If you commit a mortal sin before the pope said it was one, it is still a mortal sin?
5 and 6 of the big 10:
5- Thou shalt not kill.- covers alot of territory up to and including killing someone else’s spirt with gossip and malice.
6- Thou shalt not commit adultery.- covers many many sexual practices. Leviticus Chapter 18 lists many. Furthermore, when one reduces the sex act to just an act for their pleasure, they reduce their partner to, well, essentially a piece of meat. The lowest common denominator. See#5 and killing spirit.
(ps. really hoping the 10th graders get this)

So it seems that it is and has been considered a mortal sin;the article was addressing inclusions and/or additions to the existing list.
Since you submitted the original article, maybe you could clarify that fact to others who also overlooked it. I know it is not necessary but it would be a very nice and honorable gesture. BTW,the above statement can be found in the seventh paragraph from the end of the article.
