they need the experts to come in and verify if the carvings are an ancient petroglyph

the boulder is a part of a row of stones of varying sizes that might have marked the shoreline 6,000 to 10,000 years ago.

The lake was lower before man arrived. Proof positive than man is causing global warming.

We don’t know where the rock was transported from, plus what if they were chasing an ancestor of Janet Reno’s?

But we don’t have elephants in North America. (do we?)

I’m guessing if they can prove that the carvings are ancient, they’re figuring it’s a mastodon.

They would also need to prove it came from North America and wasn’t shipped in from Africa.

They’re afraid someone will steal a 3,000 pound rock from the bottom of a lake under twelve feet of water?

I wouldn't say Lake Michigan drains into Lake Huron (though Lake Superior does)

The Great Lakes are more of a very large river system with Lake Superior and Michigan being the furthest inland provide water that flow through the lower or down stream Great Lakes.

What's a mastadon doing carving on underwater rocks? I didn't know they were tool users.

It takes a big fire to cook a mastodon.
