You’ve not been paying attention to Toby Keith’s recent off-the-wall statements. Don’t think you’re going to hear much of his stuff at Republican gatherings for the rest of the campaign.

Actually they played Brooks and Dunn ‘Only in America’ song which was used by Bush in 04. Unlike Van Halen Brooks and Dunn was gracious about its use.

Dude... McCain needs to stop treading on the copyright... It’s kind of embarassing...

It isn't any form of copyright infringement as long as McCain pays the appropriate royalty. Same way Rush gets by with a lot of his bumper music

actually no.

if the venue pays a flat royalty fee like most venues, the use IS paid and IS permitted.

It also depends on the licensing.

I suspect this is more about some musicians being “dixie chicked”.

I beleive you can use a small sample of the music without having to pay royalties

Fair use. A person running for political office used 15 seconds of his opponent’s campaign song in a political ad. Important factors: A small portion of the song was used and the purpose was for purposes of political debate. (Keep Thomson Governor Comm. v. Citizens for Gallen Comm., 457 F. Supp. 957 (D. N.H. 1978).)

but the fact is they bands don’t object to the music being used they oppose a rebulicans using it..

“Right now God is killing moms and dogs because he has to”

Sounds more like goofy van-babble than anything else.

Sammy Hagar would be glad to come in and sing it live, he’s been a longtime Republican supporter.

"but sources close to the band tell us, "They're not political, they're just rock and roll."

Let me invision this: The WHOLE band gathered around a big screen TV anxiously awaiting McCain's VP pick.

The song "Right Now" starts to play.

The current band members and management staff sit back and start applauding knowing the revenue that will arise from the renued interest in the song and the band due to the free national exposure will be most welcomed.

Meanwhile, at the same time at McCain Campaign Headquarters, the phone rings, with one of the McCain Campaign members answering it.

"Hello?" is the reply to the ringing phone.

The next reply is: "I ll see if I can get someone for you....one moment:....( puts hand over the mouth piece and yells)....someone from Van Halen is on the phone complaining about using the "Right Now" song.......go get one of the higher-ups that aren't in Dayton, and tell him a very angry David Lee Roth person is on the phone..."

Yep, Michael Anthony tours with Sammy and the Wabos every now and then.

Sammy put on probably the best concert I have ever seen in my life.
