Truman was not eligible for reelection in ‘52. Dems had to come up with Stevenson, who was considered very bright.

Truman was eligible for a second term. He finished out FDR's term, beginning in '45, ran on his own in '48, and decided not to run for a second term.

He got the United States involved in Korea as part of an UN "Police Action". After the Chinese entered the fray, and after Truman fired MacArthur (a very popular general), Truman's popularity took a nose dive and people looked to Eisenhower, a successful military man, to figure out a way to get us out of that war.

Both have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Price.

It's always about money with the Rudy supporters

Two differences

1. The Nobel Peace Prize actually meant something a 100 years ago

2. Teddy Rooseveldt actually won it (unshared)
Rudy's nomination puts him in company with Al Gore, Sheila Watt-Cloutier, and (drum roll) Adolph Hitler

In the matter of terrorism and homeland security, no other candidate rivals Giuliani’s credibility and authority.

This author's never heard of Hunter then. Former Vietnam Vet (Airborne!), member of the House Armed Services Committee for his whole career in Congress (served as Chairman from 2002-2006), has a son who served two tours in Iraq, built a double-fence across the San Diego border to curtail illegals and drug smuggling...

Yep, Rudy's obviously better than Hunter!

I keep asking and never get an answer. What has Rudy done about terrorism and homeland security? I can think of 2 things:

Bernie Karik!!! offered up his corrupt buddy to head homeland security!

Rudy put his command center in the biggest target on earth that had already been hit once.

Here was Rudy a year ago on Iraq. His only concern was the rebuild effort and whether the Iranians would help out. Yeah... he couldn’t tell the difference between Iraq and Iran. Great foreign policy expert! lol.

His recommendation of Kerik for DHS Secretary did it for me.
I followed that story closely and it quickly put Giuliani in the “unfit” for office category.

Apparently he did run in ‘52 but lost early in the primaries. I don’t remember anybody saying much about his firing of MacArthur and nobody knew what to do about Korea. Eisenhower promised only to go to Korea if he won. Truman both weeded out Communists from FedGov and was viewed as weak on Communism. He couldn’t do anything right, apparently, and his administration was viewed as corrupt. Eisenhower could have joined either the Democrat Party or the Republican Party, chose R and won the Republican nomination eventually.

A remarkably dishonest or ignorant piece.

How about just one example of how bizarre this piece is:
Taft was a contender for the GOP presidential nomination in 1940, losing to charismatic Wendell Willkie. As a U.S. senator, he was given the nickname "Mr. Republican"; he was the chief ideologue and spokesperson for the paleoconservatism of the Republican Party of that era. - Wikipedia - Robert Taft
How deep do the lies or ignorance of Rudy apologists have to be before they're rejected as mere Leftist propaganda. How can an "expert" fail to know that Taft was "Mr. Republican", not "Mr. Conservative"? The rest of this tissue of lies is just as weak.

Beyond that, the Eisenhower legacy is revered by few in the modern Republican party. But if you actually want the last Eisenhower Republican, we do have one left: Chuck Hagel, someone whose identification with Ike and policy views are notably in the Eisenhower mold. It has been written about often by those academics who actually do know something about the Eisenhower era.

Another bizarre notion here is that the term "conservative" was in wide use in Republican circles in the Fifties. That had to wait until William Buckley came along, more in the late Fifties.

OH NO!!! He's from Regent University, a Pat RobertsonTM enterprise! It just gets better and better. LOL.

I was outing a media fabrication. I thought it was an unwritten rule of FR to flag you when you catch lies in the media.

I don’t recall Ike being a RINO

Well then your memory is quite poor. The New Deal consensus between the parties largely exists because of him.

ASA Vet: I don’t recall Ike being a RINO

Bombard: In 1952 RINO’s did not exist.

Youthgonewild: Well then your memory is quite poor. The New Deal consensus between the parties largely exists because of him.

>Can Rudy replicate Ike?<

LOL! Not even with an Eisenhower jacket and beret! No way, no way! Rudy did good after 9/11, but he wasn’t overseas masterminding our European victory in WWII.

It was just a small joke. Obviously, not very successful. But not a joke at your expense in any way.

Rudy is nothing like Eisenhower. Rudy is himself and nobody else.

Quite true. I'm virtually certain that Ike would have considered the murder of an unborn baby to be just as serious as murdering a child already living, contrary to Rudy who thinks unborn children are entitled to no protections whatsoever.

And Eisenhower didn't keep himself busy behind a law clerk's desk when there was a war to be fought.
