Good morning, FRiends...

Woke up to FNC reporting some minor fighting on the Israeli/Gaza border - didn’t catch the details, and looking (in vain, of course) for an article.....

Thanks, Forkinsocket, for the insights into the Lebanese Elections.... ;~)

I couldn’t find anything at JPost or Haaretz, which I thought was odd.

The Nahal Oz crossing was attacked by a bunch of people with dynamite & everything. At leat 4 Palestinians are dead so far. Not sure which group exactly did it yet. Hamas, or Fath gangs making trouble, or clans.

Here’s something that happened in the weekly riots in Nilin.

The soldier was investigated & cleared of wrongdoing.

I’m glad this nasty Jew-hating punk lost. He was on TV saying that Jews wished for the holocaust to wrangle a homeland out of it.

Nasrallah gave a speech reminding people of the huge support that Hizbullah has. Not that anyone would be so foolish as to try to disarm them. I’d be amazed. He also touched on the issue of foreign intervention but didn’t outright mention Saudi Arabia’s huge money investment in this campaign.

Also, there is a scandal now that 3Awn has stolen a lot of money that was supposed to be for FPM campaigns.

All in all, Shi3a voted for Hizbullah/Amal, Sunnis voted for Hariri, & the split was the Christian vote. More chose Hariri’s list instead of 3Awn’s list. But looking at the results, he still does have a lot of support on the mountain.

Someone just told my brother that the composition of this new parliament is very similar to the parliament that took Lebanon to civil war last time. I hope this isn’t a bad omen. I don’t like hotheads in Lebanon who seem eager to have their own civil war. Our parents’ generation is traumatized by what happened. They still cringe at screaming, sudden loud noises, & checkpoints.

Good Morning, all...

Distant rumblings over the horizon??

India to increase troops along China border
Reuters ^ | Mon Jun 8, 2009 | Reuters

GUWAHATI, India, June 8 (Reuters) - India will deploy thousands of additional troops and build airstrips along its remote northeastern border with China, in a sign of persisting wariness between the two countries despite growing business ties.

India and China fought a brief war over their 3,500 km (2,200 mile) Himalayan border in 1962, and both sides claim the other is occupying big but largely uninhabited chunks of their territory.

Although India and China have signed a treaty to maintain “peace and tranquility” along the disputed frontier and agreed to find a political solution to the row, talks have made little progress.

“Two army divisions comprising 25,000 to 30,000 soldiers each will be deployed along the border in Arunachal,” said J.J. Singh, the governor of the remote state.

Other than troops, India will add more firepower in the disputed zone with light 155mm guns, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles to strengthen its defences, officials said. They will also build airstrips close to the border.

The state shares a disputed border with China more than 1,000 km (621 miles) long.

Here is James Carter, son of Jimmy Carter. He was/is in Lebanon with the Carter Democratic group monitoring elections. He praises Hizbullah to as-Safir paper & says he wishes they had won the elections. He calls them a patriotic movement & they are not terrorists. He says they are freedom fighters. He calls on Obama to follow in his father’s steps & force Israel to withdraw from all Lebanese territory.

Good morning, all....

Having a kinda rough couple of days of aftermath from all of the treatments... (cumulative delayed effects..) ;~(

No ‘news’ to speak of out there — and ‘No News’ is definitely NOT ‘Good News’......

Good morning, Uncle Ike.

I expect you have some “challenges” right now. You are much on my mind.

I think the big news is that every loony, stupid idea ever voiced about addressing this long war is now being implemented. The principles of “community organizing” are to be tried in Afghanistan. http://www.blackfive.net/main/2009/06/a-review-of-cnas-report-triage.html

It is not going to go well.

Good morning Uncle Ike - hope you get feeling better soon (I know you will, been there, done that).

There was some news - it seems Hamas is crying over preconditions on the “peace” (pieces) talks...

Other than that, the world didn’t blow up last night.

Good morning, everyone....

‘twould appear that Ahmanutjub has chalked up a landslide re-election in ‘free-and-fair’ Iranian elections....

and

Lil Kimmie has all-but declared nuclear war on just about everybody...

but

The big, overriding all else, issue is whether Letterman should apologize.....

(sigh)

Morning, guys.

Just tv reports so far, but the situation in Iran seems to be deteriorating.

I am betting that the “security forces” will do what it takes to get it under control.

Since both Iran & the Palestinians are big news today, here’s a video of 3arafat visiting Iran in 79, after the revolution. He praises that the Palestinian revolution has come to Iran. If anyone wants a detailed translation, let me know.

I wouldn’t be surprised if either Ahmedinejad won legit or the vote was rigged. Ahmedinejad does have supporters & I am familiar with the phenomenon of urbanites being shocked at the results of elections because they had no idea how differently they voted than the rural people. & he is probably very popular with poor people. I read a couple of polls in the past that showed him winning by a lot. But when I read an article that says this: “Tabriz voted 80 per cent for Ahmadinejad. It was he who opened university courses there for the Azeri people to learn and win degrees in Azeri.” - I find it really hard to believe that Azeris would vote for Ahmedinejad over an Azeri.

Both Musavi & Ahmedinejad are Israel-haters anyway.

Abbas aide urges world shun Netanyahu over speech (Hey Abbas, your friend Obama already praised it)

World powers should isolate Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after he unveiled tough terms for a Middle East peace accord, an aide to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Monday.

In a major policy speech on Sunday, Netanyahu responded to weeks of pressure from Washington by finally giving his endorsement — with conditions — to the establishment of a demilitarised Palestinian state.

Palestinians were dismayed by his demand they first recognise Israel as a Jewish state and his failure to heed a call they and U.S. President Barack Obama have voiced to halt Jewish settlement construction in the occupied West Bank.

“The international community should confront this policy, through which Netanyahu wants to kill off any chance for peace,” Abbas adviser Yasser Abed Rabbo told Reuters.

“They must isolate and confront this policy which Netanyahu is adopting and exert pressure on him so that he adheres to international legitimacy and the road map,” he said, referring to a U.S.-sponsored 2003 peace plan.

Netanyahu pledged to keep all of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital — defying Palestinians’ claim on the city — and hedged on whether Israel would ever remove West Bank settlements.
