Cavic didn't learn history. What he was saying has already happened in Athens. MP won 6 golds and two other medals. In Beijing, it's time to write a new history.
It won’t make any difference. It was recorded electronically. That’s kind of hard to cheat. If their guy didn’t know enough to not glide, that’s not Phelps fault.
Is it too much to ask to just have an Olympics swimming thread without results in the thread title? It would be no skin off anyone's nose to do so.
Try NOT POSTING THE RESULT IN THE HEADLINE, duh.
I asked that the Mods change the title and they did. But they put it back and put it into Breaking for some reason.
At this point, it is all over the internet and I have to go with what someone else said. If you are worried about having the results spoiled, then don’t sign on a site where breaking news is discussed. I wasn’t aware that there was a delay on the West Coast, but there aren’t any signs on the front page saying “don’t post Olympic spoilers” either. So, I searched for Phelps, didn’t see the article, and posted what by then was all over the news sites on the net. The thread title was the article title. I wasn’t aware that we were supposed to change the title of a news article. Oh well. Phelps won and most folks are happy about it.
It was simply titled Olympic Swimming spoiler or something to that effect.
After just a few minutes, the title was changed back to it's original (current) format and prominently placed in Breaking News.
Go figure.
NBC isn't running the Olympics in real time on the west coast? That's strange... the live coverage is ideal for those of you in the Pacific time zone. Most of the good 'live' stuff happens after 10pm ET. Much of the east coast is asleep, especially Sunday thru Thursday nights. :-(
The Serbian team saw the slowed down video and agreed Phelps did win. Here is the quote:
“Meanwhile, the Serbian team did file an official protest regarding the finish, but FINA slowed the video to the 10,000th of a second to make sure Phelps actually touched first. The Serbian team was able to view this footage and FINA executive director Cornel Marculescu said that the Serbian team ‘was very satisfied and they agree with the referee.’

Of course, the west coast airing would not occur for another 2 hours.
After some irate west coast FReepers were done with him/her, I don't think the originator of that post ever made an appearance on FR again.
lol!
It's the fault of those of us on the West Coast, you're riiiight. How foolish of us to expect that people would put "spoiler alert" in the headline.
By the way, I stayed away from FR until the race was over because I knew someone would wreck the surprise.
You’re right. We forced you to sign onto a breaking news website during a time where you didn’t want the breaking news of the hour. Come on, you do have some responsibility in this as well. We have apologized for “spoiling” it; however, I did ask the Mods to change the title, which they did, but inexplicably it was changed back and put into breaking after that.
Big hint, don’t sign on Sunday when he goes for #8 if it upsets you that someone in the Eastern Time Zone posts the news as it happens.
LOL! I’ll bet they were ready to whack him or her!
Well, it is what it is. Didn’t mean to spoil it, but I will accept my part in the spoiling of the “scoop”.
Did I miss it, or are they downplaying the flags?

I don’t think it’s China. More likely it’s NBC.
If the links expired in minutes, you wouldn’t be able to embed anything on websites and such... I have never heard of links expiring within minutes.
What is happening is that NBC probably has a standing (legal) order (request) to YouTube to pull all Olympic footage.
I watch his races, to see his mom’s reaction as much as to see him.
If you were smart enough to stay away so as not to spoil it for yourself, why do you think it’s the poster’s responsibility to protect others when you were obviously able to make an educated decision on the matter? And, why are you complaining about something that didn’t even happen to you?
Good advice, which I learned last night: Some jackass is going to post the result in the headline.
No, I should be able to Freep without the results for no reason being put in the thread title. It injures no one to have to click on the title to find the results. Keeping the results within the thread, instead of the thread title is common sense and courtesy, and done on other message boards (for example, on cycling boards the results of the Tour de France are never put on the thread titles.
