackawanna, N.Y., was among the victims of Wednesday's attack. Elbaneh, who was recently wed in Yemen in an arranged marriage, was outside the embassy with her husband apparently waiting to complete paperwork, according to her brother.
The attack killed 16 people, including six militants, and was the deadliest direct assault on a U.S. Embassy in a decade. The attackers failed to breach the compound's walls, and none of those killed or wounded were U.S. diplomats or embassy.

This is the REAL story!!
The family of Susan Ali Elbaneh, a US citizen, said she was killed today in the terrorist attack in Yemen. The 19 year old Yemeni-American was killed outside the US embassy during the attack. The newlywed Elbaneh was alongside her husband of two months, a family member reported. Susan Elbaneh is a relative of Yemeni-American Jaber Elbaneh who is on the FBI's most wanted list. Yemen has refused to extradite him. There are no indications that Ms. Elbaneh's presence at the embassy was anything more than a random occurrence. She accompanied her sister in law who had an appointment with the embassy. A Yemeni American child aged three, Ms. Elbaneh's nephew, may also be among the casualties.
http://mypetjawa.mu.nu/archives/194126.php
Susan Elbaneh, 18, a U.S. citizen from Lackawanna, N.Y., who was recently wed in Yemen in an arranged marriage, was killed along with her Yemeni husband as they stood outside the embassy, family members said Wednesday. They were apparently there to do paperwork for the husband's move to the U.S. when the attackers struck, said Elbaneh's brother, Ahmed.
Susan Elbaneh was apparently related to Jaber Elbaneh, a member of the Lackawanna 6. Jaber Elbaneh is a convicted terrorist charged with planning attacks on oil installations in Yemen. He's facing US charges for training at an Al Qaida terrorist camp. He is believed to be in custody in Yemen. Her family stresses that Susan was an innocent victim of this attack in Yemen, and had no contact with Jaber.

“Real Islam a religion of peace and free will, not violence”
By Sadie Polttila
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The United States is a great nation whose foundation rests on the privilege of religious freedom. Islam is a part of that foundation and a religion of peace. What crazy people do in the name or religion, any religion, makes them crazy or uneducated - not religious. For example, all Christians aren’t akin to the Ku Klux Klan, because KKK members are definitely misinformed about Christianity.
Religion gives people moral fiber; strength to move onward and upward. It aids in making logical choices because God’s direction simply can not be illogical or wrong (from a religious perspective). Our own government isn’t free from religion. Remember “In God We Trust”?
Personally, I recommend turning off the TV to stop any “mental conditioning” or “brainwashing.””

Coalition Forces in Afghanistan Kill, Detain Militants
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Sept. 18, 2008 Coalition forces detained a suspected militant while targeting an improvised explosive device network in Afghanistans Khowst province yesterday, military officials reported.
The operation netted the targeted militant, who is known for facilitating and conducting IED attacks in Tani district. He also is believed to be in contact with Haqqani terrorist group subcommanders and facilitating the movement of militants in the province, officials said.
Elsewhere, coalition forces killed two militants and detained two suspected militants Sept. 16 during an operation in Ghazni province.
The operation targeted a known IED facilitator in Andar district who was wanted for conducting and coordinating attacks against civilians, the government of Afghanistan, NATO and coalition forces in the region. Intelligence also suggests he facilitated and financed the movement of foreign fighters into Afghanistan, officials said. The targeted militant, who was armed, and one other armed militant were killed during the operation.
Coalition forces searched the targeted compound and vehicles, finding multiple AK-47 assault rifles, three rocket-propelled grenades, a rocket launcher, multiple hand grenades, IED-making material and military-style clothing. These items were destroyed to prevent future use.

“Students in Mumbai help fight terror”
Ruhi Khan
Wednesday, September 17, 2008, (Mumbai)
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Three terror emails sent by Indian Mujahideen were traced to addresses in Mumbai, a city where unsecured wi-fi connections are now a huge threat.
With help from the police and IT experts, a students group is being formed, with a mission to make Mumbai wi-fi safe.
Young students in a south Mumbai college were taught about wireless security. (Watch)
The session came soon after a third terror email was sent from Mumbai, within minutes of last week’s Delhi blasts. The email was sent once again by hacking into an unsecured wi-fi connection.
“People are not aware of the bad side of technology. We are educating ourselves on wi-fi security as these connections can easily be misused,” said Purav Shah, a student.
“We are getting training to secure wi-fi connection. We will also teach our juniors, friends and others in the community,” said Faranaz Kolatia, another student.
Technology experts believe that while unsecure wireless network is a big threat, newer technologies will soon take over.
“After wi-fi, there is going to be wi-max, which is wi-fi on steroids. If wi-fi has a range of 500 feet, wi-max has a range of 10 km. Technology vectors keep changing with time so you have to keep learning security mechanisms,” said IT expert Vijay Mukhi.
The Sheriff of Mumbai is a partner in the exercise and also the principal of the college. She believes student mobilisation is the best way to educate masses.”

Explosives stolen from Truckee magazine
Federal and local investigators are searching for a large amount of explosives stolen from an explosives magazine in Truckee.
The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or people responsible, or for the recovery of the materials.
The explosives, taken from a location near Interstate 80, could have been stolen within the past 10 days, according to the Nevada County Sheriff's Office.
White powder in shipment from China puts local authorities on alert
The discovery of white powder in an overseas shipment at a Pulaski County manufacturing company led to an eight-hour quarantine for 18 people Wednesday.

Once they made the discovery officials called in haz-mat teams from the county and Marion, who were unable to determine the safety of the powder through local tests.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “FLORISTON (NEVADA COUNTY), CA - News10 has learned the theft of explosives from a mountainside bunker east of Truckee involved hundreds of pounds of high-yield fertilizer and blasting caps.
The remote location ten miles west of the Nevada state line offered the thieves privacy while allowing the crime to go undetected for up to a week and a half.
The thieves removed the doors from the two steel vaults by sawing through the hinges. The heavy doors still lay on the ground in front of the vaults covered with fingerprint powder.
The Nevada County Sheriff’s Department and ATF declined to discuss the type of explosives taken, saying only that they belonged to a licensed contractor who owned and stored them legally.”

The case has been hushed up by criminal investigation authorities and politicians, according to NOVA.

Thanks Cindy for the update and the re-post. Have a great week-end!
You’re welcome MD....nope, nothing in the MSM...pretty much everything is being overshadowed by the current financial news. Not that it would matter, MSM only does “clean” version of Muslim news.
Very closely aware of this story, particularly since I have been doing field work in the Truckee area this summer and will continue through this fall/winter. This is big time ELF territory, as just a few years ago ELF burned down facilities at Northstar Ski resort and other homes in the area. Fertilizer is relatively easy to come by - blasting caps are not. It is initially thought that these eco-terrorists or possible criminal elements did this, though the blasting caps make it possible that terrorists could be involved as they are a crucial component of a fertilizer bomb like the one used at the Murrah fed bldg.
