A Billionaire Finances Ads Hitting Obama
NY Times ^ | August 22, 2008 | JIM RUTENBERG

WASHINGTON — The conservative group running advertisements that highlight Senator Barack Obama’s association with the 1960s radical William Ayers is being financed by a Texas billionaire who has raised money for Senator John McCain and who also helped finance the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth campaign against Senator John Kerry in 2004.

The billionaire, Harold Simmons, donated nearly $2.9 million on Aug. 12 to the American Issues Project, the group running the advertisements, papers it has filed with the Federal Election Commission show.

In 2004, Mr. Simmons donated $2 million to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, whose advertisements against Mr. Kerry included one that, with allegations since discredited, impugned his military service as a Swift boat captain during the Vietnam War

Honestly, would someone please tell me what allegations were discredited? It hacks me off to no end when the MSM writes things like this as if it were such common knowledge that it doesn't need further evidence. I can recall not one allegation that was discredited.

The only thing I know of about Flipper Kerry (that was discredited) was that he was a war hero.

If the allegations were false, it ought to be have been the simplest thing in the world for the New York Times to disclose their falsity. Instead, they try to impugn the messenger.

Yes, the DBM will go after anyone who contributes to GOP or 527s sympathetic to McCain, slander them, question their dark motives, go after their jobs, and if they are in business, go after their customers...

But at the same time Soros and the left wing slime who fund Kos, MoveOn, NARAL and all the other com-symps go unnoticed under the table and off the radar.

We have to fight back!

This is similar to the way Stalin would open up some meetings of the Politburo when he wanted someone or several people liquidated: "Comrades: as EVERYONE in this room knows, Comrade Deadmanwalkingskaya has made awful decisions and lately has dhown disloyalty to the party." All in the room would be startled since this guy was fine yesterday, but no one would protest.

The Public Editor should hear about this. We should ask him when the hard-hitting article on Soros is planned.

If the MSM/NY Times says it’s discredited, then by gosh, it’s discredited. Remember, this is the same outfit that endorsed
John McCain in the republican primary. Live by the Times, die by the Times.

Thanks NY Times for giving the McCain for free publicity.

I really think McCain has a strategy with their adverstising that we first saw with the Celeb Ad. Poke fun at Obama, or run something that just gets the media up in arms. Then trying to defend Obama, the Media is actually helping McCain.

How come the NY Slimes never acknowledge that George Soros supports Democrat moonbat entities such as Moveon, etc.? It never seems to big deal when a rich billionaire Democrat is donating money to some fringe group, but if it’s a Republican ... the NY Slimes scream ‘the horror, the horror, the horror of it all.’

A billionaire financing a political campaign? Oh, the humanity. I’m glad that those journalism majors at the NYT have - through diligence and hard work - have discovered this. Those folks are beyond stupid.

The Times is on the Obama campaign payroll.

I'm serious.

How do you think this story got pushed?

I'll tell you: The Obama campaign called the Times and asked them to do a negative story on the group that produced the Ayers ad. Because that ad has the potential to change minds against Obama permanently.

And like good waterboys, right on cue, the Times runs the story.

Keep going Issues Project. This ad needs to be run in every state.

And we want to see more of Obamanation’s lies exposed!
