McCain: Biden a 'wise selection' for Obama, and 'a good friend'
CNN ^ | 8/24/08 | Becky Sinderband

John McCain’s campaign may have used Joe Biden in a negative spot just hours after Barack Obama named the Delaware senator his running mate, but the presumptive Republican nominee had nothing but good things to say in a new interview.

"I think he's a good selection," McCain told CBS’s Katie Couric. "Joe and I have been friends for many, many years, and we know each other very well, and so I think [Obama’s] made a very wise selection.

“I know that Joe will campaign well for Senator Obama, and so I think he's going to be very formidable. Obviously, Joe and I have been on different philosophical sides, but we have been — I consider him a good friend and a good man."

Biden and McCain – who have both built solid Senate reputations on foreign policy and national security issues – have long maintained a cordial relationship, even as they tussled over policy.

Back in 2005, Biden told the Daily Show’s Jon Stewart that McCain was "a personal friend, a great friend. I would be honored to run with or against John McCain because I think the country would be better off."

I hope McCain is only applying lube and no more for what’s to come later.

OK, I’ll be the first person in the whole country to bring it up. Make sure I get credit when it finally becomes a campaign issue.

Biden has a draft dodger problem.

As they have known each other for so long, I do worry that Biden knows how to push McCain's buttons. Obama is counting on Biden to raise McCain's famous temper.

Ping me when you find a quote where McCain is praising a conservative or calling one ‘friend’.

Get real. McCain is doing this knowingly and in the context of his biting TV ads against Biden it has to be understood as a subtle way of saying "Thanks for picking Biden! What a gift!"

Read between the lines:

"I think he's a good selection,(for us, haha!)" McCain told CBS’s Katie Couric. "Joe and I have been friends for many, many years, and we know each other very well,(so I know what we're up against! Hahaha!), and so I think [Obama’s] made a very wise selection (wink wink nudge nudge)

“Love your enemies, and drive them nuts” was a laugh line used by the southern comedian of the 1960s, Brother Dave Gardner. It still works.

Exactly! McCain deserves a Nuclear Niceness award for this statement ... all he missed was saying, “Bless his heart!”

It’s only the good cop bad cop routine, if McCain had trashed Joe then the media would have attacked McCain by saying his famous temper was on display. McCain did the right thing, he also released this ad last night, hardly flattering of Obambi:

McCain can continue playing nice guy to those who would neuter him in a heartbeat, it's his style.

But he has a Golden Opportunity here if he takes advantage of it.

And, he could even keep kissing up to those who are preparing to cut off his legs.

McCain being diplomatic. I’ve always wondered why politicians consider it necessary to be diplomatic to people who would stick a knife in them in a second.

“Biden has a draft dodger problem.”

But so does former President Bill Clinton. This won’t be an issue, because the liberal media will ignore it.

Good thing I’m not a politician. Because I could never be polite, or vote for McCain, who has stabbed conservatives in the back dozens of times.

As President, I am sorry to say, he is going to disappoint you THOROUGHLY.

If not disappointed, then perhaps your position was not that of a Conservative to begin with. He will be RINO to the core, with a few concessions to Conservatives, perhaps, like giving us some minor agencies. Other than that, it is going to be one big, across the aisle, love fest with the Democrats, caving on this and that, just like he has already done as liberal Republican Senator.

I am just reading tea leaves....that is, if Jug Ears Osama does not get elected.

Senator McCain has class. People with class do not make personal attacks simply because they disagree with someone. Indeed, people with class can make friends and good relationships with people they disagree with.

DU, Moveon, Daily Kos all lack class. Hopefully, Freepers do have class.

Definition Of Hypocrisy
I believe the Democrats have suddenly developed a keen sense of morality.

John Edwards has been banned from making a speech at the Democratic National Convention for having an affair and lying about it. Instead Bill Clinton will be speaking in his place!

LOL!

McCain is the only one who’s playing it SMART. If people go overboard trashing Hair Plugs for Clowns, he’s liable to get dropped at the convention in favor of Hillary.

So people should shut up.
