U.S. developing contingency plan to bomb Iran: report Sat Feb 24, 2007 7:52 PM ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Despite the Bush administration's insistence it has no plans to go to war with Iran, a Pentagon panel has been created to plan a bombing attack that could be implemented within 24 hours of getting the go-ahead from President George W. Bush, The New Yorker magazine reported in its latest issue.

The special planning group was established within the office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in recent months, according to an unidentified former U.S. intelligence official cited in the article by investigative reporter Seymour Hersh in the March 4 issue.

The panel initially focused on destroying Iran's nuclear facilities and on regime change but has more recently been directed to identify targets in Iran that may be involved in supplying or aiding militants in Iraq, according to an Air Force adviser and a Pentagon consultant, who were not identified.

The consultant and a former senior intelligence official both said that U.S. military and special-operations teams had crossed the border from Iraq into Iran in pursuit of Iranian operatives, according to the article.

In response to the report, Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said: "The United States is not planning to go to war with Iran. To suggest anything to the contrary is simply wrong, misleading and mischievous.

"The United States has been very clear with respect to its concerns regarding specific Iranian government activities. The president has repeatedly stated publicly that this country is going to work with allies in the region to address those concerns through diplomatic efforts," Whitman said.

I wish the MSM would get over leaked contingency plans. If there is a possibility that it might happen, the military has a contingency plan for it. When my father-in-law was still full time active Army he worked on contingency plans for civil break down in the event of the kook prediction of the New Madrid earthquake back in the mid '90s.

I've never seen the MSM push a storyline like this one. They want it so bad they can taste it.

This smells like a disinformation campaign. I don't doubt that a plan is already in place and we'll be seeing it soon enough. (Wouldn't it be fun if the bombing of Iran pre-empted the Oscars?)

in the article by investigative reporter Seymour Hersh

Hersh's recipe is to take a couple facts then mix in a bunch of false inferences based on his 60's left-wing ideological agenda to produce a phony story.

I'd have more trust in a national security story written by Pee Wee Herman.

In other words Seymour attributed the story to the washed up has been drunk on the next stool that got his butt kicked out of the agency.

It seems that the media has decided, in order to create the chaos they love, they must start the war with their self created propaganda

You bet there is, and more than a few for Iran that have been around for decades.

.............. according to an unidentified former U.S. intelligence official cited in the article by investigative reporter Seymour Hersh.

I swear, someone is going to have to address the issue of disloyal administrative workers. Those who came into the executive arm of government, (i.e. the unidentified itelligence official) under the Clinton watch, need to know that they will sped copious years in Sing Sing if they do this $hit.

I am sick of it. Its time for an example to be made.

I mean, Scooter Libby spends years defending himself in what amounts to a lible charge and no special prosecutor has been appointed to investigate the conmtinued sedition and treason coming out of our various security agencies, including the CIA?

Puke. Wretch. Vomit.

Antidote please! This is poisoniong the Repiblic.

Seemore should Seeless, and should be behind bars until he tells us who his source is.

Of course the DoD has contingency plans to attack the nuclear facilities of Iran. Under any competent President presented with the current facts and possible outcomes from them, the DoD would have and update such a plan.

Under President Hillary Clinton, there would be a contingency plan to go to the UN one more time concerning Iran. Her plan would not change until after an American city of significant size has been destroyed by a nuclear weapon proved to have come from Iran.

Don't fear. Bush does not intend to leave office with Iran on it's way to a nuke.

While the world flails and gnashes it's tetth, Bush is well on his way to accomplishing his post 9/11 goal of seriously damaging and hamstringing the axis of evil.

"Despite the Bush administration's insistence it has no plans to go to war with Iran"

When was that?
Only this week, Vice President Dick Cheney made it clear that "all options" were on the table when it comes to stopping the evil Islamofacist vermin in Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons:

"Cheney: 'All Options' Available for Iran"

War gets viewership... standing by.. probably getting all of their graphics and music cued up. And plenty of opportunity to bash Bush..
