Bolton: Bush 'doesn't see sanctions can't stop Iran now'
The Jerusalem Post ^ | 6-27-07 | David Horowitz

Sanctions and diplomacy have failed and it may be too late for internal opposition to oust the Islamist regime, leaving only military intervention to stop Iran's drive to nuclear weapons, the US's former ambassador to the UN, John Bolton, told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.

Worse still, according to Ambassador Bolton, the Bush administration does not recognize the urgency of the hour and that the options are now limited to only the possibility of regime change from within or a last-resort military intervention, and it is still clinging to the dangerous and misguided belief that sanctions can be effective.

As a consequence, Bolton said he was "very worried" about the well-being of Israel. If he were in Israel's predicament, he said, "I'd be pushing the US very hard. I am pushing the US [administration] very hard, from the outside, in Washington."

In fact, recent weeks have made it all too clear that Iran envisions itself as a regional super power.

With the removal of Iraq as a credible enemy, I fear that Iran is a regional super power.

I respect Mr. Bolton.

This is sad business.

GWB could not garner enough support to invade his Texas ranch garage right now.

Seems that GWB does not / has not recognized the urgency of a few issues.

Lock and load, Israel. And may God be with you.

Our politicians have been gelded by the press and their thirst for incumbent power.

So currently the only guy I see pulling for our country, as a country, is Bolton. And he’s ignored by half the country for the sake of partisan politics or pure pacifisms.

We’re in deep deep doodoo the likes we’ve not seen before.

It’s not their power that’s as much as it is their ambitions and their support for terror that matter so much. But without a credible deterrence in the area, they are able to delude themselves into believing their power cannot be checked. If I were an Iranian, I’d be very afraid.

It makes about as much sense as nominating another State-Dept.-advising, third-world-favoring candidate, who has no usable experience for winning a world war.

Most of us figured out that sanctions wouldn’t stop Iran a long, long time ago.

I fear our President has not only lost the will to fight...he has also lost his mind.

Almost every action for the last year has been bizarre...to include inactions. He must live in a truly insular world where his advisors control his access to reality.

Sorry, but Bush has other priorities right now, specifically, taking care of the cheap labor needs of his corporate buddies. A nuclear Iran sworn to kill Americans around the world is trivial compared to our need at home to have clean toilets and well-manicured lawns.

And why can’t Bolton see that it is more important for the Bush Administration to have negogiations with Iranian mullahs than to talk to his own base which put him in office just because they oppose his amnesty plans.

Don’t you know? When it come to attacking Iran- Mr Bush is worried about what Americans will think.

I'd be afraid if I lived anywhere in the Middle East. It's like the Dark Ages over there in many ways.

I have refrained from criticizing Bush on the war, for the most part. He started out very well, in Afghanistan and Iraq, and Tommy Franks handled things brilliantly. With all the Democrat defeatist talk, he needs our support.

But he totally dropped the ball with the State Department and CIA, which had to coordinate with the military in those places. And he totally dropped the ball with the rules of engagement after the initial invasion of Iraq. And he totally dropped the ball by ignoring Syria. And he totally dropped the ball with Iran.

He didn’t create the Iranian problem, Jimmy Carter did. But he has really screwed up by waiting so long and doing nothing. The Syrian regime should have been deposed three or four years ago. Iran should have been hit before the 2006 elections.

Now, with the Shamnesty Bill, he has totally lost his base. His support is virtually nil. Iran claims to have already made a hundred pounds of activated Plutonium, and no doubt they have it well hidden. Is he planning to wait until they start setting off nukes in our cities before doing anything? Is he planning to wait until our country falls apart and hillary is elected? Does he think she is capable of dealing with Iran?

Joe, I have about given up.

My best guess is that it is time for us to hunker down. We truly are in deep carp, and yet it isn’t yet time, if you get my drift.

Considering my advanced age, it may not be enough time before I am too old and feeble to do anything but teach the younguns how to grow edibles, can, etc.

But, my heart weeps. And none of the people in DC have a clue, so the country is lost, alas.

He must live in a truly insular world where his advisors control his access to reality.

Or, just maybe, he has more access to what is actually happening regarding Iran and other NS situations then you do (or Mr. Bolton for that matter)....Nah, he's only the POTUS/CINC....That would be crazy.

Your comments sound exactly out of the playbook the DEMs/DU and MSM tried to attack this man with for years....Just drivel...

Furthermore the notion that it is perhaps our military commanders who don't want a shooting war with Iran at the current time never seems to cross anyone's mind.....This WOT will be fought at the times and places of our choosing....

I think the President knows that sanctions cannot stop Iran. He just want to wait for the opportune moment to strike the nuclear sites of the terrorist regime.
