I suspect we'll hear extraordinary tales of deceit from people with names like "Anonymous Source" and "Washington Insider".

It means they have begun running conservative articles in order to raise the share price so they can maximize profit when they sell the Boston Globe to Jack Welch. It's all a temporary ruse, so don't get your hopes up.

BINGO!

And the nukes were developed by Saddam's generals and assorted minions without his knowledge.

Saddam destroyed all his WMDs, dontcha know.

Let me guess... The NYT will claim that a month before the start of the Iraq war...
  1. Saddam's envoy agreed to all of Washington's demands including dismantling their nuke program, and Bush went ahead anyway and launched an unnecessary war
  2. A Q Khan revealed that all of Saddam's nuclear weapons technology was already safely under the control of the IAEA, and Bush went ahead anyway and launched an unnecessary war
  3. The Bush administration forged documents making it appear that Saddam had a WMD program even though no such program existed, and Bush went ahead anyway and launched an unnecessary war
  4. The CIA had secretly whisked all of Saddam's nuclear scientists out of Iraq, and Bush went ahead anyway and launched an unnecessary war
  5. Dick Cheney threatened the CIA director with his shotgun, and would have 'peppered' the guy if the CIA's analysts didn't fake their appraisals of Iraq's nonexistant nuclear capabilities, and Bush went ahead anyway and launched an unnecessary war
  6. A heretofore secret administration memo concluded that Saddam Hussein did not have any WMD, nor did he have any WMD programs, nor did he have any plans to make WMDs, and Bush went ahead anyway and launched an unnecessary war
  7. and so on...

Of course, another likely NYT 'story' is that they will claim that Iraq's nuclear technology, plans, and scientists, which were safely contained when Saddam was in power, have since ended up in the hands of Al Quaeda operatives (who were not in Iraq when Saddam was in power)...

Whatever it is, it will have been leaked to the NYT by a staunch Republican who is a patriotic former member of the administration (or the military, or a professional bureaucrat, or FBI agent), whose conscience would no longer permit him to do Bush's evil bidding...

The NYT would sit on this story until after the election if it made the Bush administration look good. Or the story would be on page A36.

Postulating, wild guessing.........Nukes went to Syria..slipped through Bush's fingers.

The satellite photos shown to the UN before the start of the war strongly,*strongly* suggested that something valuable was being moved *from* Iraq *to* Syria. But if the Slimes were to see evidence that this was the case they'd bury it deeper than Iran is burying their nuke facilities.

This will be Rove's November surprise.

Certain individuals at the Slimes have been told that they are in deep, deep trouble for the leaks, and they have been offered a get-out-of-jail-free card if they finally publish something accurate about Saddam's WMD programs (including the Syrian connection).

Just a wild theory.

I will be a contrarian and suggest that just maybe, before the elections, the NYT is changing it's stripes and this will be a support piece for the Bush Admin.

It will rip the dems for not being staunch defenders and supporters of the WOT.

Then, there will be a lot of phone solicitations offering discount subscriptions to the NYTs.

In fairness (gag, choke) to the Slimes, they had the NSA spying story in October 2004, and buried in until 2005 instead of publishing right before the election. End of fairness to them. They held it not to help Bush, but to give the author time to write a book to bundle along with the article. It was financial, not moral, but they did hold that story and they could have done it before the election. They also might have figured it would have given the President more votes.

This means that the attempt by Wolf Blitzer today to return to Mark Foley (interviewing Reynolds) didn't cut it.
