U.N. Security Council imposes sanctions on Iran

The U.N. Security Council on Saturday unanimously imposed sanctions on Iran's trade in sensitive nuclear materials and ballistic missiles, in a move aimed at getting Tehran to halt uranium enrichment work.

and if they still refuse to halt the uranium enrichment the UN will send a nasty letter in all caps. There's no way the Chinese and Russians will go with all caps and bold text.

I like 'Ahmadangnutjob', but my favorite is: Ahm-mad-in-de-head.

Closer to the actual spelling.

Just remember; these are the steps the world said we 'never' went through with for Iraq...even though we did 16 or so times. We have to at least set the foundation for action against Iran...and if that means sanctioning them now, so be it.

Fine. Every subterranean fortress - mountain - must have an entrance. Close it, and keep it closed. They can stay down there till they run out of air. No need to blow up what's down there.

Iran's nuclear facilities/sites can be rendered useless by bombing. At the same time we should bomb their oil piplines and oil wells to completely destroy Iran's primary source of money. This would bring Iran to its economic knees, and internal regime change would eventually follow.

I read on another thread that the Russians had already watered down many parts of the resolution.

If someone has that info, please post.

However, we can most certainly believe this without any link. Putin undoubtedly consulted with his soul and sent the word to the UN to shape up.

Well we would have to locate ALL entrances. Not always to do from the air. My point is it is not as simple as lobbing a few cruise missiles.

That is correct fush hawk but only if the 17 resolutions are spread out over 11 years. Kudos on recognizing the crucial benchmark that has been set in these situations!
Merry Christmas :)

it's a slap in their face that they desperately wanted to avoid. It might just make things worse, but it is an important development.

Possibly you're correct they wished to avoid the sanctions, but I'm sure they expected them anyway and are prepared to weather the storm. They care not a bit for international scorn. In fact they revel in such sentiments. I don't think it's that important except as to how the timing affects the progress of events. They knew it was bound to happen and they tried to delay and delay but eventually even the UN is bound to get off the dime and act. Well okay...not really act so they signed the official wrist slap paperwork. Now it's up to either us or Israel to act.

That helmet, the symbol, and the color of it, tells one all they need to know about the U.N. and it's current make up.

Yes, they ordered 500 of them.
Having them isn't the same as being able to put enough of them on each target to make a difference.

Fantastic! This is exactly the kind of tough line we must take against crazed fanatics with nuclear ambitions because sanctions worked so well with Cuba, Iraq, ... oh, wait!
