Gengis Khan basecamp found in China

Chinese scholars have found a series of ancient wells they believe provided water for Genghis Khan's legendary hordes during their campaign in Western Xia.

The find led them to conclude Genghis Khan did indeed march through the city of Ordos on his expedition into Western Xia.

China's Xinhua news service said Monday more than 80 wells spaced 10 meters (33 feet) apart that were apparently used by the expedition's thousands of soldiers and horses.

The wells are believed to be part of the "100 Wells" cited in the ancient classic history, "The Untold Story of Mongolia," which recounts the history of the region and its Mongol raiders from 700 to 1240.

It is probably a little late in the game to try poisoning the wells to slow down their advance........

They had a 540 year run. Is that longer than the Roman Empire?

Not really. The Roman Empire was, what, about 700 years? Then you toss in another thousand thanks to Byzantium, maybe a few hundred more if you believe the Holy Roman Empire was actually a continuance of the classical Roman Empire, and you've got probably the longest-surviving empire in human history... China excepted.

Almost forgot, there was the Roman "kingdom", then the Roman "republic", then a series of "empires" ~ then split into the Eastern and Western Empire, and various other things.

Rome changed governmental systems, capital cities, and physical locations over a long period ~ so you can count it as being a very long lived "country" or a series of successor states with a relatively common language, similar public laws, and Roman noses.

Republic Of Venice

"The Most Serene Republic of Venice (Venetian: Serenìsima Repùblica Vèneta; Italian: Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia) was a Venetian city-state originating from the city of Venice (today in Northeastern Italy). It existed from the 8th century until the 18th century (1797). It is often referred to as the Serenissima, which is Latin for its title, "Most Serene"."

"how long before its converted to a source of spring water -for Walmart?"

I bet the Chinese would go for it. More hard currency, exactly what their economy needs...
