Wouldn’t the grapes be just as beneficial if not quite as much fun?

Not at regular levels anyhow. Welches had this same thought when the initial research came out.
Grape juice just isn't the same thing as wine.

Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio is usually manufactured for sweetness in the US and Australia. Alsatian Pinot Gris (my favorite) is usually dry.
Of course, the greatest whites of them all are DRY Riesling and Albarino, but the only SUPER wine is Barolo, which is red.

There is a slight increase in some nutrients due to more efficient extraction by alcohol. This is more than offset by the damage done to your liver by the alcohol. You are correct, you will have better health overall if you just eat the grapes, or drink the fresh juice. Zero liver damage AND you get the benefit of the insoluble fiber.

Would you drink wine made from genetically engineered grapes if it had extra benefits? Such wine could be on the menu, thanks to a grape variety six times richer than normal in resveratrol, the compound in red wine associated with increased longevity, decreased heart disease and a host of other benefits.Or, you could just take high-dose resveratrol. Good quality supplements are at www.lef.org. Do a search there on resveratrol and read the articles. Fascinating stuff. It actually causes human gene expression to change very much like calorie restriction does. Calorie restriction is, to date, the only proven way to extend lifespan in mammals.
