Reid said he was taking it off the floor.

Pardon my skepticism..can the bill be reintroduced in the dark of night when no one is looking? Is this just a feint by the evil Reid? I would rather see it voted on and killed.

Just wondering if Prez Bush's tummy ache was caused by this development?

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. He takes his illegal alien friends very seriously.

Great link, Ali..thanks. Especially this: My source told me that he thinks this will kill the bill because the Senate has now voted against cloture 3 times and that means that if they want to bring it back up, they'll probably have to start from scratch and go through the regular committee process

I can hardly believe that NM Senator Domenici voted “nay” after his passionate defense of the bill on the Senate floor. I’d like to think our calls and emails swayed him, but I have to wonder if he saw which way the tide was running. He wants another term.

The Senate bill was dead on arrival before it ever got to a vote. The legalization efforts were supported by the Chamber of Commerce types looking for cheap labor, who are natural allies of the Pubbies. Under the radar the Pubbies knew this was a killer part of the bill. The guest worker provisions were opposed by democrat types, most notably the AFL-CIO. The actual first key vote in a series of amendments leading up to the final cloture vote, was an amendment by dem. Sen. Byron Dorgan to cut the number of additional guest workers in the bill by half, from 400,000 per year to 200,000. This was not enough to satisfy the AFL-CIO and they still opposed the guest worker portion of the bill. In addition, many of the AFL-CIO’s individual members, especially in the private sector, oppose the instant legalization shamnesty fiasco, thus the bill was destined to defeat from the beginning. That is the reason you saw Senators Boxer, Landrieu, Stabenow & Snowe (R-ME) for example voting against cloture, since they are heavily supported by unions in their respective States. That is also true of Senator Reid, the Majority Leader. He took some heat from unions in his own State of Nevada to make sure the bill stalled in the Senate.

If the same bill is brought up again in a revised form you can be sure the guest worker provisions will be watered down to be meaningless in practice. You can also be sure if the democrats take the White House in 2008 the bill will be brought forward again and jammed thru the Congress if possible. Even then the cowards who encamp in DC may still not have the cajones to stand up and vote such a bill up or down given the opposition to defacto amnesty from the grass roots on both sides of the political divide. This fight is not yet over by a long shot.

Now that the issue is hot and they have lost our side needs to puch back. Time to move on the border fence....now.
***I agree. Also, as part of step 2, RICO lawyers could turn it around in a few years and MAKE MONEY at the same time. I’m surprised they haven’t done it already.

In the absence of enforcement,we can get the word out in the meantime that there is money to be made in filing RICO lawsuits against employers who hire illegal aliens.

Employers would have no trouble shutting down the border if they could get sued by someone under the RICO statutes for hiring these people in the first place. The next time an illegal alien kills someone in a drunk driving accident or somesuch thing, I’m going to point out that the victim’s family might be able to seek compensation from the employer under these statutes in the hopes that it would catch on. If this did catch on, would see such a swift backlash against illegal immigration that no employer would go near these people and they’ll all simply want to go back home.

Not sure that is the case. Could be that so many amendments have been tacked on the Pete can no longer support it. Also when I was in the Legislature we often would fight hard for an amendment to try to make a bill more acceptable then vote against the measure because we just did not want it.

The other thing is that we politicians do keep track of the responses that we get from constituents. I know at the state level if we get 6-10 responses that are each different it really makes pay more close attention to that legislation. However, if we got 20-30 letters that is a form letter with only the name changed it got circular filed.

That seems to be the consensus. I think I was too busy last night rejoicing to think “what comes next”. But, today is a new day and I am thinking clearly now and yes, that lying socialist will bring it back to the floor. We need to keep our calls and letters going.

"I think ...

hmmm .. I haven't seen any clear indication of you doing that on this thread

I don’t know if this is accurate, I hope it’s a parody, but it’s pretty funny considering the conversation we had on this thread.

So only 8 Democrat senators out of 51 voted to kill this bill and socialists/Democrats get praise from conservatives.

In the items you quoted there was no praise for socialists/Democrats but rather an explanation of the reasons why some of them (and indeed some of the republicans also) would vote against cloture.

I agree. I think he thinks the NAU is best for the country. With Europe and the ME and the rest of the world practically ganging up on us, I think he thinks creating the NAU would allow us to stand against the rest of the world. Mexico’s oil and Canadas’ land mass for infrastructure. Plus we would eliminate the borders and could keep out illegals better. He thinks we can educate the Mexican people and everyone would assimilate. I think he actually thinks its best for America.
