>> Look at the current Georgia flag. Delete the state seal. You have the 'First National' <<

Bingo. The current Georgia flag incorporates the very FIRST flag of the Confederacy. The fact that it explictly honors "Confederate hertiage" without being devisive proves the "Punt Perdue" crowd was full of crap when they claimed to be hellbent on destroying Perdue in the name of "confederate hertiage". The ONLY "confederate hertiage" acceptable to them was the good ol' days of Dixiecrat-enforced segregation. Screw the 1860 flag -- Bring back the 50s flag, the one we used to protest the negras gettin' into our schools.

I'm so glad Perdue kicked their butts and came up with a great flag and honors Georgia's hertiage and is welcomed by ALL Georgians except the segregationist scum.

That’s a great point that the “civic leaders” like the NAACP always miss. The few times I went in one of Maurice’s restaurants when I lived in Columbia, the crowd was racially mixed and so was the staff. The only people that seemed to think the flag out front was a big deal were the Jesse and Al Traveling Minstrel Show, and the professional race pimp crowd like Joe Darby, Darrell Jackson, and the local NAACP.

The food at Maurice’s wasn’t bad, although to be honest, I’m not *that* big a BBQ guy—I grew up in Virginia, where it’s not as much of a religion as it is in NC and SC. I always liked the hamburgers at Rush’s, which is a local Columbia-area fast-food chain with really good food. Or the meat-and-three at Lizard’s Thicket.

I am really trying to imagine George Washington or Thomas Jefferson with a BBQ apron on, flipping burgers in the back yard.

At the very least, they had their wives do it, but then why have servants or in Jefferson’s case, slaves?

Only repeating what I read, and do not understand why you are so upset with the concept of the black servant / slaves cooking.

“There’s a bunch of moonbats in Vermont who want to secede now.”

We should let them and ask Massachusetts to go with them it would be great for America.

I actually think that the national flags make a stronger statement than the battle flag/naval jack.

I agree that the governor outsmarted the racists at the NAACP with his move.

actually, not.

i think it's nothing more complicated than Maurice's "BBQ" isn't really BBQ. (it reminds me of "sloppy joes" soaked with mustard.)

what i think is FUNNY is that you'd need a magnifying glass to tell the CURRENT GA flag from the one designed by William Porcher Miles in 1861, which was carried in battle against the invaders by GA troops.

the "PC folks" & "chamber of commerce crowd" of "Sonny, the LIAR, Perdue" maladministration RE-invented the OLD flag.

at least in the southland, the place that LOOKS really crummy on the outside has the BEST BBQ.

look for the OLD, "beat up" pickups & pulpwood trucks in the parking lot. that is THE place to stop for "a tray" & a "cold one".

otoh, you can keep the "sweet tea". it reminds me of tea-flavored Karo syrup. (YETCH!)

Who gets bent about a palm tree?

Not many, but you add the crescent with it and several do. On my pickup I have a rear window graphic of the South Carolina state flag and a front plate with the palmetto and crescent on it also. Since 9-11 I have been accused a couple of dozen times of being a Muslim while I was traveling around the country. Most often in the Midwestern states. It also doesn't help that I have dark hair and a very dark farmer's tan.

Here is a news flash: Not everyone in the Old South had servants/slaves. My family was dirt poor, but still managed to slow cook some of the pork at hog killin’ time. Grandpa used to tell me about it...but he never mentioned where GG Grandpa must have borrowed those slaves from.
Also, we must have just been able to overcome our aversion to dirtying our hands in the last couple of generations, cause we sure don’t seem to mind now.

I hope my ancestors wouldn’t be too ashamed.

I never mentioned “the old south”, nor did I talk about the average working man. I talked about the landed gentry, like plantation owners, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson. I also did not say the whites of the 1700’s and 1800’s could not cook. I simply said that the slaves / servants were the most knowledgeable about making good pit BBQ.

You have obviously taken offense at what I said, but the fact of your outrage does not alter history.

I will leave you with one quote (from http://www.foodhistory.com/foodnotes/leftovers/african/infl/01/):

The slave trade brought approximately half a million Africans to the United States. These people arrived, stripped of their material possessions, but possessed of a distinctive cultural heritage, and various talents and skills. One outstanding characteristic was a seemingly innate ability to prepare food well. As Charles Gayarre stated in an 1880 issue of Harpers magazine, “The Negro is a born cook. He could neither read nor write, and therefore he could not learn from books. He was simply inspired; the god of the spit and the saucepan had breathed into him; that was enough.”

One more quick point, that I should have just said in the beginning, which completely destroys your argument.

Would you put someone you kept in slavery in charge of your FOOD? Lets ignore the Jesse Jackson-esque moves, eg, spitting in peoples food. Can you imagine anyone you’d want to kill more than the master? What a great opportunity to do so...man, my White ancestors tamed the oceans, this country, and a huge chunk of the planet Earth, but here I am, a 29 year old electrician, and I’m smart enough not to let the people I oppress be in CHARGE OF MY FOOD. I wonder why they were so stupid?

Ignoring all that, since I’m sure you think a black slave would never, ever have any personal motive to mess with the food, would it be smart as a powerful, influential person to let someone(the slave) who would be highly susceptible to bribes/extortion/etc, be in a position to be manipulated by any enemies I might have?

You really should think instead of just reading propaganda. The really laughable part is that you’re quoting ‘foodhistory.com.’

Since internet quotes are proof, in your eyes, I went out and found some random internet website to quote, as proof to you. Accept it!

“As of yet, there is no hard, physical evidence of alien visitation available to mainstream science or the public, otherwise this would no longer be a subject of such great controversy. And to have claims, even what you might consider highly credible claims, that it exists but that you can’t see it because the people in possession of it don’t want you to know about it, is simply not enough. What we do have though is what we will call strong indications of an alien presence, which are largely responsible for keeping this subject alive for more then 50 years. We can categorize many of these different areas of possible evidence, or rather strong indications, into the following catagories:

ROMG! They’re walking among us right now! Maybe they taught starving Africans how to be culinary powerhouses?
