Another Clinton legacy that nobody ever talks about. WHen will the troops be pulled from that place? Instead of protesting the war/police action at present in Iraq the idiots at code pinky should be protesting over Kosovo.

Serbia, with little over 3 million people was bent on destroying an Empire of 50 million ?

Serbia was no victim of World War Two? So there was no Nazi occupation of Serbia, no Nazi reprisals against 100 Serbian civilians for every German lost per Nazi dictate? No massacres of Serbs by the Croatian Nazi quislings whose tactics horrified even the Germans?

Germany and Austria-Hungary were planning for war in the 19th Century. It was they who wanted war and they were going to have their war against the Serbs regardless of what the Serbs did or did not do.

But my favorite has to be Serbia trying to destroy an Empire of 50 million.

Kind of like the state of Rhode Island being intent on destroying China.

The Austrians knew EXACTLY what they were doing when Franz Ferdinand paid a visit Sarajevo on Serbia’s national holiday, June 28, 1914, which commemorated the battle of Kosovo where Christians rose up to fight and were defeated by the Moslems under whose occupation they would remain for 500 years.

The ghosts of Kosovo were present then, just as they are now.

(instigate a full-blown Civil War that takes our focus off the world at large)?

It will not start in the Middle East. It will start right here in America. The next Civil War is brewing and those outside forces are stirring the pot.

I remember some years ago talking with my Department Head - a really good officer - who said that when war starts all the bs rules go out the window. Also, I have read enough about wars and conflicts to realize that as Admiral King stated in December 1941 - when the s**t hits the fan, that's when they call for the sob's. The inept and incompetant are discarded and the cream rises to the top. And it's usually the guys - and gals - that have been passed over, that didn't play ball, that didn't ass kiss their way to the top.

I too feel that something awaits around the bend and it ain't going to be pretty. In a strange sort of way, I kind of welcome it. I'm not a he-man type and while I believe in the 2nd Amendment I do not own guns and know extremely little about them. However, I do believe that we are sort of humming along on auto-pilot and too many good people are discarded for the back-slappers and ass kissers. Something bad is going to happen and I believe it will cause massive destruction in the United States. But like I said, I kind of welcome it because it shakes things out. The majority of us will look for leadership and will quickly turn against the incompetants.

I would opine that we are already fighting it. And losing. Oh we are killing a bunch of them over thre but they are making great inroads over here. They have, for all practical purposes, taken over Europe including the United Kingdom. In the United States they are getting special accomodations just about every time they ask. In the United States their population is fast reaching the flash point at which time they will start killing and blowing things up. Our Nation can be likened to the voyage of the Titanic. The United States is the Titanic. The Captian and crew are the politicans [we no longer, in my opinion, have individuals that can be defined as leaders]. The passengers are the general population. The ice bergs are the muslims. The Captain is sailing full speed ahead into the ice berg ignoring the ice bergs public and openly stated objective to takeover the World, convert or kill [mostly kill] all infidels, and establish Sheria Law. The passengers are going merrily on their was, deliberately oblivious to their peril. In addition to that we have a currency that is in and of itself worth nothing. But that is another story.

This is good to know !

If we ever go to war with China (God help us), we know where we need to institute the draft.

How do the Rhode Islanders feel they could do against Albania at this time?

You know, sport, that’s one of my favorite movies of all time. I’ll now never be able to watch it the same way again.

I’d say that’s the best metaphorical analysis I’ve seen.

And I agree. I wish I didn’t.

“World War III is underway”.
Unfortunately, I believe you are correct.
Our major problem is that we have a huge number of disloyal Citizens and they comprise a large and dangerous “Fifth Column” right here at home.

This is a great point.

As much as I’m disappointed with how the United States has handled the whole Kosovo situation, I love this country. This is what would make it EXTREMELY difficult for those who support the Serbs and who are loyal citizens of the U.S. were a serious conflict to occur between U.S. and Serb forces in the Balkans.

The “disloyal” citizens in the U.S. too often cheer for the wrong side, but see, here in the U.S. they can do that. That’s what they ALWAYS seem to conveniently forget.

Rhode Island can’t deal with the invaders from Mexico. Two hundred thousand in a population of one million.

We’re likely to go under before any real war gets going.

"Not "vital" enough to fight a world war over, no.... Russia has no need for that oil. Europe can get the oil via different routes -- even from Russia."

What? Have you been paying attention to what's been going on? Oil going to Western Europe is precisely what this is about, not about Russian oil consumption habits. You're obviously confused.

Nope. Europe could buy Russian oil; or they could rely on the other supply routes already in place. A pipeline would be a target ... not a reason for war. The reason for Russia and Europe to go to war is still lacking.

No. The Arab tribes and their lackeys such as Iran who are trying to get general war going are having no success whatsoever. Nobody else is interested in having a general war at this time.

LenS,

You’ve got a serious case of armchair general there! The Pentagon still takes the Russian nuclear triad as an extremely potent system. Nobody in the Pentagon would ever possibly think that the Russian nuclear arsenal could be defeated. There is no magic missile defense umbrella for North America from a Russian ICBM/SLBM strike.
The Russian mobile ICBMs do have the range to target North America and again are a huge threat to the US. There is no answer to them. Those bombers that you think are a joke are only platforms for the longest range cruise missiles in the world. I take it that you are aware that the youngest Tu-95MS Bear H came off the production line in the early 1990. In comparison the youngest B-52H is from 1962!

The Tu-95MS/Tu-160s and their cruise missiles are taken extremely seriously by defense planners. Have you ever heard of MAD? In an all out conflict no side could defeat each others nuclear arsenal and both sides know it.

The prevailing thought in August 1914 was that the Austro-Hungarians would beat the Serbs “before the Autumn leaves fell”. It was widely believed that there would be no general war at that time.

There would be.
